Martha Hennigan reposted thisMartha Hennigan reposted thisEvery "Safety First" poster in your plant keeps telling a lie to everyone on site. A new operator once asked me a question. I didn't have a good answer right away. We'd just wrapped the safety meeting. The "Safety First" sign was on the wall behind me. He asked why we don't just stop doing risky jobs. If safety really comes first. I just looked at him and laughed it off. Then I thought about it for the rest of the day. Because he was right. If safety were actually first. We wouldn't energize lines. We wouldn't send crews up towers. We wouldn't run compressors We do those jobs anyway, Because the work has to get done. I found that new operator. Later that day, I said. Every operation that matters. Carries risk we choose to accept. Safety was never meant to be first; It’s meant to be disciplined integration. Built into how a job gets planned. Built into how it gets engineered. Built into how a leader decides to run it. Not stacked on top of production. Like a rule everyone agrees to ignore under pressure. The strongest operations don’t ask what comes first. They ask a harder question. How do we get the job done? Without exposing someone to unacceptable risk? That operator runs his own crew now. And if one of his new hires asked him. The same question tomorrow, I know exactly what he'd say. Tell me about the moment your operation stopped treating safety as a slogan and started building it into how the work actually gets planned. I want to hear what changed. ♻️ Repost if this post is worth being shared. 💾 Save as a resource for your next toolbox talk. ➕ For more safety leadership content like this, follow me.

Martha Hennigan shared thisMartha Hennigan shared thisThe most shocking ad we've tested this year: Snickers' Eulogy This one splits the crowd A great example of Snickers' reluctantly sticking with their incredible positioning around how filling their product is. They may now use "Snickers Satisfies" alongside "You're not you when you're hungry," but the idea is still the same: it's the most filling chockie bar out there. Their new ad in the US continues to stretch this idea. It really shows what the role of modern marketers is: refreshing our brands to keep them modern without tearing up the playbook. Bringing Snickers into 2026 with the mess of AI writing. However, the funeral setting (as probably expected) massively upsets some people. While others (20%) find it hilarious. Full System1 testing here: https://lnkd.in/eNG9GUqq Interestingly, the younger you are, the more acceptable you find this to be. What do you make of this new ad in one of the world's longest-running and most effective campaigns? I share #advertising and #marketing insights daily, follow for more.

Women should be able to walk to their cars, attend school, go on a date, or cross a parking lot without constantly calculating risk. Too many women grip their keys, share their location, check the back seat, watch their drinks, and look over their shoulders because too many boys and men have learned entitlement and the idea that boundaries are negotiable. We need to ask a harder question: What are we teaching our boys? This starts long before college. It starts at home and continues through school, sports, social media, locker rooms, dating culture, fraternities, and workplaces. Parents, schools, coaches, universities, and men themselves all have a responsibility. Yes, teach girls how to protect themselves. But why should so much of the burden fall on them? Teach boys that consent is required. Silence is not consent. Intoxication is not consent. Persistence is not consent. Dating someone does not create entitlement to sex. “No” means no. When someone reports sexual assault, the response matters. Police, university investigators, Title IX staff, counselors, medical professionals, coaches, and others who support survivors need recurring training in trauma-informed practices and sexual violence. One workshop is not enough. Fairness and due process matter too. A survivor deserves dignity and a competent investigation. An accused person deserves a fair process. The Epstein case showed how wealth, status, access, and influence can shield exploitation. Accountability should not depend on a name, money, university, fraternity, or athletic ability. Women should not have to organize their lives around fear. Teach our daughters to recognize danger. But spend far more time teaching our sons not to become the danger. Teach respect early. Teach consent clearly. Teach empathy. Teach boys to intervene when friends cross a line. Teach them that strength includes self-control. Women deserve to feel safe. Our boys deserve adults willing to teach them, clearly and repeatedly, what being a decent man requires.

Martha Hennigan reacted on thisMartha Hennigan reacted on thisIn 25 years of safety incident reviews, I’ve never once seen safety have the authority to fix what it gets blamed for. When a safety incident happens. The safety team is often expected to. Document it. Investigate it. Explain it. And prevent it from happening again. But many of the conditions. That created the problem sit somewhere else. Engineering controls the design. Operations controls the work. Leadership controls the schedule. The safety department can. Identify risk, Challenge assumptions. Recommend controls. But safety cannot make decisions outside its authority. Accountability without authority creates false control. When everyone believes safety owns the problem. A strong safety culture requires shared ownership. Safety should provide expertise and assurance. Leaders should own the risks created by their operations. And the people with authority to fix a problem. Should also carry responsibility for fixing it. The question after an incident shouldn’t only be. What did Safety miss? It should be: Who had the authority to change, The conditions that allowed this to happen?” Otherwise, we’re not managing risk. We’re managing blame. Where does authority actually sit in your organization when something goes wrong, not on the org chart, in practice? Tell me what you’ve seen in the comments. ♻️ Repost if this post is worth being shared. 💾 Save as a resource for your next toolbox talk. ➕ For more safety leadership content like this, follow me.

Instead, it becomes stormwater runoff, flowing across the landscape and picking up sediment, nutrients, oil, trash and other pollutants along the way. The spooky part? Once that water disappears down a storm drain, it hasn’t really disappeared. Many storm drains lead directly to nearby ditches, streams and rivers — carrying whatever runoff picked up along for the ride. 💧 During the next fall rain, investigate your property. 🔎 Where does the water go? Is it carrying soil away? Are leaves blocking a drain? Are downspouts sending water across pavement? Practices like rain gardens, native plants, bioretention and permeable paving can help slow, capture and infiltrate runoff. Learn about these and other practices in our Water Quality of Life Manual at https://lnkd.in/gEVjT7zK. And remember: keep grass clippings, leaves and debris off roads and out of storm drains. What disappears down the drain may come back to haunt our waterways! 👻🍂 #Stormwater #WaterQuality #Conservation

It has 120 apartments, with one and two bedroom homes that are between 635 and 900 square feet. Rent is only 322 dollars for those with very low income, and even the highest rent is around 1316 dollars, which is still much less than most places in Florida. To qualify, seniors must be 55 or older and have an income below certain levels, so it is made for people who really need affordable housing. The community is not just about cheap rent. It has a cyber café with internet and a kitchen, a gym for exercise, a clubhouse where people can gather, and even a dog park for pets. Everything was designed to look modern and welcoming, just like expensive apartments, so that seniors feel proud of where they live. This project gives seniors a safe and beautiful home at a price they can afford. Alonzo Mourning showed all rich people what giving back really looks like, building something that changes lives in a real and lasting way. https://lnkd.in/eCxSbSbU

A new strategy. A new digital platform. A major investment programme. A new organisational structure. But turnaround should not begin with transformation. It should begin with control. The first 100 days should focus on six things. 1. Cash. Understand the real financial position. What is billed? What is collected? What is overdue? What obligations are immediate? Without cash discipline, every other recovery plan remains fragile. 2. Water Balance. Know how much water enters the system, where it goes and where it is lost. Production. Authorised consumption. Physical losses. Commercial losses. If the utility does not understand its own water balance, it is managing the system partially blind. 3. Critical Assets. Identify the assets whose failure would create the greatest service consequence. Pumps. Transmission mains. Reservoirs. Treatment units. Control systems. Then ask, "what condition are they in, what redundancy exists, and what must be fixed first?" 4. People. Find the critical roles, the real decision-makers and the dangerous single-person dependencies. Turnaround depends on capability, not just headcount. 5. Customers. Stabilise the customer interface. Metering accuracy. Billing. Collections. Arrears. Complaints. Response times. A utility cannot recover financially or institutionally while customer processes remain unreliable. 6. Priorities. By the end of the first 100 days, management should be able to identify a short list of priorities based on, risk, service impact, financial value, urgency and deliverability. Not a hundred initiatives. A few priorities the organisation can actually execute. Only then should the wider transformation begin, digitalisation, major CAPEX, organisational redesign, long-term resilience and regulatory reform. Because a turnaround succeeds when the organisation first regains visibility, discipline and decision-making control. The goal of the first 100 days is not to solve everything. It is to make sure the utility knows, what is happening, what matters most, who owns the response and what happens next. Turnaround begins with control, not transformation. © 2026 Konstantinos Kontarakis

It is everyone who failed to report a women in an incredibly unsafe situation or put a stop to it. It is also any school that protects its reputation first. The system that asks her what she was wearing before it asked him anything at all. Women don't need another safety tip. We need men who say "stop" out loud and institutions that act before a lawsuit forces them to. There were allegedly 57 members in the Cornell group chat. We don't know how many read the messages that night. We don't know why they allegedly did nothing or worse. We do know, if the allegations are true, this is completely unacceptable. Standing here watching the competition is a great reminder of just how much knowledge, skill, and experience operators bring to the water and wastewater industry. These are the people who understand what actually happens in the field, how systems perform, where the challenges are, and what it takes to keep things running every day. It also has me thinking about something else. If you are an operator who has ever wondered what the next chapter of your career could look like, I would love to meet you while we are here at WEFTEC. There are opportunities in this industry where your operational experience and understanding of the people who make this industry work can be incredibly valuable, even if the role looks very different from what you are doing today. If that thought has ever crossed your mind, come find me. I would enjoy hearing your story and talking about what might be next. And to everyone competing today, good luck. The entire Hunter Crown, LLC team will be cheering you on. #WEFTEC #WaterIndustry #Wastewater #WaterProfessionals #Operators #Careers
