Johanna Mikkola reposted thisJohanna Mikkola reposted thisGetting your house in order before a sale isn't just good advice — it’s what builds buyer confidence and helps avoid surprises during the process. In this episode of The Intersection, WSHC+B partner Jessika Arce Graham sits down with Johanna Mikkola and Juha Mikkola, co-founders of Wyncode Academy (now BrainStation), to discuss what truly mattered when it came time to sell — beyond valuation alone. 🎙️ Watch here: https://lnkd.in/epzuJyAY #TheIntersection #WSHCBLaw #LawInMotion #FounderStory #ExitStrategy

Johanna Mikkola shared thisThank you Jessika Arce Graham and Weiss Serota Helfman Cole + Bierman, P.L. For the opportunity to share our journey! Check out this fun convo, all about building, scaling and getting things in order for an acquisition 💫 Juha MikkolaJohanna Mikkola shared thisAs a founder, one of the biggest questions is knowing when the time is right to sell. For Johanna Mikkola and Juha Mikkola, that moment came when they least expected it. When COVID pushed Wyncode Academy (now BrainStation) fully online, it didn't slow the business down — it created new opportunities. They entered acquisition conversations from a position of strength, not necessity. 🎙️ Tune in as WSHC+B partner Jessika Arce Graham sits down with Johanna and Juha to hear how they approached one of the most important decisions founders can face — and what they learned throughout the process. Johanna Mikkola shared thisSharing the journey to acquisition in the space where it all started for Wyncode Academy ! Love these full circle moments and so fun to share the stage with friends 💫🥰🤩Johanna Mikkola shared thisThe best exits aren't planned at the moment the opportunity (buyer) knocks. They're planned years before anyone shows up with an offer. This week I had the chance to moderate "Deal Stories" at Miami Tech Week, three founders who've been through an exit, sharing what actually happened. Not the polished version. The pressure moments, the hard decisions, the things they'd do differently. A few things that stayed with me: → Market tailwinds can inflate your valuation. But timing is treacherous. Knowing when you're at the peak, and having a process ready to capture it, is what separates a good exit from a great one. → An exit opportunity can appear when you least expect it. Being ready, financially, operationally, mentally, is what lets you move fast when it counts. → If you enter a negotiation with one buyer and one LOI, you have no leverage. The understanding of the process and its execution matters more than you think. Thanks to Lautaro Schiaffino, Adam Garfield, and Johanna Mikkola for sharing the real story. And to Lazo for building the kind of event where these conversations actually happen. #MiamiTechWeek #MergersAndAcquisitions #Startups #Adquiere

Johanna Mikkola liked thisJohanna Mikkola liked thisI was the kid the football team copied homework from. Twenty years later I am still doing the homework, and enough of you asked for it that I put it all in one place. The Frontier Membership is open. Inside there are monthly live AMAs with me, sessions with founders and investors from my network, and Source Material. That last one surprised me. I asked the waitlist what they wanted before I built this, and the sources are what they asked for most. So Source Material goes out every week. The stories that actually mattered, with every source sitting underneath them. The articles, the filings, the white papers behind each video I make. The videos tell you what happened. Source Material hands you the homework. The first 100 members lock the founding rate, and it stays locked as long as you stay. Link in the comments.

Johanna Mikkola liked thisJohanna Mikkola liked thisWhen speaking about the rise of Miami's art scene, my dear friend Alberto Ibarguen often says “It’s not what I expected, but it’s exactly what I imagined." When Alberto became president of the Knight Foundation, Knight started investing in the arts in earnest. It backed artists, institutions and ideas all over the city. Nobody at Knight drew up a blueprint for what Miamis art scene would become, and nobody could have. What grew was bigger, more vibrant and more Miami than any plan would have produced. That was his point. Cities are complex systems, and so are the things that change them. You can set out to do one specific thing, and it will evolve to take on its own life. So you invest in a direction you believe in. Then you leave room for people's creativity, their contributions, and the random sparks that make a place come alive. Carnegie Mellon University's arrival in Miami today is historic, and it will change our city's trajectory. It's also the kind of future so many Miamians have imagined, even if none of us could have predicted it would come in exactly this way. Miami has always been shaped by people with big dreams and a stubborn refusal to quit. It started with early believers like Julia Tuttle, Mary Brickell and George Merrick. It carried on through leaders like Alvah Chapman, Maurice Ferre, Manny Diaz, Ruth Shack, David Lawrence Jr., Norman Braman, Leonard Miller, Adrienne Arsht, Jorge Pérez, Tony Goldman, Manny Medina and, of course, Alberto - to name a few of many distinguished Miamians. Ken's belief in Miami and in our country, and his remarkable generosity, build on decades of that kind of leadership. As he put it, "the opportunity to bring Carnegie Mellon to Miami places our city at the heart of humanistic and scientific advancement." It's an honor to count on his leadership at the Partnership for Miami. Days like today show whats possible when we invest in Miamis future. They also remind us that building a great city is never finished. Every generation has to take up the work. My full reflections: https://lnkd.in/e-v6pDyk“It’s Not What I Expected, But It’s Exactly What I Imagined”“It’s Not What I Expected, But It’s Exactly What I Imagined”

Johanna Mikkola reacted on thisJohanna Mikkola reacted on thisEvery once in a while, a community has a moment so big you know you'll remember where you were when you heard the news. This is one of those moments. Today, Ken Griffin announced one of the largest philanthropic gifts in American history: $3 billion to build a Carnegie Mellon University campus right here in Miami. Billion with a B. The headlines will focus on the number. What excites me most is the momentum it builds. This campus will draw world-class faculty, researchers, and entrepreneurs from around the globe. It will give young people who grew up here a powerful path into technology, engineering, and science without leaving home. And it will keep our brightest minds here: to live, to build, to invent. But the momentum goes far beyond the impact of Carnegie Mellon itself. Serious investments are magnets of opportunity. They attract others to consider their own legacies, and they raise the scale in which people dream about what they could solve or build within a community. Consider the other bold places where deep investments will be catalytic. This investment raises the philanthropic frequency in Miami and will undoubtedly spark more catalytic ideas to come. Ken, thank you for betting big on Miami. Thank you to Carnegie Mellon for choosing us. 💜 And thank you to the dreamers and builders who will use this moment to expand access and opportunity for all who call Miami home. Miami has long been known for its culture, creativity, climate, and connection to the world. Increasingly, were known for something more: our generosity. This may be the biggest gift in our history, but it lands on ground weve been tending for decades: 🏆 The first funding stream in America dedicated to homelessness, powering our Homeless Trust for 30 years 🏆 The Children's Trust, one of the nations largest dedicated funds for kids 🏆 Give Miami Day, powered by my incredible team at The Miami Foundation: the nations largest single-city giving day, with $43M+ from 120,000 donations last year 🏆 Generations of philanthropic families behind our hospitals, universities, museums, parks, faith institutions, food banks, and shelters What makes me proudest? In the same season we celebrate a $3 billion gift, well also see hundreds of thousands of $25 donations on Give Miami Day. Every one reflects the true culture of this place. Now comes the harder, more exciting part: weaving this campus into the fabric of our community. Clear pathways from our public schools and Miami Dade College into its labs. Deep friendship across our extraordinary institutions. Residents in every neighborhood feeling that it belongs to them, too. This gorgeous, young city is being shaped right in front of our eyes. Every one of us gets a say in the values that will define us as we rise. Miamis future isnt something that happens to us. Its something we build together, whether you give $3 billion or $25. 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞. 🪩💜
