Giuliana Hartwell liked thisGiuliana Hartwell liked thisJust completed a successful AI-Native Banking & Fintech Conference! Thanks to the whole conference team who put on a great event. And thanks to Hannah Ellis and Pearson Wallace for representing Jump - Advisor AI so well. A few takeaways from the speakers and panelists: 1. AI usage is changing from chatbots giving advice (e.g., “tell me about the industry”) to agents taking action (e.g., “The phrase "human in the loop" got a lot of discussion around it. It can’t just be a blanket approval of AI actions, it has to be real review from someone taking consideration. 2. Banks and credit unions are ramping up their AI adoption quickly. In every session, someone mentioned already running agents in production. And the way that banks are measuring the success of those agents is changing from "how many agents did we build" to “what was the impact of those agents.” 3. Change management is as important, if not more important, than the technology itself. Adoption and use cases are essential to getting value and ROI from AI tooling. 4. Build vs. buy is a real consideration, but for most community regional and community banks/credit unions the answer is shaking out to be: Build the low-risk internal tools yourself. Buy the high-risk regulated stuff from a specialist. Also the engineering and maintenance costs are always going to be higher than you anticipated. Overall I came away extremely bullish on what we're building here at Jump and how it will help banks and credit unions deploy AI in a meaningful way.

Giuliana Hartwell liked thisGiuliana Hartwell liked thisI turn 40 in a few months. After 16 years in tech, I've finally landed on what success means. It took a while to get here. In my early 20s, success meant a high salary and a prestigious job. When I got my offer from Microsoft I was genuinely hyped, even though it meant moving to an unfamiliar city with no network and a country away from my girlfriend. I had assigned my worth to a number on an offer letter. Because I made $X, I had made it. That was a fallacy. In my late 20s and early 30s, success meant proving I could build something from nothing. Getting on coveted lists. Having articles written about me. Achieving some version of an exit and becoming a player in tech. Some of those milestones happened and they felt good. But that wasn't success either. Now I'm 39, a few months from 40, and I finally feel like I understand what it actually means. Success is being values-aligned across all parts of your life. Doing things because they have real meaning to you, not because of how they look from the outside or how others would validate them. For me that means being the dad I always wanted to be, present and active in my twins' lives. Working with founders on hard problems as a fractional CMO because I genuinely love that work. And having the time and flexibility to show up for the people and relationships that matter most to me. That's it. That's the whole thing. I may have a different version of what success means in the next decade. But whatever it looks like, the standard will be the same, is it values-aligned? If yes, it counts. If not, it doesn't matter how impressive it looks.

Industry Analysts Look for Trends in Gold and Retail Data What a fun conversation at the Atlanta Jewelry Show with Rob Bates, Paul Zimnisky, CFA, David Siminski and Andrea Hill. We covered a lot of ground — gold, the economy, consumer spending, inventory, margins and what retailers should be thinking about as we head into the balance of the year. My message to retailers was pretty simple: Know your customers. Know your numbers. Your data is a gold mine. There will always be things outside of our control. The best retailers stay disciplined, manage their inventory, protect their margins and make decisions based on what their own data is telling them. Great conversation with some very smart industry people! Rob Bates shares the entire discussion in his substack The Jewelry Wire. https://lnkd.in/gHzMW3JC

Elena Bonvicini went from selling reconstructed vintage jeans on her high school locker room floor to Bergdorf Goodman in about five years. EB Denim’s trajectory is a case study in how modern fashion brands scale without following the traditional playbook. She started with a supply arbitrage insight: vintage men's Levis’Store 501s were abundant and cheap, women's vintage denim was scarce and expensive. She bought men's jeans, reconstructed them into women's fits, and sold them to classmates. But upcycling has a ceiling. Vintage supply is inherently limited. You can’t manufacture vintage at scale. So at the point where most upcycled brands plateau, Elena made the move that separated EB Denim from the rest: she launched a contemporary line using new sustainable fabric while keeping the vintage reconstruction line as her brand anchor. Smart sequencing: Use the scarcity and one-of-a-kind nature of vintage to build brand heat and celebrity placement (Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid wearing truly unique pieces). Then leverage that brand equity to launch scalable product lines that can actually fill retail purchase orders. The brand's now carried at Bergdorf, Selfridges, REVOLVE, and Holt Renfrew. All manufactured in LA, which typically kills margin but becomes a brand asset when your customer cares about supply chain provenance. What’s impressive to me is the capital efficiency. Elena bootstrapped this from thrift-store inventory to global distribution without burning VC money. The vintage line generated early cash flow while she figured out manufacturing. The organic celebrity placement created demand before she had retail infrastructure. For brands in the $10M–$20M range trying to solve the retail expansion puzzle: EB Denim’s path shows the answer isn’t always “raise capital and build inventory.” Sometimes it’s “build disproportionate brand equity with limited inventory first, then use that leverage to negotiate retail terms that actually work.”
