Ellen Cook liked thisEllen Cook liked thisMy dad has had 10 heart attacks, 14 stents, and today is the Ol Man's birthday! And he still wants to know what time we're loading the trailer for the track in 2 weeks. Growing up, his alarm went off before 4 AM. He was at the pharmaceutical plant installing machines while the whole house was asleep. Home by 3 PM. Then straight to whatever game me, Richie, or Rocco had that day. He tried to make every single one. Every! Single! One! Some Thanksgivings, the phone rang in the middle of dinner. A machine went down. He'd push his chair back, grab his keys, and go. None of us thought twice about it back then. I think about it a lot now. Racing is STILL his whole world. He's still the guy on his knees in the pits when something breaks. 10 heart attacks later, he's still showing up. He doesn't have LinkedIn. He'll never see this. He's too busy getting ready for the New Hampshire race. But I have to write about my hero on here, right? Happy birthday, Dad, enjoy your sangria!

After I’ve only worked 3 days as the HR Specialist for Bass Pro Shops, I had to call in sick. I just couldn’t believe it. I was devastated. If this were to happen with any other team, I would’ve been worried. But Bass Pro Shops Victor, NY team was able to power through, ahem PIVOT, with the help of our amazing HR team from the Great Lakes region. I am so grateful to be surrounded with such understanding, incredible, and supportive group of people. I hope nobody has to go through what I went through, but if you do, I hope you have a team as amazing as I do behind you. Ellen Cook liked thisEllen Cook liked thisJob seekers: please be careful. Last week, I received what appeared to be an incredible opportunity from a recruiter representing a well-known company. The message was professional. The opportunity sounded legitimate. And if I'm being completely transparent, I wanted it to be real. But something felt off. So I started asking questions and doing a little digging. Eventually, I discovered the person whose name and photo were being used was a real professional—but she wasn't the person contacting me. It was a scam. It reminded me how easy it can be, especially when you're searching for your next opportunity, to want something to be credible before you've actually verified it. Do the extra homework. Verify the recruiter and email address. Look for the role on the company's career site. Ask questions. And if something doesn't feel right, trust yourself enough to investigate it. I reached out to the real person whose identity was being used because I'd want someone to do the same for me. Has this happened to you? I'd love to hear your experience, and please feel free to share your story if it might help another job seeker recognize the signs. This job-search journey can be hard enough. We're all in this together, so let's look out for one another. 💙
