Lisa Bridgers reacted on thisLisa Bridgers reacted on thisLet’s catch up on the most amazing time I’ve had at VML!✨✨✨ I spent the past few months with the Walmart Mondelēz International team in the Rogers office, providing account support, building Agentic agents, and trying fun OREO flavors along the way! I can’t thank the duo, Amber Wilichowski and Tatum Meyer, enough for their guidance throughout the summer. The team, including Lexi Rivera, Mary Kathryn Brengard, and Melania A. Vargas, has had such a huge influence on my experience at VML. To wrap up the summer, I was part of an intern team that competed in a two-week pitch sprint. Karissa Wichmann, Abigail Roberts, Francisco Aguilar Gonzalez, Dawson Thomas, Joseph Biundo, and I made a digital-first campaign to drive the future of Chips Ahoy! with Gen-Z. I am so proud of our team’s hard work and everything we were able to create in such a short amount of time! Everyone I have met through VML has been incredibly welcoming and has pushed me to succeed. Becka Vigorito has cheered me on since day one, and I am so thankful to have her in my corner. Tatum Meyer made my internship so memorable and special, and I’m lucky to know her! Thank you to Melissa Charney for making the hiring process such a positive experience. Now, on to my next chapter within VML!🎉 I am so excited to be joining the Tennessee Tourism team in the Nashville office as an Associate Account Manager! Thank you to Jenna Pate, Bailey Klutts, and Mollie Davidson for welcoming me to the team. Transitioning from being a tourist in my favorite city to promoting tourism for the state is truly a dream come true! So excited for this next chapter!🤠

When I look back at how much this industry has changed over the last 20 years — from the technology we use to the massive global scale of our connected network today — it’s honestly mind-blowing. But what absolutely hasn’t changed is the fact that I continue to work with wonderful creatives, and we have the shared belief that what we do only matters if it connects with people on a human level. I’ve had a front-row seat to some of the most innovative, boundary-pushing work in the world. I’ve watched our teams navigate incredible industry shifts, merge brilliant legacy agencies, and bring home countless Cannes Lions. But my absolute favorite part of the last two decades has been the privilege of working alongside some of the smartest, most courageous creative minds in the business, especially Jon Cook, Debbi Vandeven, and our entire global creative leadership team. We always talk about bringing brains, heart, and courage to the work we do. For the past 20 years, I’ve tried to bring that to my various roles every single day. Thank you to everyone at VML (and beyond!) who has been a part of this wild, wonderful ride. Here’s to another semester! Amanda Bailey, my 2009 #rapertmktg student, brought the Values Project to me in 2020. I was hesitant to jump in. I knew the content was important and it also synced so well with much of our discussion in the class related to how companies pursue competitive advantage, establish core competencies, understand strategic direction. But…it was well out of my comfort zone to translate that to the personal level: personal branding, strategies, competencies, and values. My trust in Amanda is what made me say yes. And I am so very grateful that I did! For many of us in academia, we chase a goal of creating learning opportunities that have a long-term ripple effect on our students. I know the specific tactics and concepts I am teaching about most days will be obsolete in 5 years – the business world changes with such velocity. But Amanda has created a solid process that requires deep reflection, an ability to defend what is important to you, and the creation of deliverables that my students can carry with them into the workplace and beyond. My favorite day of the Values Project process is today - the share group sessions with four amazing executives: · Amanda Bailey, Chief Client Officer (VML) · Chance Chapman, EVP of Innovation, Growth, Retail Media, Marketplace, and eRetail (VML) · Hannah Brunner, Senior Director of Brand Marketing (Tyson Foods) · Aliaksandr Viatrov, SVP Managing Director of (VML) These generous individuals have each reviewed the work of 16 students and are spending over three hours on campus meeting in small group sessions with them. As important as the process and content is, equally important is that my students will witness first-hand the investment of time and heart that total strangers are willing to make in them. There couldn’t be a more important learning than that. I also want to thank our past Values Project execs: Jeff Metzner has been with this since the very first, Ashley Huffman helped for several semesters, and Holly Bourland was a great addition last year. I love the advice they shared as they kicked off the day: Be present. Be vulnerable. Tightest is truest. You will be paid for two things: the responsibility you take and the value you bring. Be brave and stand out in the sea of same. Thank you to Amanda, Chance, Hannah, and Sasha for all you that you do. Two sections of students every semester, time and again. And thank you to the hundreds of #rapertmktg students who have navigated this Values Project journey with intentionality.

For years, we've watched retail media continue to fragment often operating on the promise of "closed-loop data" rather than verifiable, standardized results. In 2025, with IAB's new Commerce Media Standards going live, we're seeing the inevitable fallout: brand satisfaction with RMN transparency has plummeted from 66% to 44%. The market is demanding accountability. Brands are done asking for proprietary dashboards; they're demanding shared, IAB-aligned proof. Retail media can often feel like a tax on CPG brands. In theory, retail media was supposed to drive incremental growth. In reality, many brands are using it just to defend the digital shelf. If you don’t sponsor the placement…If you don’t bid on the keyword…If you don’t fund the retailer program… You disappear. So budgets keep shifting from brand building into retail media just to maintain visibility with shoppers who are already inside the retailer’s ecosystem. Great business for retailers. Much harder math for brands. Retail media isn’t going away - and it absolutely has a role. PR & Corporate Affairs Pros: Per Golin’s latest CEO Impact Index (Oct 30, 2025): A new wave of data is shifting how we think about executive engagement. The "Great Rethink" reports a dramatic retreat in top-executive visibility in H1 2025: earned media mentions dropped ~30% among Fortune 250 CEOs, yet their LINKEDIN ACTIVITY and event engagement rose. Less quantity, more intention, and a focus on OWNED over earned media when it comes to leadership communications. What does this mean for us in PR/Comms? We’re architects of executive narrative around complexity and risk. Our job is shifting toward helping leadership decide when to speak, how, why and where (Hi, LinkedIn!). As one practitioner put it: “Corporate Affairs is experiencing its most pivotal moment in decades.” In a world of regulatory, technological and social turbulence, visibility without strategy = vulnerability. Three shifts to lean into today: -From “public for the sake of public” → “public with purpose.” -Your CEO or CCO voice should only hit the stage when it advances a clear strategic narrative, not just because “we always do.” -From solo media placements → controlled ecosystems. With event appearances rising and media exposure falling, owned channels + carefully curated external forums are making headway. -From storytelling to story-shaping across stakeholders. It’s no longer about broadcasting to press. It’s about aligning investor, regulator, employee, community, and brand expectations all in one narrative. If your playbook says “get CEO on as many bylines and panels as possible,” it’s time for a refresh. So ask yourself today: Are we helping our leaders overtly engage in the right moments, or are we still chasing visibility for its own sake? And from a recruiting seat, the searches I’m working on are asking for this exact skill set. If you can speak C-suite, shape narrative, and position leadership intelligently across platforms, you're already ahead.
