Congratulations to the Butterfield Group, as the sponsor of the NorthStar Canada Team on their performance at the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix on the Hudson River. It was my first SailGP experience and I was amazed by the specialized team where every role was tightly defined and where high-frequency coordination was driven by human-machine integration - data, analytics and advanced technology systems enabled onboard and onshore leaders competing against uncontrollable elements where real-time decision making and expert execution made the difference. Special appreciation to Phil Kennard for the backstage look at the preparation and continuous learning required, and for the front row seat to leadership in motion.

At Spencer Stuart’s annual Partner Meeting this month, we explored these questions with Courtney della Cava of Blackstone and David Gibbs, former CEO of Yum! Brands, who shared perspectives on how we can best partner with our clients at the intersection of strategy and leadership. We also heard from Richard Oakes, CEO of OIO Group and UCI World Champion cyclist, on building trusted relationships that drive meaningful, long-term impact. A clear theme throughout our time together was the growing role of AI and technology in how we deliver for clients and enhance the ways we work. Matthew Fitzpatrick (Invisible Technologies) and Jeffrey McMillan (McMillanAI) brought forward practical, forward-looking insights on how we use AI and a broader perspective on how it will shape the future of professional services. Last week, our global partners and board came together at our annual Partner Meeting to reflect on how our clients’ needs are evolving, and how we continue to evolve alongside them. We do so from a position of strength, with real momentum across the firm and a clear focus on helping our clients drive performance, growth, and long-term value. At one point, I was asked a simple question: how do we know when we’re succeeding? For me, the answer is clear. It’s reflected in the people who choose to join our firm—and in the commitment of those who choose to stay, grow, and build with us. Our own talent is what enables us to deliver consistent, high-impact outcomes for our clients. This year, we welcomed 48 new partners and celebrated the lasting contributions of colleagues who have helped shape Spencer Stuart. I left the week energized—by the strength of our team, the depth of our client relationships, and the opportunity ahead for our firm and for our clients.

Jordan Brugg liked thisJordan Brugg liked thisButterfield Bank has announced plans to acquire a majority stake in CIBC Caribbean in a deal valued at approximately US$1.8 billion, creating a regional banking group with an estimated US$29 billion in assets. The transaction would see Butterfield acquire CIBC’s 91.7% interest in CIBC Caribbean, with the deal expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
