Jason Feifer shared thisI called a founder out for trying to trick me with AI — and his reply was perfect. Here’s what happened. Last week, a young founder pitched me his company. He opened his email by complimenting an article of mine… but uhhh, that article was just the intro to a list. So I replied and kindly said, essentially: “I know you didn’t read that article. This isn't the right way to start a conversation." He replied to acknowledge the error and said it wouldn’t happen again. Great response. I get it — AI makes it easy to research and write. But the point of communication isn’t efficiency; it’s human connection! This founder knows that personal connections matter. But he forgot it must be genuinely personal. You cannot treat other people like computer inputs, just sending them “the right” information and hoping for an output. I think that’s worth reminding people of. So I'll do it, directly. Jason Feifer shared thisMost webinars hemorrhage audience. Here’s how ours hit 50% attendance and 90% retention. My company CPG Fast Track ran free webinars to attract CPG founders. We tested content until we found what worked: live packaging reviews where we critique attendees' products on the spot. Our sales pitch stayed tight. Just a few minutes at the start and middle, so people stuck around and were never bored. Now, this is critical: Everything flowed through Riverside. The registration flow was easy. Reminder emails drove attendance. Video was extra sharp. And after the webinar ends, it became a marketing content engine. Riverside records locally in 4K, so everyone looks and sounds great (even with bad wifi). Every speaker gets a separate track, and the text-based editor makes editing easy: Just cut a sentence in the transcript, the video adjusts. AI removes filler words automatically. Jason Feifer shared thisCan you take a first date to McDonald’s? The internet said no, so McDonald’s said… “We agree.” Study this ad, because it’s a great way to respond to “bad” publicity. It started out embarrassing: McDonald’s was listed as one of the worst places for a first date, and the idea went viral. Then McDonald’s (with FP7 McCann Dubai) launched a campaign in the Middle East. It showed people at various stages of life at McD, with the caption: “Not for first dates. But for every other one.” It was the greatest of all marketing tricks: Use your weakness as a strength. In this case, McDonald’s essentially said: “We don’t need to be a first-date spot, because we’re here for many other special moments in your life.” What a reminder: Don’t hide from the hard conversations. Jason Feifer shared thisThis is Chef Boyardee’s first redesign in decades ��� and it does something very important: The brand wanted to modernize, but without sacrificing what people already loved. It’s a tricky act, and many brands get it wrong. So the agency Little Big Brands went back to basics. They asked, in essence: “What makes this brand special in the first place?” The answer is value and trust. Many people grew up with it, and the chef was a real guy (Italian chef Ettore Boiardi, and helped introduce Italian food to America in the 1920s). Next question: How can that uniqueness be heightened? They decided to treat the chef as more than a logo; he became an attitude and identity. He's now more realistic on the packaging, and a new ad campaign says “Now We’re Cheffin’” — making anyone the chef. It’s a great recipe for evolution: Take what makes a brand special, make it modern and relevant, and bring old fans along while you expand to make new ones. Was this helpful? Jason Feifer shared thisBurger King paid for this couple's wedding. Here's why: In 2020, Illinois residents Joel Burger and Ashley King took an engagement photo at their local Burger King. Their local paper wrote about it. The BK team saw that, reached out, and offered to pay for their wedding. They sent goodies too. Was this marketing? Yeah. But it felt like magic. A brand showed up in a real person's life, delivering what nobody else could. Most marketers chase people with new ads, emails, socials. But customers' lives are full of little openings, where a brand can add unexpected value. And you don’t need BK’s budget to do it. Just ask yourself: “What are my customers doing? Jason Feifer shared thisThis “top podcast” is faking its numbers — and here’s how I know: First, I went to their Instagram. I looked at their videos. The top videos have thousands of likes… and almost no comments, except for a few emojis or single words like “insane”. In other words, it’s fake engagement. And if they’re paying for bots, how can I trust that their podcast reaches 70,000 humans? Remember this, if you pay for engagement: 1. It’s obvious, and everyone can see it. 2. If makes people doubt your other claims. 3. You’ll never learn how to make good things, because you never see how people really respond (or don’t respond!) to your work. It's a strategy every brand should steal: In 2009, a random guy pulled into a Shell station… and got an unexpected pit stop from Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher and the Ferrari F1 pit crew. Why? Because Shell knew this marketing truism: *Don't sell what you are. Sell what you enable.* Nobody cares about Shell’s fuel or technology. They care about their own cars’ performance. So Shell wanted to make that point: Essentially: “We enable elite performance.” The greatest brands communicate this. Nike doesn’t sell shoes; it enables achievement. For decades, Heinz's glass ketchup bottle was a branding nightmare: It was messy and hard to use, but also iconic. So Heinz kept it for decades, thinking that form mattered more than function. But in 2002, they tested an upside-down plastic squeeze bottle. Within a year, Heinz grew 3X faster than competitors. Why? Because the glass didn’t matter after all! Convenience and taste mattered more! I see this all the time — founders misunderstanding what consumers care about, then hanging onto the wrong things. So here’s a simple way out: Ask yourself, “What problems do I solve for my customer? And what problems still remain?” Then prioritize those answers. Jason Feifer shared thisJohn Mackey built and sold Whole Foods. His secret? He kept firing himself from jobs he loved. "I asked myself a question all the time: What does the company most need me to do now?" he told me. In the early days, Mackey oversaw real estate. He was good at it. But as Whole Foods grew, it didn't need its CEO running real estate anymore. It needed him to be the face of the company. So he did it, even though he didn't love it. "I was able to grow as a leader because I kept asking that question," he said, "and I had the courage to go into unfamiliar, uncomfortable situations." Most leaders build companies around their strengths. Mackey built his strengths around the company. This is what leaders often miss, he says: Your value is your ability to evolve. Tyler Lawson your response here is fascinating. I use lower case in comments because I’m replying quickly on my phone, whereas I spend more time crafting the language in my post. And em dashes enable more complex sentence structure and idea expression, which also isn’t really necessary in comments. But this really cuts to the problem: I’m a human being you clearly dont trust, and you’re evaluating me through a technology you trust more. There’s no solution to this problem.

We almost never go anywhere or take real time away, so this was supposed to be a sacred break. Instead, I sat there looking over my glowing laptop screen, troubleshooting backend operational bugs for Money News Network. My Slack was blowing up, our processes were jammed, and I was drowning in the weeds. To prepare for an upcoming interview, I finally cracked open Codie A. Sanchez's new book. A few chapters in, one line hit me square between the eyes: "Do you own the business, or does the business own you?" I literally looked around the hotel room to check if someone had hidden a camera in the lamp. It exposed the exact trap every creator-founder falls into. If you spend all your time on camera creating, your backend systems crumble. But the second you step away to fix operations, the content engine grinds to a halt. You end up frantically sprinting between being the public face of the company and playing amateur IT tech behind the scenes. I built a career telling women to claim their time and build financial freedom. Yet there I was, turning an anniversary trip into an unpaid overtime shift for a company I supposedly own. Building a business that relies on your face is easy. Building one that doesn't run you into the ground is the real work. If you don't build systems to replace yourself, you haven't built a company. You've just bought yourself an exhausting, 24/7 job.

Substack had an impressive promise: an 'Empire of One.' Yet, as it strives to be a centralized social network, it risks alienating the very creators who once thrived on its platform. This dilution manifests in real departures—writers leaving not due to failure, but because Substack no longer accommodates their success, demonstrating the cost of unexamined scale.

The data is in and it supports human PR pitches. Pitching media is a highly competitive sport. If you'd like to more than triple your success, stop using AI to draft your pitches. The data Brett Farmiloe shared is from HARO, but it's directionally relevant to all PR platforms -- particularly the one in three journalists who opted out from AI pitches entirely on HARO. If you're pitching those same journalists and using AI, you're more than likely wasting your time and theirs. I'd love to hear from journalists on what % of their inbox is AI written.
