Cloud-Adoption Strategies: Using the Cloud to Enable the Future University

We review the general steps of cloud adoptions and discuss our story of migrating 5 physical data centers from around the world into Amazon Web Services. We discuss the transformation of our team from administrators to engineers and further go on to discuss what is next for us - a fundamental change in the way our students learn with Project Triton.

Project Bell was designed to replace an aging Avaya PBX with a global Cisco solution. With more then 3500 people around the world, it is critical for UMUC employees to be able to communicate quickly and efficiently regardless of whether you were at the headquarters location in Adelphi, Maryland or at one of the region testing facilities in the middle east. The implementation of the Cisco solution with SIP to the public network not only reduced operating costs by nearly 450k per year, it…
Project Bell was designed to replace an aging Avaya PBX with a global Cisco solution. With more then 3500 people around the world, it is critical for UMUC employees to be able to communicate quickly and efficiently regardless of whether you were at the headquarters location in Adelphi, Maryland or at one of the region testing facilities in the middle east. The implementation of the Cisco solution with SIP to the public network not only reduced operating costs by nearly 450k per year, it introduced mobility features along with redundancy/resiliency that had never existing before at UMUC allowing us to to further ensure that our students come first.
