David Moore shared thisTime to play everyone’s favorite hotel room game: What Does This Switch Do? Your choices are 1, 2, 3, and 4. So helpful. Are we opening the curtains and shades? Changing the lights? Moving an entire window wall? Heating the bathroom floor? I appreciate “WORK LIGHT” and “OFF” making an effort, but the other four who knows! A few clear labels would go a long way. Then there’s the bedside outlet situation. I appreciate the installation or maintenance team trying to keep the cables organized. But could we leave some accessible power for the person actually sleeping here? A CPAP needs to stay plugged in. Phones, iPads, and Kindles need charging. Guests shouldn’t have to crawl behind furniture and decide which hotel appliance to unplug before bed. I know updating rooms isn’t always simple. But accessible outlets at the nightstand feel like something we should have figured out by now. And for the love of all germaphobes, could that switch panel get a good cleaning? I’d like a Clorox wipe before I begin tonight’s mystery-button experience! Thank you! When we do site visits at Moore Style Events ™️ these are some of the the details I notice.

David Moore shared thisEvent production tip: If I have to lean into your chest to read your name badge, we have a design problem! Please make the full name easy to read from six feet away! The main job of a badge is to help people connect. I realize they also are needed for security, menu and dietary requests etc. Here are five ways to help it do that: 📛 Make the full name the star. Give it the largest type and enough space. 📛 Use a font people can actually read. Clear lettering and strong contrast. 📛 Include the guest’s company. It can be a great conversation starter. 📛 Add a QR code for contact details or LinkedIn. Make it easier than keeping track of a stack of business cards. 📛 Use color with a purpose. Badge accents or different lanyard colors can help identify speakers, team members, or other groups. And for fabulous lanyards, look at our friends at COLORS for GOOD, whose work supports local communities and I love all their fun colors too. At Moore Style Events ™️, we think about how guests will actually use these things. A badge might look fabulous on your screen but can anyone read it while standing across from you?

David Moore shared thisI recently received an email from a convention center’s general email address. It's located in a beautiful location in a European city. Lots of features and benefits as well as plenty of reasons to consider it. But no direct sales contact! I don't get it? Understandably, there are a lot of people working at a convention center, and a shared inbox probably makes life easier for the team. But from this side of the conversation, you’re asking me to consider a major business relationship without introducing me to a person? The Moore Style Events ™️ team signs contracts ranging from $300,000 to $3 million. That takes trust. I want to know who we’ll be working with, walk the property/space together, ask questions, and get a sense of how your team handles things when the answer isn’t in the sales PDF. Am I the only one who finds a sales email from “info@” a little impersonal and rather annoying when they don't include at least one contact?

David Moore shared thisThis photo was taken at an incredible museum in Japan. I’m looking at the art, but I remember exactly where my mind was: at the event we were producing the next morning. We’d done the setup, the venue was ready. And yet, there I was, mentally walking through the program again thinking about the guests, interpreters, speakers and how the day would flow. As well as every single hiccup that could challenge us in the morning. At some point I caught myself, looked up, and thought: I’m in Japan, in this amazing museum. I’m grateful for the fabulous team at Moore Style Events ™️. We prepare together and looked out for everyone through every step. The best thing I could do in that moment was trust the work we’d already done and enjoy the museum.

David Moore shared thisWhile I was in Hiroshima, I found this tiny leaf and it stopped me. It made me think of Macrofying’s videos. If you haven't seen them, check them out. Zooming in on everyday things (like a leaf) until it fills the screen, it's veins look like rivers, and you start seeing details you never knew were there. I know, it's a little spacey but just go with me for a minute. Then I found myself doing the opposite: imagining the view pulling back from my hand, past Hiroshima, past Earth, and out into the universe. Suddenly, the big decisions I’d been thinking about feel like nothing. Maybe that is a lesson we all need to do once and awhile. Take a step back and give yourself time to refocus. During the busy season, our team at Moore Style Events ™️ is busy planning and producing but we can't forget to ask our clients and ourselves, what is the purpose of the event? Once you understand zooming into the 5 W's (what for, why, who, where and when) it's so much easier to bring all the little details into focus.

David Moore shared thisIs 5 minutes really long enough for a bio break? NOOOO! Here’s a quick gauge to see how long your bio break should be in the agenda. At a conference: start timer, leave the conference room, find and walk to the closest restroom, wait your turn, wash up, refill your water, and get back to your seat. How long did that take you? Now imagine doing it with hundreds of other guests. 😃 I love a packed program, but we need to give people a little more time that 5 minutes. Moore Style Events ™️

David Moore shared thisCan we PLEASE stop taking group photos where the front row looks like they’re taking a poop? You know the pose. Half squat, hands on knees, trying to stay low while someone takes fourteen pictures. Nobody is comfortable. And the front row looks like the fresh sushi in "land locked" Orlando just kicked in! Yes, I said it, sushi in Orlando scares me. We’re heading into the holiday season and one of the busiest event times of the year. There will be a LOT of group photos. Take an extra minute to arrange the people in them. We want everyone to look good in group photos, hire a professional photographer! If that is not in the budget: 📸 Take a moment to organize the group - taller in the back etc. 📸 Spread everyone out. Fill the frame with people instead of photographing the ballroom wall. 📸 If you need more rows, stagger people so we can actually see everyone’s face. 📸 For a larger group, get chairs for the front row or use steps if they’re accessible. At Moore Style Events ™️ we want our guests to leave with a fabulous group photo.

David Moore shared thisThe invitation says: business casual. What does that REALLY mean? Someone in tech is thinking jeans and a t-shirt. Someone else is thinking a buttoned down shirt and chinos. Someone is Europe is thinking black jacket, white shirt no tie. Someone in finance is thinking another boring blue blazer. Another person is thinking it's the perfect opportunity to wear a vintage dress! But really, can we talk about “business casual”? We put those two words on an invitation and assume everyone knows what we mean. What works for a reception in Milan could get you a few looks at a medical conference in Boston. And that’s before we get into “smart casual,” “resort chic” and whatever “elevated casual” is supposed to mean. At Moore Style Events ™️ we want our guests to feel comfortable showing up. Tell people what to expect. Jeans welcome? Jackets required? Dinner outside on grass? That matters. Communicate clearly for the win.

How do we know who and what to believe? What we need is evidence: a clear picture of what models can do, where the real risks are in cyber, biology and other domains, and which mitigations actually work. And we can’t only rely on the people building the models to give us the evidence. The government needs the ability to test also. Without that visibility, America won’t have the full picture - trying to understand risks we aren’t even sure exist. You cannot regulate what you cannot measure.
