Chris Pacitti reposted thisElsewhere Partners invested in AppSignal to help its founding team accelerate its global expansion and bring intuitive APM solutions to ever more complex development environments. We are thrilled to welcome Brandon Swalve as CEO and partner with co-founders Roy Tomeij, Thijs Cadier, Wes Oudshoorn and the incredible team they've built. After years of following their journey and eating a metric ton of AppSignal branded stroop waffles, we are honored to join this growth story! Rod Favaron, Cody Younkin, Tommy Hayes.Chris Pacitti reposted this📈 AppSignal Closes $22 Million Growth Investment In August 2012, we set out to build a fairly priced, developer-centric APM and logging platform we’d love to use ourselves. As a bootstrapped company, we’ve always done a lot with relatively little. But to reach the next level, we need to spread the word about AppSignal and continue expanding support for more programming languages. To support that growth, we found a partner in Austin-based Elsewhere Partners, which has invested $22 million to help take AppSignal to the next level. We’ve always believed in doing things the right way: building sustainably, listening to our customers, and focusing on long-term value. This partnership allows us to stay true to those values while confidently stepping into a bigger, more ambitious future. We’re excited for what’s next, and we’re ready to deliver. https://lnkd.in/edfwEAdRAppSignal Closes $22 Million Growth Investment | AppSignal BlogAppSignal Closes $22 Million Growth Investment | AppSignal Blog

Chris Pacitti shared thisIt is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of my dear friend and long-time colleague, John Thornton. 26 years ago, John hired me as a partner at Austin Ventures. He was a brilliant investor, and we worked very closely together over many years. I would not have succeeded in the investment world without his mentorship. Nearly a decade ago, I decided to launch my own investment firm Elsewhere Partners. John joined me as co-founder and was instrumental helping launch the firm and our successful evolution since inception. John was brilliant, entertaining, entrepreneurially obsessive and most importantly incredibly well-intentioned. John’s great success in the for-profit investment world enabled him to have a major positive impact in non-profit journalism, his other obsession, as highlighted in the article below. The team and I at Elsewhere Partners will never forget the amazing contribution from John that helped us launch the firm and succeed. His deeply well-intentioned focus will also always remain a core part of our culture. John will be dearly missed, and we will never forget his incredible legacy.Chris Pacitti shared thisIt is with a heavy heart that Elsewhere Partners shares the passing of our co-founder, John Thornton. John helped build this firm with clarity, conviction, and a deep belief in doing things the right way. His legacy will inspire us all. https://lnkd.in/gEvMTVE5A tribute to John Thornton, venture capitalist and local journalism…A tribute to John Thornton, venture capitalist and local journalism…

Chris Pacitti liked thisChris Pacitti liked thisAI is moving from generating answers to taking action. That changes what we need from the data layer. An agent can reason perfectly and still make the wrong decision if it’s working with stale data. And as agents become more autonomous, those mistakes can happen at machine speed. That’s why I believe operational data becomes even more important in the AI era. As software moves from recording what people do to increasingly taking action itself, the data layer becomes part of the control plane for the business. Today we announced the biggest expansion of MongoDB’s platform yet: MongoDB 9.0, Atlas Infinite, and Atlas Agent Engine. Together, they’re designed to give agents live data, elastic scale, and the infrastructure to run reliably in production. I wrote more about why we believe the data layer has to change for the agentic era. https://lnkd.in/gQmm5gwD Thank you to the teams who made this possible. See you tomorrow at #MongoDBLocal NYC.

Chris Pacitti liked thisChris Pacitti liked thisNo company has meant more to me professionally than MongoDB. I spent more than 11 years as CEO, and even after stepping down last year, I never really left. Serving on the board kept me close to our people, our customers and the business, and only strengthened my conviction in MongoDB’s future. Today, I’m returning as interim CEO. I’m grateful for the trust of our board and our team, and I’m ready to get to work. I also return with a different perspective. As a Partner and Senior Advisor at Sequoia Capital, I have a front-row seat to the founders, technologies and companies shaping the AI era. I see firsthand how AI is not only changing how software is built and businesses operate, but expanding technology’s role from helping people manage work to increasingly helping perform the work itself. I look forward to bringing those insights back to MongoDB as we help our customers capitalize on what may be the most consequential platform shift of our generation. And we’re getting started immediately. Tomorrow at 11 AM ET, we’ll host Investor Day and share our long-term strategy, market opportunity and the product innovation driving MongoDB forward. On Wednesday, our sold-out .local NYC event will bring together developers and business leaders focused on putting AI into production and moving from generating answers to taking action at scale. We’ll have exciting announcements at both events. What has always made MongoDB special is the ambition of our people, the importance of what our customers build with our technology, and the size of the opportunity ahead. I’m proud to lead this team again. There is a lot to do, and I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work. https://lnkd.in/gGiGnbjp

Our take: With only 5% of more than 1,250 firms in a BCG study translating AI into value at scale, data-backed workflow decisions could help reduce guesswork around AI investments. What do you think? Chris Pacitti liked thisChris Pacitti liked thisMade my way up, down, and all around the many levels of IPEM in Paris last week, checking the industry’s temperature and chiming in along the way, including via a keynote on LP day and then in a great conversation with Andrew Sillitoe and Karen Tso during the main conference. You know me, I had a few things to say! Sharing some here: 📣 VC concentration is rising The top 10 VC companies relative to the VC market are approaching concentration levels that vibe with the current level of public market concentration. Depending on the level of concentration in individual portfolios, allocators are busy working through different decision trees of scenarios. 📣 Technology has long dominated private markets exposure Sector concentration levels have essentially not changed in 30 years. I went back to 1996: TMT—technology, media, and telecom (IYKYK!)—was already the largest sector, at roughly twice the size of the next-largest category, which is bang on the state of play today. What’s different is how investors build sector exposure these days, namely through more specialized managers, strategies, stages, and structures. 📣 It’s not AI vs. SaaS — in practice Few allocators are only on one side of this divide, so shouldn't the focus really be on who is accruing value, how they are creating that value, and whether or not that value is durable so it can be realized and distributed back to us? 📣 Distributions are up AND down Distribution yields continue to stay down but the absolute amount distributed has been climbing for the several years (although 2026 may break that streak), admittedly with an ever-increasing contribution from GP-led secondaries. The hard work continues for all of us – let’s check back in after fall annual meeting season! #PrivateEquity #PrivateInvestments #AlternativeInvestments #LP #IPEMGlobal2026

Chris Pacitti liked thisChris Pacitti liked thisAnother strong quarter. While market commentary often creates short-term noise, the underlying reality of our business could not be clearer: SailPoint is winning. - Total ARR reached $1.23B, up 25% year-over-year. - SaaS ARR surged 36% year-over-year to $847M, representing 97% of all net new ARR. With millions of autonomous AI agents spinning up, identity is now the undisputed control plane of the modern enterprise. Customers aren’t just adopting AI—those that adopt our AI-driven solutions are expanding their annual spend with us by over 60% to secure it. While competitors talk about future roadmaps, we are monetizing the AI era today. We believe SailPoint is the only platform tying every AI agent or agentic team to an accountable human owner and delivering a real-time kill switch to stop unwanted action in their tracks. We are delivering the platform to govern all identity types, human and non-human, with the deep context and scale required for modern security. Thank you to our team, our partners, and the thousands of customers who trust us to secure their future. We are just getting started!

Chris Pacitti reacted on thisSome exciting news: Elsewhere Partners has made a growth investment in DefensX. Work has moved into the browser, but security hasn't followed. DefensX closes that gap, securing the browser and governing AI usage for the largest yet most underserved segment of the market: SMBs and the MSPs who serve them. To read more about why we invested in DefensX, you can read my blog post below. https://lnkd.in/gZaXPqe9 It has been a pleasure getting to know Halis Osman Erkan and Andrew Morton throughout this process. We have enormous conviction in their ability to establish DefensX as a category leader, and I'm grateful to play a small part in their next chapter of growth. On a personal note, I was promoted to Senior Associate earlier this year. I held off on sharing until I had something worth celebrating alongside it. Thank you to Nick Stoffregen, Sloane Child and Chris Pacitti, who took a chance on me as an intern four years ago and whose leadership and mentorship have shaped every step since. I'm excited to continue working toward Elsewhere's mission of backing the Outliers: capital-efficient software companies, like DefensX, that have achieved a lot with a little and are poised to become market leaders.Chris Pacitti reacted on thisElsewhere Partners is excited to announce a significant growth investment in DefensX, a leading provider of browser-native security solutions that turn any browser into a zero-trust AI workspace, ensuring companies of all sizes can effectively navigate the increasingly complex threat landscape of the AI era. Always fun when a portfolio CEO turns the tables and interviews the investor. Thanks to Todd P. Michaud, CEO of HuLoop Automation, for hosting me and my partner Renee Niemi on their podcast. We invested in Huloop because they are building something increasingly important: human-in-the-loop AI for banks and retailers, the companies that power the core of our economy. In these industries, automation alone is not enough. Decisions impact customers, compliance, and real financial outcomes. The winning systems combine AI efficiency with human judgment, and that is exactly the category Huloop is helping define. In the conversation we discussed: • what investors are really looking for in AI companies today • why product execution matters more than AI hype • how human-in-the-loop systems will shape enterprise operations Full discussion linked in comment. Thank you Todd for the thoughtful questions and for building such an important company. Proud to be part of the journey. #ai #entrepreneurs #podcast

Can fundraising teams detect a stalled process before silence becomes the strategy? The forwardable lesson is that long sales cycles need an early-warning layer, not simply more activity at the top of the funnel. The system is designed to recommend action, not merely record that progress slowed. The Long Cycle RAISE combines mandate scoring, allocation signals, trigger detection and pipeline intelligence to surface issues earlier. The Warning Layer The workflow can track investor stage, relationship activity, soft commitments, hard commitments and risks around the target process. The Waiting Problem The company is addressing a process that managers already understand and repeatedly need to solve. RAISE is raising capital and looking for investors. See company website https://raiseplatform.eu and then DM me for more info. Is faster feedback more valuable than faster outreach in institutional fundraising?

Most acquisitions don't die at close. They die 6 months later - when the cash runs out. Buyers spend months obsessing over purchase price and SBA terms, then get blindsided by something far more mundane: not having enough working capital to actually run the business they just bought. Daniel Duran and I recorded a webinar breaking down exactly how to avoid this: → The 5 ways to fund working capital at close (searcher equity, investor equity, seller working capital, permanent bank working capital, and lines of credit) → How to actually estimate what your business will need in year one → The financial model we use with Acquisition Lab members - walked through live → The most common misses first-time buyers make when sizing this number → How to spot an under-capitalized deal before you sign If you're searching, under LOI, or just closed - this is 30 minutes that could save your deal. This is exactly the kind of underwriting rigor we bring to every deal we back - if you're building a search and want that support from day one, come talk to us at Acquisition Lab. 🎥 Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/ecnghdUq #ETA #SearchFunds #SmallBusinessAcquisition #SBA #AcquisitionEntrepreneurship #AcquisitionLab

Most family office principals don’t set out to become the operators of a complex institutional structure. Yet that's often what the role demands. Staffing, governance, vendor oversight, cost management—it compounds quickly. Understanding how to balance what stays in-house with what gets outsourced is foundational work, not a detail to revisit later. This article offers a look at how experienced principals are approaching that question: https://lnkd.in/eXjqWrRe
