Danny Saltzman posted thisI've spent 20+ years in wine and spirits. Distributor side, supplier side, and now advising and investing in brands. I don't remember a year with this many field cuts. Suppliers, distributors, everybody. I get it. But the shelf didn't get the memo. Someone still has to know if your product actually made it into the store, what it's ringing at, and whether the display you paid for ever went up. Ask most brands and the honest answer is they don't know. They have a depletion report and a good feeling. A friend introduced me to Jordan Karcher, and what he's built at Eileen Inc. is something this industry has needed for twenty years. Thousands of everyday shoppers, in every kind of store, in every state. You ask a question about your product in the real world, and a few days later you have the photos to answer it. No contract, no minimum, less than lunch per store. It's the first time I've seen a brand get ground truth without a field team. I've sent a few brands their way. Every one of them found something. SKUs missing in a chain they thought was locked in. Pricing two bucks off. Displays that never happened. Eyes in the store without the overhead. Turn it on for a launch, turn it off when you're done. If you're curious what your shelf actually looks like right now, comment "shelf" or send me a DM and I'll get you set up with 10 stores on the house.

Danny Saltzman posted thisSERVER DOWN Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. Sleepless nights. Long hours. Texts unanswered. Calls not returned. Emails sitting in inboxes. Is the server down, or are you simply early? When you’re building something you believe in, you become obsessed. Relentless. Laser-focused. You test. You learn. You adjust. You keep moving. The clock is ticking. Tick. Tick. Tick. Every entrepreneur needs a little delusional confidence, the ability to see what others can’t see yet. As I always say: Don’t take it personal. Through July 6th, Le Portier is donating a portion of eligible online bottle sales to America’s Gold Star Families, helping support their mission while encouraging consumers to learn more about the organization and the families it serves. Danny Saltzman reposted thisDanny Saltzman reposted thistoday i'm proud to announce that Tolly is officially live on the App Store. Tolly is a digestive health companion app that allows people living with Crohn's disease, Colitis, IBS, and food sensitivities to scan barcodes and ingredient labels to instantly identify whether a food is safe for their specific triggers. the idea came from personal experience. i was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in August 2025 and found that there was no simple, accessible tool to help navigate everyday food decisions. i built Tolly to change that. some highlights from the build: — launched as a first-time founder while studying full-time at the University of Tampa — bootstrapped with a $500 budget — secured early investment and influencer partnerships pre-launch — built a waitlist of early adopters before the app went live this is just the beginning. if you or someone you know lives with a digestive condition, i'd love for you to check it out. download Tolly on the App Store: meettolly.com #HealthTech #AppLaunch #Founders #Crohns #IBD #BuildInPublic

Danny Saltzman shared thisIncredible entrepreneur Ryan Scheinman super excited to get involved with a wonderful cause. Please feel free to reach out for more information and get signed up on the waiting list!!Danny Saltzman shared thisI got diagnosed with Crohn's Disease back in August. It changed everything. The way I eat, the way I think about food, the way I walk into a grocery store. Every label is just a straight guessing game. And you're just supposed to figure it out on your own. 1.6 million people in the US have Crohn's or Colitis. Not counting the millions more living with IBS. And most of them are doing the same thing i was doing, googling ingredients, hoping they don't wake up in pain or upset their stomachs. I got tired of just dealing with it. So i started building something. Tolly is a digestive health app for people with IBD, IBS, and food sensitivities. Scan a barcode or snap a photo of an ingredient label and know instantly if it's safe for your gut, based on your triggers, not generic advice. I'm not a doctor. I'm just someone who got a diagnosis and decided to do something about it. For myself and for everyone else who's been quietly struggling with this. If this is you or someone you know, come join the waitlist. meettolly.com

It’s about honoring service, strengthening community, and giving back in ways that matter. This year, our team proudly launched the Le Portier Military Appreciation Tour with Shannon Sharpe, bringing our gratitude directly to the brave men and women who serve our nation. Every base visit, every handshake, and every shared moment have reinforced the importance of showing real, tangible appreciation not just in words, but in action. A core pillar of this initiative is our expanding partnership with Gold Star Families. Their strength and sacrifice represent the highest form of service. Supporting them is not a gesture, it’s a responsibility. Through dedicated programming, curated events, and ongoing outreach, we’re building a platform that ensures these families are honored, recognized, and supported year round. We’re also proud to share that a portion of Le Portier Cognac sales is committed directly to supporting Gold Star Family programs. Danny Saltzman liked thisDanny Saltzman liked thisWhat started at IG by O.C. Tanner last year, has evolved into something amazing. Grateful to Robert X. Fogarty and the Team at Dear World for allowing me to share my story, in the hopes of inspiring more teachers and leaders to show up in the best of ways. My continued goal is to bring this mantra to the Breakthru Beverage Group associate experience, every day. Check it out, below: It started from a hard place. I was in a gifted math class where everyone worked independently and at their own pace. One day, I brought my folder to the front of the class because I had a question. The teacher not only belittled me, she called attention to me in front of the rest of the class and said I didn’t belong there anymore. She moved me out of the gifted class and put me into a lower-level math class. That was incredibly heavy for me. I had always been a people pleaser, especially with authority. I never wanted to disappoint teachers or leaders. So being singled out like that stayed with me. It took a long time for me to feel comfortable speaking up again. It really wasn’t until high school that another teacher changed that for me. Her name was Dotty Lutgen. She put me in a room full of people and basically said, “Get up and make a speech. I know you can do it. I believe in you. You belong here.” And I did. I ended up going to State Student Council, running a conference, and eventually becoming President of my school student government. She saw something in me and said, “You’re special. You have something, and you need to let the world see it. Don’t make yourself small to make other people comfortable.” That transformed everything for me. One teacher made me question whether I belonged in the room. Dotty helped me believe that I did. She was the kind of person who would see something in you for both of you until you could see it for yourself. Today, I try to help people find their voice. I’m the cheerleader. I’m the encourager. I’m the person who finds the quiet person in the room and helps them feel like they can speak. One of the things that matters most to me now is helping other people feel seen and valued. “I Belong in This Room” is belonging, connection, and curiosity. It’s knowing that I don’t need to make myself small to make other people comfortable. And it’s also about making sure other people know they belong in the room, too. I want people around me to feel seen, valued, and encouraged to bring themselves completely and authentically. Because sometimes all it takes is one person who sees something in you before you’re able to see it yourself.

Danny Saltzman liked thisDanny Saltzman liked thisA few months ago, I wrote that if I had to bet on one place producing the future of tech, it would be Carnegie Mellon University. Today, Ken Griffin made a $3 billion version of that bet. His historic gift to CMU includes $2 billion to build a new campus in Miami, connecting one of the country's deepest pools of technical and research talent with one of its fastest-growing business and capital ecosystems. What I love is the design: the new Miami campus wont be organized around majors. It'll be organized around four problems: health, national security, energy, and advanced manufacturing, with venture studios built in from day one. Those are exactly the sectors where AIs rules will be written over the next decade. When a university organizes around problems instead of disciplines, it creates an environment designed to produce companies, not just papers and science projects that never make it out of the lab. Andean Systems, a company I backed from Carnegie Mellon, is rebuilding rare earth processing in the U.S. That one problem cuts across three of those four: national security, energy, and manufacturing. I've written before about CMUs founder pipeline and why investors should be paying more attention to what is coming out of Pittsburgh. Now that pipeline is getting a bridge to Miami. I'm excited to see what happens when one of Americas deepest technical talent pools gets another ecosystem built to turn research into companies. Danny Saltzman liked thisDanny Saltzman liked thisAn investor who has backed more than 50 unicorns is now backing Armeta as well. In my previous post, I shared that ZaiNar founders Daniel Jacker and Jake Levy had become strategic investors in Armeta. Gregg Smith, founder of Evolution VC Partners, joined us alongside them. And his track record is impressive: • 350+ investments • 50+ unicorns • 15+ decacorns • 30+ exits Some of the stories behind those numbers: Gregg backed Ramp’s Series A in 2020. In June 2026, Ramp announced a $44 billion valuation. He invested in Archer Aviation’s Series A in 2020, before its NYSE listing, then backed founder Brett Adcock again in Figure AI, which subsequently reached a $39 billion valuation. He also invested in Carta before its unicorn round and Truebill before its $1.2 billion acquisition by Rocket Companies. Evolution’s wider portfolio includes ByteDance, Epic Games, Coupang, Brex, Rubrik, Unity, Kraken, Sweetgreen and many other great companies. Having an investor with this track record choose to back Armeta makes this milestone particularly meaningful. Thank you, Gregg, for believing in us. We have a lot to build.

Danny Saltzman liked thisDanny Saltzman liked thisA few months ago, Jason Gunn told me there was one trend I needed to pay attention to: foodservice in convenience. The more we looked into the data, the more exciting the story became. CStores aren’t just competing on fuel, snacks, and beverages anymore....they’re competing with restaurants. When 31% of consumers say they’d travel 15+ minutes for their preferred prepared food from Buc-ee’s… you know something is changing. 🌮⛽ I’m excited to see all of this come together in our new MenuData State of Convenience report and upcoming webinar, hosted by Marie Molde, RD and Jason Gunn with the The Food Institute. They'll dive into prepared food, menu innovation, branded ingredients, and the trends reshaping convenience. Link to webinar: https://lnkd.in/epPwa6pQ

The Foodservice Opportunity: Breaking Free from Retail's Margin Squeeze: For many CPG brands, retail margins are under relentless pressure. Slotting fees, private label competition, and constant promotional demands make profitability elusive. But there's an alternative: FOODSERVICE. According to foodservice expert Ed Zimmerman, founder of The Food Connector, the smart move is building foodservice channels while your retail business is still healthy, not as a last resort. A single foodservice deal—an airline contract, corporate cafeteria, or hotel group—can represent the volume of hundreds of retail stores combined. The real advantage? Those manufacturing efficiencies benefit your entire business, improving margins across all channels. Brands like Kellogg's, Perfect Bar, and Lesser Evil have cracked this code by repurposing existing products in new packaging formats to unlock million-dollar revenue streams while strengthening their retail competitiveness. Three Key Takeaways: 1. Start exploring foodservice before you're in crisis mode. Expanding while your retail business remains healthy gives you stronger negotiating power with foodservice partners. 2. Foodservice volume transforms your entire cost structure. Manufacturing efficiencies from large contracts flow back to improve retail margins, creating a compounding advantage. 3. Work with experienced foodservice guides. The channel operates differently from retail. Experts like Ed Zimmerman can help you avoid costly mistakes and accelerate success. Kathy Sucich reports on her participation as moderator for a Women of the Vine & Spirits regional event which brought women from across the wine and spirits industry together on October 22 at Opici Family Distributing in Glen Rock, New Jersey. With one in three women reportedly shying away from jobs that list “using numbers or data” as a requirement, (and with one in five men also in that category), the discussion explored how to use data as empowerment: bringing clarity to decision-making and delivering confidence in the boardroom. Most of the shared experiences are a great incentive for anyone who is struggling with the concept of working with data to reframe their reluctance into opportunities for growth and developing better business acumen. https://lnkd.in/etz4GnHa

The Open Food Company is bolstering its leadership bench as it kicks off a $3 million seed round to scale its “radically transparent” CPG platform. 💼📈 The open-source holding company has appointed former CAVA Group CFO Jonathan Clark as fractional CFO and tapped creative veteran Matthew Langille as strategic advisor. Clark, who previously guided Honest Tea through its acquisition by Coca-Cola, will steer financial strategy and fundraising as the company eyes omnichannel expansion and new brand launches beyond its debut product, Harry’s Famous Sauce. Founded in 2024 by Renée Guilbault and actor Harry Hamlin, the company positions transparency as a competitive advantage—publishing detailed testing and nutrition data alongside its retail rollout at Gelson’s. With plans to expand into marinades, dressings, spices and more, the next chapter is already taking shape. 🌿🥫 Link to the full story in the first comment below 👇 #CPG #FoodIndustry #StartupFunding #Leadership #FoodTransparency #BetterForYou #RetailExpansion

Searching for growth? General Mills has announced plans to boldly go after the over 55s in their quest to increase volumes. While much of CPG chases 18-45s or the latest wellness fad, General Mills is placing its bets on three under-the-radar, high-leverage consumer groups: - Adults aged 55 +, who account for nearly half of U.S. households and have enormous spending power. - Consumers using GLP-1 medications (up to 12%+ of U.S. adults), who’re eating less but seeking more protein, more functional nutrients, smaller portions. - Hispanic shoppers, where General Mills plans to ramp up innovation and engagement by ~40% in FY26. This move takes product renovation in new directions - redesigning products and formats to match how people now live, eat and feel. They’re innovating for smaller households (smaller pack sizes), higher-protein need states, functional nutrition and not just indulgence. And this isn’t an isolated move. It’s part of a broader CPG reboot as the absence of growth looms.
