the zero employee company gets all the headlines. Polsia, $6M ARR, one founder. but the real play is the hybrid. agents handling 80% of functional work, humans making judgment calls on the 20% that compounds. established companies that don't figure this out in the next 18 months are building on sand.

Lomax Ward, General Partner OUTSIZED VENTURES on micro funds vs mega funds: "My abiding principle now in venture is I just play my own game. I don't care what other people think, I don't care how other people invest." "We think a $20 million fund is the perfect fund to put yourself in a position to minimum 5x gross that fund, so to turn the 20 into 100, ideally more." "What is not possible is returning those kind of numbers with 100 mil, 200 mil, 300 mil funds. It was very, very difficult, materially hard." VENTURES is made possible by Nusmark & PLUGGED

Excited to join Midday Connect tomorrow to talk broadly about how investors actually think when evaluating founders and companies and what we think about Symphonic Capital! If you can't make it, I recently wrote about what we look for specifically—how we back AI companies closing gaps in healthcare, finance, and workforce. Written with stories from four of our portfolio founders. Read "AI as Infrastructure" here: https://lnkd.in/eDNqG7K2

Stop looking for ‘growth opportunities.’ Buy boring cash cows and do literally nothing. Every searcher pitches investors the same story: “This business does $2M EBITDA, but there’s MASSIVE upside. I’ll add e-commerce. Build a sales team. Expand nationally. We can 3x this.” Investors love it. You get funded. You close the deal. Then you destroy a perfectly good business. Here’s what actually happens: You buy a stable $2M EBITDA company. Boring. Profitable. Printing cash for a decade. Day 1, you show up with your growth plan and your MBA frameworks. You launch e-commerce. Nobody buys. You hire salespeople. They burn $300K and quit. You “upgrade” operations. Customers hate it. 18 months later: $1.5M EBITDA and falling. Congrats. You MBA’d a cash cow into a dumpster fire. The brutal truth? The best returns in search come from buying great businesses and not touching them. But “I’m going to maintain what’s working” doesn’t sound sexy in your deck. So you pitch growth. Because growth sounds like vision. Like ambition. Here’s the actual math: Your Growth Plan: - Buy at 4x on $2M = $8M - Burn $500K on initiatives - Maybe hit $2.5M EBITDA - Sell at 5x = $12.5M - ROI: Mediocre The Boring Play: - Buy at 4x on $2M = $8M - Change nothing - Collect $2M/year - Pay down debt - Five years later: own a $2M/year printer free and clear - ROI: You’re rich How to spot businesses that don’t need your genius: Stable revenue for 5+ years (not growing, not dying) High repeat customers (they keep buying without being sold) Owner works part-time (it runs itself) Boring industry (nobody’s disrupting porta-potties) If you’re in diligence thinking “I could improve this” - you’re the problem. Ask instead: “Could I run this exactly as-is and win?” Yes? Buy it. Don’t be a hero. No? Pass. You’re not as smart as you think. Your job isn’t to be a visionary. It’s to not destroy something that works. The richest searchers bought boring businesses and changed nothing. The broke ones bought boring businesses and optimized them into the ground.

Most people do not understand AI. ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and Gemini are all elite. Just in different ways. But none of them are business specialists. They can help you monetize. They cannot think like an operator whose money and reputation are on the line. So I built JT1. Just in Time AI. The most advanced business knowledge LLM backed by powerful business system commands. Then I asked the obvious question. Why are people using 4 AI websites with 0 shared memory? That is friction. So I combined the Big 4, JT1, and your brain into 1 command center. Power 5. 1 place. 1 memory. 1 operating system that compounds decisions and builds vectors over time. Then that intelligence trains AI Employees so execution stops breaking. And instead of paying 100 dollars plus per month across tools, you can access all of it for as low as 70 cents a day. If you want to try it, link is in my profile. Thoughts?
