While challenging, the exercise pushes them to put words to the unique strengths, values, and perspectives they bring to the people and teams around them. Twenty-six interns. Twenty-six different stories. Not a single statement sounded the same. It's a great reminder that the most valuable thing any of us can bring to a team isn't being a copy of someone else. It's having the confidence to understand and communicate what makes each of us uniquely valuable.

I won't pretend to fully understand everything they do yet, but that's part of the fun! Every conversation uncovers another way they're helping our teams work smarter, solve problems differently, and create value in the field. Grateful to Katherine Barnes (Boumenot), Trevor Jones, Thomas Majkowski Jr, and Clint Ledford for being a team that has welcomed me into their world. Looking forward to more learning, more discovery, and more opportunities to amplify the great work they're doing. We're not always aligned on golf performance, but we're headed in the same direction when it comes to innovation.

2026 Construction Outlook - Carolinas The latest AGC Construction Outlook highlights a year of optimism and opportunity, and for those of us in mechanical construction, the trends are especially encouraging. According to the 2026 AGC Construction Hiring & Business Outlook, contractors are seeing strong demand across nearly every public‑sector segment, including water, sewer, and power projects, three areas where mechanical contractors play a critical role. Even more telling: 18% of firms report new federally funded infrastructure work, double the previous year. This surge is driving new project opportunities in energy systems, process piping, industrial facilities, and mission‑critical infrastructure. At the same time, the industry continues to grapple with skilled labor shortages and rising labor costs, with 62% of contractors citing workforce issues as one of their biggest concerns. For mechanical trades—where precision, safety, and technical expertise are non‑negotiable—this reinforces the importance of investing in workforce development and productivity‑boosting technology. The AGC report also highlights growing momentum in technology investment, particularly AI‑driven tools that streamline planning, estimation, and field coordination. Mechanical contractors who embrace these solutions will be better positioned to deliver on tightening schedules and complex system requirements. 2026 is shaping up to be a year of accelerated growth for mechanical construction.
