King reposted thisI don't recall Donald Trump explicitly running on a platform calling to destroy the American library system, but by moving to eliminate the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS), he has begun to do precisely that. For him to have run on that platform would have been unwise, since a 2024 survey from YouGov found that 85% of respondents had a favorable opinion of public libraries, and 53% said public libraries were very important. Furthermore, a recent American Library Association survey found that 54% of Gen Z and Millennials had visited a library in the past year. Funding from the IMLS, whose budget makes up .0046% of the federal budget, helps fund libraries of all kinds in America: public libraries, college and university libraries, library consortia, special libraries and archives, and more. In fact, here in Illinois, IMLS funds help to pay for delivery of books and other materials between libraries throughout the state: if your library doesn't have a book, requesting a copy via interlibrary loan will get it in your hands in a matter of days, even if it goes from one end of the state to another. Without the IMLS, America's library system stands in great danger of systemic failure. Programs and services will undoubtedly be cut, and libraries that are already barely getting by on budgets that haven't seen an increase in decades are at risk of closing. If you value the many ways libraries make our country great, call or write to your congresspeople, and tell them that you oppose the destruction of IMLS. And, if there is a local election in your area, vote for public library trustees that value the missions of the libraries that serve their communities and want to ensure they have necessary support to remain the vibrant centers for the free exchange of information and enrichment that they have always been.The Institute for Museum and Library Services Was Just GuttedThe Institute for Museum and Library Services Was Just Gutted

Kennedy Jr. to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is our hope that RFK Jr. stands on what he promised during his testimony and prioritizes making America healthier, rather than sowing distrust. More energy should be spent on developing evidence-based solutions to address our most pressing health issues, instead of discrediting proven methods that save lives. The health secretary must put the American people first so that all can have optimal health and live a full life. This medication saved my life. After five psychiatric hospitalizations in ten months, it was the only treatment that stabilized me. Thanks to this long-acting injectable antipsychotic, I’ve lived independently and thrived in the highest-level, full-time role of my life for over a year and a half—achievements many once said were impossible for me. But my insurance company doesn’t see my stability as a worthwhile investment. If they don’t come through, I could lose everything I’ve worked so hard to build. I’m sharing this nightmare because our broken healthcare system fails far too many people with schizophrenia. Living with such a challenging condition makes it incredibly hard to self-advocate, leaving us at the mercy of an industry that values profits over lives. When we’re denied access to essential treatments, we’re more likely to spiral into psychosis. And then, society blames US—ostracizing us as burdens instead of recognizing the systemic failures at play. One day, when this situation is resolved and my mental health is more stable, I’ll write about this in depth. But for now, I need to conserve my energy, so this post will have to do. Here’s the truth: We will never know the full potential of people with schizophrenia until the healthcare system starts valuing us as individuals. The false, stigmatizing belief that we’re all “lost causes” justifies chronic underfunding of schizophrenia research and treatment, robbing us of opportunities to recover and thrive. Please join me in raising awareness of the barriers people with schizophrenia face just to survive. They are trying to take away our librarian's professional status in this state. This is a grave mistake. If you have any questions about this, please reach out. The implications are that the state, county, and local governments will totally control your access to information--not just books. This is far more than just books. Librarians are specifically trained to represent their communities in a balanced mindful way. This includes the media specialists in your children's school and especially your public librarians. Libraries are a bastion for democracy. Information is power, and power is money/influence. What is next? Your access to credible information will be taken away.

King liked thisI need people to understand what is really happening in the Caribbean right now — because I am connected to this region in my spirit and in my lived experience. I have sat on a bed in Arima, Trinidad, waiting anxiously for my late husband, Daniel, to return home after a long night out on those same waters. I know the rhythm of the fishing boats. I know the smell of the sea. I know the fear that rises in your chest when the hours pass and you haven’t heard from the person you love. And today, bodies are washing up on the shores of Trinidad. Families are missing their loved ones. Entire communities are grieving. What’s happening is illegal, inhumane, and absolutely not what people are being told it is. This is about power and money — not drugs. Before anyone repeats talking points about “bombing fishing boats” or “stopping fentanyl from Venezuela,” here are the actual facts: 🔹 Distance: The closest point between Venezuela and the United States is 1,073 miles — over a thousand miles of open ocean. 🔹 Fishing boats: A typical fishing boat would need 6–12 full tanks of fuel to even attempt that trip. It is not a realistic trafficking route. It’s not even physically practical. 🔹 How much fentanyl comes from Venezuela? Virtually none. Venezuela is not a source country for fentanyl entering the United States. 🔹 Where U.S. fentanyl actually comes from: • China supplies most precursor chemicals • Mexico manufactures the illicit fentanyl • Fentanyl enters the U.S. mostly through land ports of entry, hidden in vehicles — not fishing boats So let’s be clear: The idea that Venezuelan fishing boats are flooding the U.S. with fentanyl is not just wrong — it is physically impossible. And while these myths spread, real human beings are dying in Caribbean waters. Real families are being destroyed. Real communities — ones I know, ones I love — are left to mourn without answers. If we’re serious about solving the fentanyl crisis, we must start with facts, not fear. With humanity, not scapegoating. With truth, not manufactured narratives meant to justify violence. The Caribbean deserves better. Our people deserve better. Humanity deserves better.

Lori M. King liked thisNothing in this world is absolute and there's effectively no way to prove that anything has absolutely zero chance of an association with something else. We look at the totality of data and make conclusions based on the certainty of the evidence, which in this case clearly demonstrates that vaccines are NOT associated with autism. It is true that we can't "rule out [any and all] possibility" but that's so misleading because of course we can't. We also can't rule out the possibility that the internet causes autism, that social media use by parents causes autism, or that any number of things that have risen over the past few decades is to blame. It's sad that we can no longer trust sources like the CDC, FDA, HHS. Please get your information from trustworthy sources or your healthcare providers.Lori M. King liked thisIf you still think we need more "evidence" that vaccines don't cause autism, you likely also need more evidence that the earth is round and that evolution is real. The data are clear and compelling...Vaccines do not cause autism.

This is another demonstration of such shown by a doctor known to be on the wrong side of COVID vaccines… As stated by her, directly « Although a small sample (4 patients as a reminder), these findings may suggest a potential mechanism for post-vaccination complications; however, no subjects in the study demonstrated significant complications. » So, what is the point here ? A transient change in microbiome ? And no more ? Especially that normal levels of Bifidobacterium are between 2 and 14% making a 1% simple variation not to be too concerned about ? https://lnkd.in/eC3_HhJt
