Elliot S. Weissbluth reposted thisKCEC is one of the most wildfire prone utilities in this country, and the team at Voltair is proud to have played a role in mitigating this risk. 👉 Big shoutout to the Kit Carson Electric Cooperative Inc. team, including Michael Ryan and Michael Santistevan, for equipping their linemen with critical asset health information needed to address faults proactively in their service area. #GridModernization, #WildfireMitigation, #UtilityTech, #LinemenElliot S. Weissbluth reposted thisKCEC crews put in a long, hard day today out in Taos Canyon and the surrounding areas. From early this morning, our team has been out changing cross arms and performing critical line maintenance to help prepare for wildfire season. Working in heavily forested terrain, often without vehicle access, takes dedication, strength, and a real commitment to keeping the lights on for our members. We appreciate everyone’s patience during today’s planned outage and want to thank our crews for their continued hard work and safety-first mindset. A special thank you to Firescape Inc. and Voltair for their partnership and support in advancing smarter, more efficient, and innovative approaches to wildfire mitigation.

Elliot S. Weissbluth reposted thisElliot S. Weissbluth reposted thisVoltair is building the world's first globally distributed network of autonomous drones for Earth observation. Power utilities are the perfect first customer. Aging infrastructure and extreme weather drive the need for millimeter-scale inspection data on the power grid. Utilities spend tens of billions of dollars every year just looking at their own equipment. Autonomous drone fleets will enable utilities to inspect 7 million miles of infrastructure more frequently, quickly, and accurately. Their long-range, weatherized flying robots work with charging pads installed directly on utility poles. Each new pad unlocks 1000 square miles of coverage. With a charging network deployed on the power grid, Voltair can serve existing multi-billion dollar data markets in road, rail and telecom inspection at 10x lower prices while enabling entirely new applications in hyperlocal weather monitoring, forestry, construction, search & rescue, and insurance. Elliot S. Weissbluth reposted thisAmerica’s infrastructure is deteriorating. It makes sense: the U.S. is vast. There’s 7 million miles of power lines in this country alone (enough to go to the moon and back 14 times). And 90% of all power flows through transformers that are an average of 40 years old (which is about the point that they start to fail - Swiss Re). These faults ignite Wildfires. Look at the devastation of the Palisades Fire in LA last year. The solution? Today, infrastructure operators must manually review every mile, primarily with truck rolls & helicopter flights. Think $300-3,000 / line-mile of expense. This is not the future. Voltair is the future. We’re building a way for operators to always know the status of their assets 10x as fast and for a fraction of the cost.Elliot S. Elliot S. Weissbluth shared thisIncredibly proud of Dr. Greg Stein, one of my oldest friends, who has dedicated his career to fighting glioblastoma, the most common and deadliest form of brain cancer. Read below about his recent break through success. https://lnkd.in/ep_ZrSD7Elliot S. Weissbluth shared thisWe may have finally found the key to unlocking the full power of immunotherapy in glioblastoma. I am proud to announce the publication of a pivotal new study involving our lead candidate, CT-179, in The Journal of Clinical Investigation (JCI). Glioblastoma (GBM) has long been considered an immunologically "cold" tumor, resistant to the checkpoint inhibitors that have transformed treatment for other cancers. This new research, led by researchers at Chongqing Medical University, identifies a critical mechanism behind this resistance. The study reveals that the transcription factor OLIG2 recruits HDAC7 to suppress CXCL10, a vital signaling molecule that attracts T-cells. By inhibiting OLIG2, CT-179 reverses this process in preclinical models, effectively turning "cold" tumors "hot". Key findings from the publication: ▪️ The Mechanism: OLIG2 creates an immunosuppressive niche by silencing CXCL10. ▪️ The Solution: CT-179 intervention disrupts this axis, significantly increasing CD8+ T-cell infiltration and activation. ▪️ Future Potential: In preclinical models, combining CT-179 with anti-PD-L1 therapy significantly prolonged survival compared to either treatment alone. These findings validate the mechanism of action of CT-179 as we prepare to launch the OPAL study, our multi-site Phase 1 trial in recurrent and newly diagnosed GBM. While our current focus is on establishing the safety and tolerability of CT-179, this data provides a compelling scientific rationale for future strategies to overcome immune resistance in GBM and other OLIG2-expressing brain cancers. Elliot S. Weissbluth liked thisElliot S. Weissbluth liked thisGrowth in wealth management is being redefined in real time. A recent discussion with leaders across a platform provider, a scaled RIA, and industry research highlighted a clear shift in how firms are thinking about growth—and what actually drives it today. JConnelly Envestnet Cresset Wolfe Research, LLC Key themes that stood out: Beyond AUM and flows: Firms are placing greater emphasis on client retention, wallet share, and advisor productivity as true indicators of durable growth. From expansion to enablement: The focus is shifting from simply adding advisors to improving the productivity and effectiveness of existing teams through technology, client experience, and selective M&A. AI with a pragmatic lens: AI is already improving efficiency and personalization, but its role as a direct revenue driver is still emerging. Higher bar for investment: With capital constraints back in focus, firms are making more disciplined trade-offs between margin, speed, and long-term ROI. The throughline: Growth today is far more intentional. It’s less about market beta—and more about execution, discipline, and differentiation. Would be interested in how others are seeing these shifts show up across their organizations.

Johns Hopkins University graduate Ryan Alezz has been named a Schwarzman Scholar, a highly selective program at China’s Tsinghua University modeled after Oxford’s Rhodes Scholarship. Scholars have all costs covered as they pursue a one-year master’s in global affairs in Beijing. The 2026-2027 cohort will include 150 students representing 40 countries and 83 universities from around the world. Born in Dubai of Palestinian descent, Alezz graduated from Hopkins in 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering. While at JHU, he served as president of the Muslim Student Association, where he promoted interfaith partnerships and advocated for institutional support for students’ religious needs. He also designed pacemaker training simulators and an automated food distribution system for food deserts, and served as an EMT and community health worker in Baltimore. He credits this time with teaching him how to “think like an engineer,” allowing him to break down large problems to find evidence-based solutions. “Hopkins gave me the freedom to move between engineering, medicine, policy, and community work, and that interdisciplinary culture played a major role in preparing me for opportunities like Schwarzman,” he says. Alezz has also pursued service and research projects around the world, working in the Gambia, Uganda, and at the Thailand-Myanmar border. “I saw how health outcomes are shaped not only by clinical care, but by policy, infrastructure, and governance,” he says. “Growing up in a family of Palestinian refugees shaped how I understand health, instability, and access to care. It instilled in me a desire to work in humanitarian and low-resource settings, particularly in the Middle East, while also strengthening health systems in underserved communities like Baltimore.” After Tsinghua University, Alezz plans to attend medical school, where he will continue to combine his passions for medicine, engineering, and policy. “I aspire to become a physician-engineer who can move fluidly between clinical care, systems design, and policy, addressing both immediate patient needs and the structural factors that determine long-term outcomes,” he says. “Schwarzman’s emphasis on global leadership and China’s rising role in global development and interdisciplinary problem-solving felt like a natural fit for the kind of physician-engineer I hope to become. Being named a Schwarzman Scholar is deeply humbling, and I feel both honored and excited to join a community committed to thoughtful, cross-cultural leadership.”

A small retailer in Mexico City modernized with better signage and basic inventory tracking. Revenue jumped 15-25%. That kind of growth is possible for small businesses worldwide, yet many resist modernization. Stanford GSB Professor Sridhar Narayanan studied why. His research on 1,100 retailers found that simple changes yielded a return on investment within six months. So what holds businesses back? Some lack technical know-how. Others fear attracting unwanted attention from tax authorities. Many assume customers will abandon them for looking “too modern.” Why does this matter? Small businesses are engines of employment and growth. They extend credit to customers without access to formal banking, create jobs, and connect large companies to local markets. Understanding what helps them modernize affects not only individual owners but also entire economies. Listen to explore the research: https://lnkd.in/eN9PY5GU

Drawing parallels to institutions such as Harvard and Stanford, Fitsum argued that autonomous universities may need to evolve into research-specialised entities that use revolving funds. Success will depend on researchers’ ability to seek grants and produce applied research that addresses national development challenges. #Educational #Policy #Ethiopia Read more - https://shorturl.at/7Mw90

🚨 Smolny College: A Legacy of Liberal Education, Reborn Beyond Borders Established in 1997 in partnership with Bard College, Smolny College became the first liberal arts program in Russia, promoting interdisciplinary, student-centered education. For over two decades, it provided an alternative to the rigid structures of traditional Russian higher education. In 2021, this legacy faced a turning point. Bard College was declared an “undesirable organization” by the Russian Ministry of Justice — making international academic cooperation illegal and forcing the closure of the double-degree program. But the story did not end there. Today, Smolny Beyond Borders carries forward the mission in exile. Operating as an independent educational initiative, it offers accredited U.S. university courses to students regardless of location — including many who remain in Russia. The program retains its core values: academic freedom, critical inquiry, and a commitment to liberal education. In the blog on Freedom Degree website we spoke with Ilya Kalinin, a former associate professor at Smolny and now a faculty member at Smolny Beyond Borders, to reflect on the college’s history, its transformation, and the importance of maintaining intellectual communities beyond geopolitical borders. 📚 Information about Smolny programs is available via the Freedom Degree database #AcademicFreedom #HigherEducation #LiberalArts #SmolnyCollege #EducationinExile
