Dalton Brough shared thisEarlier this summer John shared publicly a goal we had set internally: hire 10 people in 30 days. Recruiting goals have always been nuanced for me. 1) I desperately want to hit my number, however... 2) it's essential that I protect the quality of who we hire at Leland. Easy to say, but much harder to do when number 2 often gets in the way of number 1. To further the complexity of the challenge, four of these roles were key leadership-level roles. Traditionally these roles require a far lengthier time to fill. Now, did we get all 10 roles filled in exactly 30 days? We did not. But we did move significantly faster than one would expect given the scope of these roles. Not only did we maintain our level of quality at the company, we elevated it meaningfully. I've never been more bullish on the outlook of Leland than I am today, and it has everything to do with the caliber of people we've hired. With that in mind, I'm so thrilled to welcome Tyler, Dave, Chandler, and Brandon to the team. Every one of them is a founder. Every one of them has achieved remarkable success in their career. Every one of them is out-of-this-world ambitious, just like our customers. Every one of them is mission-oriented. It has been a fun and challenging summer. I'm confident it's going to be a lot more fun and a lot busier moving forward. 🚀

Dalton Brough shared thisI'm #hiring a Recruiting Intern at Leland to support our hiring needs during a period of active growth. The ideal candidate has experience in recruiting, sales, or some other customer-facing role, preferably in a startup environment. But don't let those preferences stop you from applying! If you are ambitious, hard-working, and an exceptional communicator I am interested in considering you. I've been fortunate to manage several outstanding interns over the last few years. Ella is now working full-time at Leland, making massive impact in Ops owning Expert Success. Hannah landed an amazing job at Podium in People Ops and Recruiting. Madison is now crushing it in sales at Gray Falkon and started a business. And Abbi went on to high-growth recruiting roles at both NexHealth and Awardco. Onsite in Lehi, UT. Dalton Brough shared thisIntroducing my latest AI build: Leland's new Careers website! I've wanted to redesign the Careers website at every company I've ever worked, but in a world of ruthless prioritization and finite design and engineering resources I never dedicated the time to make it happen... until now! Instead of our applicants looking at a soulless ATS job board, now they can learn about our mission, values, and team as they consider whether or not to apply. I prototyped the entire thing using Claude Code in about 30 minutes with another 30 minutes spent refining copy. But what really expedited the process was work that other Leland team members had done to set me up for success: John keeps a live "Vision to Values" page for the company that outlines what we're building and why we're building it, along with our core values. I uploaded this to Claude during the planning phase of the project and that's where the majority of the copy came from. During our recent AI Sprint Week, Michael created a shared skill in our company's Claude instance called /leonardo which allows you to apply Leland's brand guidelines to any website, deck, or asset you're creating. I asked Claude to use /leonardo for the website and what you see is largely the output. In that same week Jake created another shared skill called /leland-page-builder that packages the webpage in the right format so it can be seamlessly added to the codebase. We're working on making this even more self-serve for non-technical people like me, but even being able to get to this point was magical. I'd love for you to check it out - careers.joinleland.com And while you're there, be sure to check out all of our Open Roles! :) #hiring #AI #recruiting

Dalton Brough shared thisToday Zapier published their AI Fluency Rubric, detailing how they evaluate candidates and employees on their proficiency with AI. 1. 𝗨𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲: "This is the extent of how I work with AI." 2. 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲: "I use AI to operate at a meaningfully higher level." 3. 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: "I orchestrate AI / build systems that elevate how I work." 4. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: "I re-engineer how work happens." Right now, I think I'm squarely in the "Capable" tier and working towards becoming "Adoptive" by the end of this year. AI has enabled me to operate as a 1-person People Team for the last few years of my career. I've created some simple automations that help me day-to-day, but I can't say that I've truly built systems or teams of agents that are saving me a meaningful amount of time. If you were tested on your #AI capabilities today where do you think you'd land?

Dalton Brough shared thisIf you're like me, you've probably felt a bit of insecurity around how much more you could be doing to embrace AI in your career. You hear stories of how brilliant people around you are using it but you don't know where to start, or how to apply it to your role. Maybe you're even a bit fearful that if you don't embrace it soon, you could get left behind by those who do. Fortunately, Leland is here to help. Yesterday we launched our AI Builder Program for people just like you and me. The course is 5 distinct levels, designed to help you go from Novice to Expert in a matter of months. To celebrate the launch I've been given a handful of significant discount codes for Level 1 or 2. Comment or DM if you're interested - I want to help you! https://ai.joinleland.com/

Dalton Brough shared thisIn the last month we have hired two incredible candidates who were referred for jobs at Leland. The best part? They were referred by people who interviewed *for the same position* but were eventually declined. I'm not sure if there's a stronger endorsement of our candidate experience and company culture than to have people who went through our process, were told no, and they still recommend their friends to work here. I'm actively hiring a GM of Bootcamps, a Head of Social Growth, and 6️⃣ interns! If you or somebody you know would be a great fit, please send them my way. #hiring #recruiting #internships #Leland

Dalton Brough shared this"What keeps you at Leland?" A candidate asked me this on an interview today. It's a question I commonly get on interviews. It comes down to two things for me: 1. I believe the world is a better place because Leland exists. The impact our platform makes on real people is tangible, and the stories are inspiring. 2. The caliber of each person on our team. I have never felt like the smartest person in the room while working at Leland, and being around these people has inspired me to work smarter, produce faster, and exert more effort than I ever have before. I'm growing at a faster rate than I ever have before. Why do you stay at your company? What other factors do you consider? P.S. If you're not interested in staying at your company, we're hiring for numerous roles across Growth, Sales, and Engineering 👀 📸: Our team at Stanford University in February, where Leland was born in 2021 #retention #hiring #recruiting

Dalton Brough reacted on thisDalton Brough reacted on thisAfter nearly ~4 years, today is my last day at Clozd! I am so grateful for this chapter of my career - I feel like I've grown so much personally, made lifelong friendships, and helped some incredible companies win more. Spencer Dent & Andrew Peterson - you two are special. You mentored me, let me tackle new problems that I for sure wasn't qualified to take on, and believed in me way more than I believed in myself. You made me, Mary, and my kids feel at home -- it means a lot to me that you know their names, care about them, and that they can run around the Clozd office causing chaos w/o feeling like strangers. Thanks for taking the risk starting Clozd and creating a place that can have an impact on people's careers and families. I will forever be grateful to the two of you! Dallin Hayne & Jonathan Johnson - working with best friends is an absolute dream that so few people get to experience in their career. I knew you were great men from our friendship outside of work, but getting to see you in a different context was really cool. Matt Kessler, John Burton, Dani Talbot, Noelia Augustyn, Sam Woodbury, Silas Gallagher, CPA, Jim Galon, and Jody Farnsworth -- was a great experience getting to work so closely with you. You are thoughtful, intentional leaders and I'm so grateful I got to learn from your example! Scott Varner, Spencer Monson, Jeffrey Ouzts, Riley Thacker, Tanner Monson, Sam McLeod, Anthony Anderson, M.B.A., Kristin Pilkington, Dani Mortimer and so many other Program Managers, Account Managers, & AC's that I've had the chance to work with - what an incredible group! You all embody the culture I love so much about Clozd - intelligent, hardworking people who have no ego and look outward before they look inward. Thank you for putting up with the late night slacks and terrible photoshop for these last few years. I don't think you'll miss my slide edits, but I will miss you! The amount of Clozd swag and pictures I have is too much for one post, but a few fun images here haha. I promise I did work and didn't just go on trips, but pictures of me Wispr-flowing into Claude at my desk are much less fun to look at. As for what's next - I'm excited to announce that I'll be joining Enzo Health next week as Chief Customer Officer! Zach Newman and Dan Conger are building something really special, and I'm grateful to be a part of that journey. The need for quality care for the elderly is only growing, and I can't wait to help build solutions that allow home health agencies to focus more time on people and less time on the boring stuff.

Dalton Brough reacted on thisDalton Brough reacted on thisThe ASU+GSV Summit team just put almost 40 people through the AI Builder Program. Partnerships, marketing and programs teams. All building together. Before, most of the team used AI for simple productivity stuff. Now they're building real systems. A few highlights: Lucy Baldwin (VP, Product) built a meeting prep system her team triggers from Slack. It researches every attendee, writes the prep doc and sends the calendar invite. ~8 hours a week of prep automated in busy season. Uma Sankar Reddy, a civil engineer by training, built a daily Slack digest that pulls to-dos from Slack, Airtable, Granola and email. It freed up 50% of Umas time, enough to take on a second role. Genny Velazquez (SVP, Global Partnerships) built a proposal generator that writes in her voice. Proposals went from 2 hours to 30 minutes. Thats 7.5 hours back every week. Lucy said it best: "It put everyone in a builder mindset." Thats the whole point of the AI Builder Program. Its not a learning experience, its a building experience. Shout out to Lucy, Uma, Genny and the whole ASU+GSV team. If you want to help your team get set up for this next chapter of AI, shoot me a DM and let's chat.

Dalton Brough liked thisDalton Brough liked thisPlease help me solve my top AI problems: 1. Work and personal accounts. Like most companies, we require employees to use company AI accounts for company tasks (buildings software, data analysis, etc.). Likewise, most employees don't want their work accounts to have access to their personal life (health data, personal finances, etc.) But the best use of AI (especially with new tools like Muse, Instinct, Dots) is to use one account for everything, both work and personal. "Hey Instinct, schedule my dentist appointment for 8AM and move my stand up meeting at work back a half hour." Plus even for daily driver tools like CoWork/Codex, it's a terrible experience to have multiple accounts. It works fine on a laptop with multiple chrome browsers, but which account should I be logged in on my phone where I do a lot of work? Do you just do the thing where your Claude app is logged into work and your ChatGPT app is logged into personal? How do you solve this? 2. Co-mingling accounts with a spouse. My wife uses AI for so everything these day. And so do I. We really want to be able to work together. Build shared dashboards together. Chime in on each others' conversations. Are there any solutions for this outside of building some custom app? Is this possible within the OpenAI / Anthropic ecosystem? 3. Choosing a primary tool. I'm currently using all the tools. But it's getting to the point where I want to really want to invest in one primary tool. The more personalized these tools become the more context seems to matter. Each of my accounts currently have a very different view of who I am. Instinct and Muse are huge. OpenAI just came out with Dots. I'm sure Claude will fast follow. It seems like each of those tools will be most effective if I heavily invest. OpenAI keeps asking me to connect my financial accounts and my health data, etc, but I use Claude/CoWork for most of my daily tasks, esp. multi-step or analytical tasks (although I still do a lot of deep research in ChatGPT). It seems like it would be most effective if I just pick one ecosystem and do *everything* there. It would be more powerful. Health, finances, investing, calendar, plans, research, kids, food, personal questions, etc. I want something to run all of my life. Is this premature? Am I overvaluing context? Should I just keep using all the tools for the things they are good at? Or should I pick one? And if so, which one? How do you decide? Every month they leapfrog each other. All 3 of these questions are related. If there are no good answers, then someone please build the solution.

I’ve had the best time getting to know the team, diving into the product, and contributing to work I’m really excited about. I’m looking forward to this next chapter and continuing to grow! A huge thank you to Sam Woodbury, Matthew Conover, and Andrew Peterson for this opportunity and for welcoming me to the team. 💙

It was a solid grocery store opening up within a 10 min walk of my neighborhood. Also helps that it has a great restaurant inside. Kids getting restless? Let’s walk over to get some good produce! Need a fun activity? We’re walking to go get some ice cream! No more getting in the car to go get the milk I forgot! I appreciate you Rancho Markets!🙏🏽

Dalton Brough reacted on thisDalton Brough reacted on thisI'm hiring three people for our marketing team at Leland! But first, a quick update on my first few weeks. The pace here is fierce. In a single afternoon I can go from a consumer marketplace running at scale to a young, fast-moving B2B business that's keeping a lot of us up at night (in a good way). This first month has been a blur of customer interviews and onsites, deep dives on channels like influencer marketing, and groundwork for some big new business lines on the way. All of it points at the same goal: building the home for ambition in the age of AI. The momentum is showing up everywhere. Our B2B business has been hockey-sticking as we close out September, and Leland demo day last Friday was wild. Our products are leveling up faster than at any point in the company's history, and we now ship in days/weeks what used to take quarters. That's what happens when a team builds with AI, has ambition in every corner and buys into the mission. I'm grateful to be here for this stretch, and even more excited about who gets to join us. Here's who I'm looking for: ✍ Content & Creative Lead. Help us build the system that puts Leland in every feed, on every stage and in every room where people decide what's next. You'll shape our voice, brand and creative, and go deep on SEO/AEO, research-driven content and Leland's point of view in the market. And you won't start from zero: we're sitting on a goldmine of world-class expert content, livestreams and customer proof that's ready to be packaged up and shared. 📱 Social Media Manager, AI & Automation. Yes, the long title is on purpose. Great taste gets you halfway. The other half is building the machine that clips, captions and schedules at a volume no normal team could touch. You've got a bit of a hack-the-algorithm streak, and you're a real systems thinker. It's not your typical social role, and it's a launchpad into plenty of other roles in marketing and beyond. 📊 Performance Marketing Manager. You'll scale paid for a consumer business that already works and help lay the foundation for B2B paid as it takes off. It's rare to get that kind of range in one role, and it's a big chance to shape how Leland grows. Postings are in the comments. Tell me who I should be talking to...if you refer someone we hire, golf and a nice lunch are on me :)

Dalton Brough liked thisDalton Brough liked thisOur team just pulled a ton of data on what the top AI companies are paying ENTRY-LEVEL software engineering talent. It's pretty crazy. There were rumors that Dario was asking employees if they would still work there if their stock went to zero in order to prioritize AI safety over commercial ambitions. But entry-level starting salaries and equity packages may not suggest that talent is joining Anthropic for the "mission" only. A few other observations: - Back in the day, it was known that Stripe was the highest paying job for new grads, but the data suggests that they are now in 10th place! - Only 3 of these companies have base salaries above $200k. Equity (and upside with the equity) is still a large part of the package. - Software engineering is known as the job that has been most affected by AI, yet the demand for top talent within that domain has never been more important. I think it's becoming clear that AI is going to make the very best in every role 100x more valuable. Anything else stand out?

The Hidden Risk in “We’ll Hire HR Later” I hear this often: “We’ll bring in HR once we’re bigger.” Here’s what typically happens instead: • Informal policies become precedent • Compensation inconsistencies build resentment • Performance standards become subjective • Compliance risk increases • Turnover quietly rises By the time HR is hired, the damage is cultural. A proactive people strategy is cheaper than reactive repair.

Hello Linkedin, It's been some time since I posted anything. Been busy changing careers. If you are a recruiter in Colorado Springs, I'd like to share something with you. I met a woman over the weekend who is in a domestic violence relationship. A friend recently offered her a job, and the friend did something inappropriate and wanted the woman to cover for him, but the woman is ethical and didn't cover for him. Now the office at work has become toxic. She needs a job. She has a strong administrative background.

Waiting for your annual bonus to pay out before you start interviewing...DON'T! While waiting feels like the "safe" financial move, it’s often a strategic mistake that costs you the perfect role. In a fast-moving market, timing is everything. Here are five reasons why you shouldn't delay applying or responding to outreaches: 1. Other people will be applying to the roles you are looking at or being contacted for. The company may even hire someone in that time. - Recruiters often focus heavily on the first 10–20 qualified applicants. If they find three great candidates in the first 48 hours, they may move straight to interviews and stop reviewing the rest of the pile. 2. The company you're looking to join may unpost the role or stop speaking with candidates due to the number of applications received. - If a role receives a high volume of quality applications, the company may "unpost" the job or pause outreach to manage the load. If you apply early, you become the gold standard that every other candidate is measured against. 3. One of the best times to apply is when you don't need the job. - When you apply while employed, you have the "power to walk-away." If you wait until your current situation becomes unbearable or a layoff occurs, that psychological edge disappears. 4. You can ask for a later start date. - Between the initial screen, multiple interview rounds, and the background check, it could take 6–10 weeks to get to a start date. Most companies are willing to wait for a great hire. If you’re honest about your timeline, you can often coordinate a start date that allows you to collect your bonus, give your two weeks' notice, and start fresh. 5. The "Make-Whole" Sign-On Bonus - As a seasoned recruiter, I have seen this play out and been part of numerous hiring decisions to offer a sign on for what you would be leaving behind. If you are the right fit, an organization can use a sign-on bonus to ensure you don’t lose out financially by joining them sooner. They want you focused on the new role, not regretting the lost bonus. If you’re looking for a new challenge, a better culture, or an escape from a toxic boss, don't wait. It is an extremely competitive market, and delaying your application by even a week can put you at a massive disadvantage. Reach out and connect with any questions. #hiring #jobopportunity #newyear #recruiter #jobadvice #careeradvice #tips

What should TA leaders actually be measuring right now? 👀 Here's what I think is still worth tracking: 1. Time to hire (it's your commitment to the candidate) 2. Time to fill (it's your commitment to the business) I know a lot of TA leaders have deprioritized these, but I think they're even more useful now than ever. And quality of hire? I've always thought it's the most important metric we have. The honest truth is there's no universal definition (and that's not a flaw!) The best teams are building what it means for them. We also got into DEI, and why I refuse to believe the underlying business case has changed. Finding the gems wherever they may be, regardless of background, regardless of pedigree, ensuring everyone has access to opportunities... that drives better outcomes for everyone. We also talked about scrapping cover letters, rethinking resumes, and whether traditional applications serve any purpose at all anymore. I love getting to do this with Chris Abbass and Benjamin Sesser 🧡 ——— Catch the full episode here: YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gfCqTge9 Spotify: https://lnkd.in/gV5k2abz Apple: https://lnkd.in/gDA_paZq

HR in Motion: Between Shutdowns & Scaling There’s a lot shifting beneath the surface right now. One major player hits pause on operations. Another ramps up to meet demand. It’s not just headlines, it’s a real-time reminder that business cycles are getting tighter, faster, and harder to predict. 📉 What Happens When Operations Shutdown or Slow? When a business temporarily halts operations due to pricing or demand pressures, it’s more than just a numbers play. HR should be asking: What parts of the workforce model still make sense for the future? Which skills are worth retaining, even during a pause? How do we protect institutional knowledge and rebuild faster if we pivot? 📈 What About When Scaling Picks Up Suddenly? Surging demand creates a different type of pressure: 💡 Are we matching workforce growth to real market sizing? 💡 Is pricing stable enough to sustain supply and headcount? Do we need to need to increase? 💡 If so, can we onboard and retain fast enough without burning out culture? And it’s not just about hiring. It’s about creating flexible, ready-now capacity that won’t collapse if conditions shift again. 🔁 What if the Strategy Changes Midway? A company may restart operations, enter a new sector/sub-sector, or revise its pricing model. Here’s where HR gets strategic: 📌 Mirror the new business model with the right roles, structures, and pay. 📌 Upskill early, even before the pivot is finalized. 📌 Avoid reactivity — build in talent readiness as part of the plan. ✨ Final Thought Whether the business is scaling up, pivoting, or temporarily winding down… HR can’t be downstream from strategy. We have to align to demand curves, pricing power, and market shifts, not react to them. Because when you connect people strategy to market momentum, you don’t just catch up ➡️ you start to set the pace.

ATTN recruiters, talent acquisition leaders, and CHROs: This year's recruiting conferences are just kicking off. And I know you've likely solidified your speaker and session topics. But if you don't address this stark, dissenting and brazen clash between candidates and recruiters, then 'silence is violence' as they say (as it pertains to today's recession-like hiring climate). And please don't regurgitate "it's AI." That was last year. I'm talking about the actual boxing-gloves-battle between candidates not wanting to apply, or over-applying; companies not wanting to review; ghosting; recruiter scams; and most of all, WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT IT?? NOT what caused it. Sure, call it "recruiting is broken" for the millionth time. But how about tangible, actionable solutions? My initial thoughts, perhaps daydreams: - Both sides take ownership. - Realize this is a trust problem as much as a funnel problem. - Normalize fewer/better conversations (and somehow put some guardrails and/or public statements around it). - Publish realistic timelines on job postings; publish the actual recruiting process. - Employers start to monitor for fraudulent activity. - With incremental improvements and faith in the process, candidates can perhaps shift from "apply & hope" to "signal and context." Maybe recruiters can triage faster/better after this... Volume has clearly replaced judgment. Now, the theme for 2026: "HOW do we fix this?" #recruiting #recruiterlife #jobsearch

The Best Hire Is the One You Don’t Need to Make. Every new hire costs time, money, onboarding, ramp-up…and fingers crossed they don’t churn. Meanwhile, sourcing internal talent costs a fraction, it performs faster and will stay longer. It’s a no brainer… And the secret ingredient? Talent Anlaytics: knowing with confidence who can move where - supported by behavioural insights and predictive insights courtesy of Cognisess. When you know how to maximise the talent you already have, hiring becomes an exception… not your sole response. Most of the conversation I see around HR, recruiting, and screening AI is still centered on capability. Platforms boasting about new features. Someone claiming they’ve “solved” candidate screening and telling you to DM them “Claude” for the prompt. What I hear a lot less about is accountability. As these tools start influencing more of the hiring process, where are the checks and balances? Where does human verification come in? How is the logic calibrated, tested, and held to a consistent standard so the same candidate isn’t getting a meaningfully different score or decision every time the system runs? Listen, I get it. Accountability isn’t as trendy as a new feature announcement. But I think we’re getting pretty close to a point where there’s going to be a lot less tolerance for the grey areas around how these systems actually make decisions.
