Madeline Thomas shared thisI'm super excited to share that after 2 fun years of building and scaling the marketing team at 9fin, I've joined Capsa AI as Head of Marketing! Capsa is the AI operating system for private capital — already live with clients managing over $1tn in AUM, with 70% of users on the platform weekly. It gives funds a compounding institutional memory, so judgment calls are backed by the fund's own track record, not a generic model trained on the open internet, and the system gets sharper with every deal. Capsa just raised an $18M Series A and we're hiring across the board in London and New York — and the marketing team will be growing next quarter too! Check out our open roles — linked in the comments. Looking forward to working closely with Nina Narayan, Danyal Özdüzenciler, Callum Downie, Jack Fisher and the rest of the team! More to come! ⚡

Madeline Thomas reposted thisMadeline Thomas reposted thisA big milestone for 9fin today 🚀 We're launching AI Chat and Research Grid: two products that help debt market professionals move from question to conviction faster, with every output grounded in trusted debt market intelligence and linked back to source. 🔎 AI Chat provides cited answers to complex credit questions in seconds. 📊 Research Grid enables structured company comparisons in minutes. For the last decade, we've focused on making debt market intelligence more accessible. As we've solved that problem, a new bottleneck has emerged: turning information into decisions. 🔮 That's what 9fin AI is designed to solve. This launch is the first step in a much bigger vision: transforming 9fin from a source of intelligence into the platform where credit professionals get work done. Excited for what's next. Huge thanks to the team that made it happen 🙌 https://lnkd.in/eGhMubbU #AI #PrivateCredit #LeveragedFinance #CreditMarkets #DistressedDebt #LevFin

Madeline Thomas liked thisMadeline Thomas liked thisGreat to attend the first Claude Founder House in London last week. I joined a panel with Georgia Stevenson, Partner at Index Ventures, moderated by Aiden Blake, Head of Startups EMEA at Anthropic. Here’s three takeaways from our discussion on fundraising and the much-discussed question of moats in the AI era: 1️⃣ Use the acceleration to do more for your customer Aiden asked what happens to software moats when building the thing is no longer the barrier. I said… good! I’m glad of the acceleration in software. The question now becomes: what can we continuously learn, improve or deliver faster than our competitors? For me, that starts with customers: getting their feedback, acting on it and making the product better, again and again. 2️⃣ Be clear about where your value comes from On differentiation, my view is you have to detach your value from the model. Detach the cost, detach the model itself, and detach even how you communicate to your customers from it. Focus on the problem you solve for customers and demonstrate how well you solve it. At 9fin, the value doesn’t come from the latest model. It comes from understanding our customers’ problems and combining AI with proprietary credit data and deep domain expertise to solve them. Customers consistently tell us our AI produces the best outputs for their work. That is what matters. 3️⃣ And on a more personal note: community! Everything has been moving so fast for the last couple of years, it has been tough (but fun) to keep up! This has meant everyone has been building at breakneck speed, maybe in our own spaces, us included. But to be in a warehouse space in Shoreditch surrounded by founders, entrepreneurs and builders. That's the London start-up scene I remember. The community is so back.

Madeline Thomas liked thisMadeline Thomas liked thisSpoke on the Series A panel at Antler's European Founder Conference in London last week. Most of it was about what actually works when you run a raise. Four things I would pass on: Run a tight process with hard deadlines you set. First meetings in one window, partner meetings in the next, term sheets by a date you name. Investors will move on your timeline if you give them one. A process that drifts becomes a signal in itself, and they read that signal faster than you do. Pivot the narrative on market feedback. Your first deck is a hypothesis. If the same objection lands in three meetings, that's data, not bad luck. Change the story rather than defending it. Create urgency through growth. Keep shipping while the process is live and send updates as it happens. New logo, new number, new hire. A company that is visibly compounding week to week applies more pressure than any pitch. Sell why you are the best team in the world to win this. Every investor you meet has already seen a company that looks like yours. The question they are really asking is why this team, and you have to answer it head on. Antler has backed Capsa since the UK cohort where Callum and I met, through the US expansion and the $18M Series A this year. Thanks to Philip W. Braddock, Anarghya Vardhana and Georgy Egorov for the conversation, and to Tobias Bengtsdahl for moderating.

Madeline Thomas liked thisMadeline Thomas liked thisOpenAI launching ChatGPT for Financial Services is a good signal for anyone building in this space. It confirms the workflow (research, analysis, modeling, deliverable) is where the value actually sits. But collapsing that workflow only works if every number in the deck can be traced back to its source, including the firm's own institutional knowledge sitting in SharePoint, deal files, and years of prior work. For multi-strategy firms, where PE, credit, real assets, and public markets all touch the same document, it's a data structuring problem before it's ever a generation problem. That's the layer we've built Capsa around: pulling from a firm's own institutional knowledge inside a secure, compliant system, with source level traceability, access control, and audit trails that hold up in a due diligence review, not just a demo. Speed on its own was never the hard part. ⚡ Want to see for yourself? Schedule your customized demo here: https://capsa.ai/contact

Madeline Thomas liked thisMadeline Thomas liked thisIt's hard to leave a role you love at a company you've put everything into, especially when it's at the top of its game. But that's exactly what I'm doing at the end of this month. 9fin has been the absolute highlight of my career so far and I'm wildly proud of everything we've achieved over the last 4.5 years. From 50 people in one location, to 600+ across six global offices. I built the people and operating foundations from scratch, helped take the company through multiple funding rounds (including to unicorn status 🦄), and led us through an acquisition along the way. Right up to my final months, we were still moving fast - standing up two new offices in Chile and Malaysia in a matter of weeks. Through the ups and downs, the team has been the one constant. I've worked alongside outstanding people: the ones who showed up for each other on the hard days, and the ones who proved candour and care can coexist - the honest feedback, upwards, downwards, sideways, that never let me settle for anything less than my best. I'm also proud to have championed working parents at 9fin: making it normal to show up with multiple priorities and to parent out loud, not around the edges of the working day. My own reset has always been my family and I wanted 9fin to be a place where showing up as a whole person was normal. I'll be watching with pride as 9fin continues to go from strength to strength. While it's hard to say goodbye, the timing is right as something very exciting is coming.

Madeline Thomas liked thisMadeline Thomas liked thisThere’s something slightly ironic about spending so much time talking about implementing and using AI, only to be reminded that some of the hardest things to get right at work are still very human and therefore not predictable.. at all! We brought our DDEP leadership team together to understand our behavioural preferences - where we have strengths, blind spots, and what that means for how we communicate, challenge and make decisions as we scale. It was a good reminder that high performing teams aren’t just a collection of high performing individuals. Understanding how you work together matters just as much. Of course, we did also find an AI use 😅 give Claude context on someone’s working and communication style and suddenly you’ve got a pretty useful sounding board for how best to work with them!
