Marc Pearce reposted thisMarc Pearce reposted thisAATB recently submitted comments to CMS on the CY 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule and payment policies for skin substitutes. Building on our comments on the CY 2027 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System proposed rule, AATB reiterated concerns that current reimbursement rates are unsustainable and could negatively impact patient access, particularly in rural areas. We urged CMS to revise its payment methodology, change its geographic adjustment policy, and implement an inflationary update to limit annual spending increases while preserving the long-term availability of these important products. The full letter is available on the Government Advocacy Correspondence page of the AATB website. https://bit.ly/3RYqH8L

Marc Pearce reposted thisMarc Pearce reposted thisAATB submitted a letter to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today sharing our members’ experiences with the Tissue Reference Group (TRG). Since our first survey in 2022, the average TRG response time has nearly doubled and is now nearly five times longer than FDA’s stated goal of 60 days. AATB’s letter offers recommendations for both the FDA and our members that we believe could help improve transparency and help facilitate more timely responses. The full letter can be found on the Government Advocacy Correspondences page of the AATB website https://bit.ly/3RYqH8L

Marc Pearce liked thisMarc Pearce liked thisI’m honored to be speaking at the Association for Advancing Tissue and Biologics Congress in San Francisco next week! My session, “When the World Moves On: The Power of Donor Family Grief Support,” will be a conversation about donor family grief, the importance of feeling seen and supported, and the difference that kind of support can make. When my daughter Taylor became an organ and tissue donor at just 13 years old, my family was navigating the devastating loss while also knowing that her gifts would save and improve the lives of others. Walking through that experience changed the direction of my life. I’m looking forward to sharing Taylor’s story and exploring how we, as a donation and transplantation community, can better support donor families as they navigate their grief. I’ll be speaking Tuesday, October 6 at 1:00 p.m. If you’re attending the Congress, I’d love for you to join me and be part of the conversation. Marc Pearce reacted on thisMarc Pearce reacted on thisI wanted to share a very special award celebration I was blessed to attend for one of my teammates. AMAT, or Association for Multicultural Affairs in Transplantation, is a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting organ, eye, and tissue donation awareness within diverse and multicultural communities. They host a yearly national conference and this year it was in Milwaukee. The theme was "Igniting Hope: Uniting Voices for a Stronger Donation and Transplantation Future." A few weeks ago, I was notified that one of our nurses, Mayra A, was selected by the AMAT Planning Committee as the 2026 AMAT DAISY Award recipient. They noted "Mayra’s nomination highlighted the extraordinary compassion she demonstrated while caring for a patient and family during a DCD case. In addition to caring for the patient and managing the responsibilities associated with the donation process, Mayra spent time helping the patient’s 8-year-old son understand what was happening, and returned on her day off to be there for the family. Following the patient’s passing, she made a point to personally return to the family to offer her condolences. The family expressed how grateful they were to have Mayra with them during such a difficult experience." At St. Luke's, being a DAISY award nominee/recipient is such an incredible honor....being a NATIONAL DAISY award recipient is something that very few people can say they have! Out of all the submissions from across the country, they chose YOU and your incredible efforts in this donation case, Mayra! You are a tremendous nurse and a genuinely amazing human being. We are lucky to have you here at St. Luke's as well as in MRICU!! 💕👏🏽🙏🏽 Versiti Inc. Aurora Health Care Advocate Health The DAISY Foundation
