Jody C. Miller reacted on thisJody C. Miller reacted on thisLast week I did my “off-site” site visit as a finalist for 2026 Tampa Bay Small Business of the Year - startup. Here's the honest part. It was one of the hardest things I've done in business. Not the presentation. The preparation. I spent months looking at my own business more closely than I ever have. What's working, what isn't, where it's going. That kind of examination is uncomfortable when you're the only person in the firm and every answer is yours. I also had to ask for help. A lot of it. That's not my strong suit. I asked anyway, over and over, and people showed up every single time. And I leaned hard on the fifth of BayView's five core values. Progress, not perfection. I have never needed it more than I did in the last few weeks. What I got out of it is a much clearer picture of where this firm is going, and a better understanding of the kind of owner I want to be. I never thought that unruly kid on the left who lacked purpose and discipline could be shaped into the guy on the right and reach the pinnacle of the enlisted ranks. So many leaders along the way helped shape and coach me to reach my untapped potential and I am truly grateful for all of them and all of the service members that I got to serve alongside of during my military journey! Boom 💥!

A jersey with LET THEM across the back. ✅ Bucket list LET is my word for 2026. Let them. Let me. Two phrases. A whole different way of thinking. Let them have opinions about what I’m doing. Let me build an independent financial planning firm for women, widows, and military-connected families. The Let Them Theory reads like a personal growth idea. In my office it's a financial planning tool. Most of the women I sit with aren't stuck on the math. They're stuck on what everyone else thinks they should do with the money, the house, the career, the next chapter. Let them think it. Let me decide. I grew up in Massachusetts. I went to Boston University. From the 19th floor of my dorm I could see into Fenway. Friday I was standing in it again. With my 80yo dad. Watching the Sox beat the Giants 6 to 4 on an absurdly beautiful August night. ✅ LET ME find opportunities to create memories with my family while also building a business I can be proud of… What’s your word of the year? Jody C. Miller reacted on thisJody C. Miller reacted on this🇺🇸 Salute To Service | Lieutenant General Mark H. Landes 🇺🇸 Soldiers, family members, and former classmates of Lt. Gen. Mark Landes gathered Aug. 7 to celebrate his distinguished career during relinquishment of command and retirement ceremonies at Quarters One. His 40 years of service began as a cadet at the United States Military Academy and continued through positions and commands at nearly every level, culminating in overseeing the training and readiness of the Army Reserve and Army National Guard as First Army commanding general. Western Hemisphere Command Commanding General Gen. Joseph Ryan reflected on Landes’ impact: “Mark devoted his skill, fortitude, and courage to the First Army mission as Division East commanding general, then as acting commanding general, and now commanding general. Mark's direction, guidance, inspiration, and leadership never wavered.” Retired Army Gen. Daniel Allyn, who served with Landes in various roles, emphasized his commitment to service: “I have had the good fortune to work closely with Mark over the past 15 years. Many can recite the Soldiers’ Creed and the Army Values. Mark embodies them by his daily actions.” Landes recalled a tragic moment from his days as a platoon leader at the military academy, when one of his cadets died after a lightning strike. “I knew then that I wanted to serve Soldiers the rest of my life.” And serve them he did. Landes held leadership roles in mechanized, light, airborne, and Stryker formations, commanding at every level from company to a three-star headquarters. He deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, and Haiti. His assignments included Germany, Georgia, and Hawaii. He helped stand up the Army’s first Stryker brigade and later served as an instructor at the Australian School of Infantry. Landes commanded the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment in Iraq and later deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as commander of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division. His strategic assignments included executive officer to the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, deputy commanding general of the 1st Armored Division, and commander of the Security Force Assistance Command. His awards and decorations include the Army Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and Army Staff Identification Badge. Four decades of service. A career dedicated to Soldiers. A legacy of leadership that will endure long after the uniform is hung up for the final time. I was 229 lbs, overweight, my service injuries were steadily debilitating me, my body was racked with inflammation, it hurt to walk, I was a prisoner of horrible food, and my personal brand was steadily eroding. After a health scare and a visit to the doctor and stepping on the scale, I was embarrassed at what I had become. That day I said no more. No more will I be held hostage to a bad diet, no more would I consume excessive alcohol, no more will I make excuses for my age, being retired and being a disabled veteran. I took back control of my life and health because I chose to say no more to all of the bad things that were bringing me down. Today I am at a steady weight of 177 lbs through intermittent fasting, diet and exercise and just got a clean bill of health during my annual physical. All of this because I chose to say no more and had the courage, conviction, and commitment to stay the course! It is never too late in life to make a positive change! Let’s go! The FourBlock program is a semester-long, university-accredited program that provides the professional development, career exploration, and network that today’s generation of veterans need to be competitive for great careers. Currently an alumni and volunteer with the Tampa chapter of FourBlock. I meet with the student veterans once a week for ten weeks and help facilitate in-person lectures…
Volunteer and student-alumni of the FourBlock Career Readiness Program for transitioning Veterans. The FourBlock program is a semester-long, university-accredited program that provides the professional development, career exploration, and network that today’s generation of veterans need to be competitive for great careers. Currently an alumni and volunteer with the Tampa chapter of FourBlock. I meet with the student veterans once a week for ten weeks and help facilitate in-person lectures, networking events, and practical application. Furthermore, one-on-one mentorship is provided to each veteran in order to address personal transition and career search strategies. I frequently assist the associate instructors and serve as a guest lecturer.
