Most people saw a Super Bowl MVP doing a feel-good youth sports deal. What actually happened: Brand Velocity Group, where Manning is a partner, acquired RCX Sports, the first deal for BVG Sports, the firm's new sports vertical. RCX operates the official entry point for every major North American league: NFL Flag Jr., NBA Jr., WNBA, MLS Go, NHL Street, and MLB Pitch Hit & Run. Founded in 2019 by former NFL safety Izell Reese with just NFL FLAG, it has now become the licensing and operating layer for the entire pipeline. One month before this deal, lawmakers introduced a bill to ban private equity from youth sports; a response to soaring costs in the travel and club tier. Manning's pitch goes the other direction: "It's very much more access, keeping the prices low, and just growing this." BVG already owns equipment maker SCORE Sports. Now it owns league operations. The athlete investors on the cap table are Manning, Emmitt Smith, Larry Fitzgerald, and Jameis Winston. That $47.9 million roster number you keep seeing shared across social media needs an explanation. These totals are built from two sources. The first is revenue sharing. Under the House v. NCAA settlement, schools can now distribute up to approximately $20.5 million per year directly to their athletes from athletic department revenue. This is real money coming directly from the school to the player. The second source is NIL compensation, which includes collective deals funded by boosters, brand endorsement contracts, and any additional name, image, and likeness income an athlete earns independently. Stack both of those income streams across every scholarship player on an 85-man roster and you arrive at numbers like $36 million, $43 million, and $47 million. But the number that matters most is not the roster total. It is the individual allocation. That $47.9 million is not divided equally. A starting quarterback or a projected first round draft pick is commanding anywhere from $4 to $7 million of that total. A rotational player or a depth piece may be receiving $75,000 to $200,000. Both athletes are counted in the same headline number. Only one of them is reflected by it. For the scholar-athlete, this means your market value within a program’s roster hierarchy determines your real number, not the school’s total spend. For guardians and families, this means the graphic is context, not a contract. For agents and representation, this means your job is to know exactly where your client sits inside that distribution before any conversation with a program begins. The roster total tells you what the program is willing to spend. Your job is to understand what they are willing to spend on yours.
