Matthew Harrington shared thisA wonderful honor to be recognized last evening with the Individual Achievement Sabre from Paul Holmes and grateful for Richard Edelman's generous post at this moment. Thought I would share my brief remarks from last night: Thank you Paul for those kind words. And congratulations to all this evening’s winners. I’m honored to accept the Sabres Individual Achievement Award. This recognition is not just a reflection of my own journey, but a testament to the collective support, guidance, and inspiration from those around me. It reminds me that our greatest accomplishments are often shaped by the people who lift us up along the way. Richard Edelman bears first mention as 42 years ago he took a shot on newly minted Denison University grad and look where that’s gotten us! Thank you Richard. I want to acknowledge longstanding colleagues in this room who aren’t just friends but have become family. And to my long-suffering wife of 40 years, Lisa, being an Edelspouse isn’t necessarily easy but I believe it certainly is interesting! A final acknowledgement to the clients with whom I’ve worked over the years and continue to do so. It is a privilege to partner with you in some of your greatest moments of achievement and to be by your side at some of your deepest challenges. I know our industry is going through a great deal of change at this moment. What sector isn’t? I am however the ultimate optimist about our future as core skills of critical thinking, understanding human connection and the intrinsic nature of storytelling should hold us in good stead. In closing, thank you for this award and for allowing me to be part of such a remarkable community. Let’s continue to champion each other and embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Matthew Harrington shared thisGreat to see this conversation among two leaders in the rapidly changing world of communications.Matthew Harrington shared thisHuge thank you to Frank X. Shaw for welcoming a few of our incredible EY communicators to Microsoft’s campus for a great conversation. Our takeaways: ✅ Best jobs. We’re in a unique position to help businesses navigate a complex and ever-changing world with confidence. By combining our pulse on the market with a panoramic view across the enterprise, we empower stakeholders to make thoughtful, informed decisions. ⌛ Big choices. Those decisions aren’t always black and white. They come with trade-offs, outcomes and next steps. It's about nuance and agility - not guaranteed perfection. 🤝 Great relationships. Yes, we talked about testing and learning with new technology, but the strategic relationships we build will never be replaced. Our visit to Microsoft was the perfect capstone to a week spent with leaders and clients from around the globe. From hands-on time in our AI lounge with Raj Sharma and Joe Depa to executing an amazing meeting with internal and external perspectives, our team once again demonstrated what great looks like. Matthew Harrington posted thisToday marks the start of the next chapter of my Edelman adventure. After joining Edelman more than 40 years ago, I’m taking a moment to reflect with deep appreciation and pride. What began as a newly minted Denison University graduate in to an entry level role in New York City evolved into a career that took me around the world — working with brilliant colleagues, bold clients, and across nearly every facet of our business. It's been a privilege to help shape Edelman’s evolution into a truly global, integrated communications firm rooted in trust and humbling to be part of its 10x growth. From leading corporate reputation work and crisis response, to building trusted client relationships across industries and borders, I’ve witnessed firsthand how communications can drive not just business outcomes, but real societal impact. I’m particularly proud of helping to grow our leadership team, learning from and mentoring talent across regions, and fostering a global mindset that will guide Edelman into its future. More than any milestone, award or campaign, it’s the people who have made this journey so meaningful. Edelman is built on a spirit of entrepreneurship, excellence and integrity — and I’ve worked alongside some of the smartest, kindest, and most committed people in the business and look forward to continuing to do so! To Richard Edelman: my continued thanks for the trust, support and partnership throughout the years, especially the last 14 as Global COO. To the teams I’ve worked with across continents: thank you for inspiring me daily. And to the next generation of Edelman leaders: your future is bright — be curious, grounded, and recognize the power of what we do. As I turn this particular page in my Edelman adventure, I’m excited about working even more closely with our clients as they navigate a moment of enormous transformation driven by a myriad of factors, from the acceleration of generative AI to shifts in geopolitics and society. I welcome the opportunity to continue bringing insights from our clients to inform our firm’s strategy for the future.

The city feels alive with people from all over the world here to experience the action and excitement. Being at the tournament this week was a great reminder that technology is at its best when it helps people connect more deeply with something they care about. That is exactly what we are focused on at the US Open: using AI to turn millions of data points into experiences that help fans get closer to the game. And, as you will see in the video, I learned what AI thinks my US Open persona is. If you are in New York, stop by Madison Square Park and give it a try yourself.

Matthew Harrington liked thisOne of the things I’ve always appreciated about Jamie's leadership is his genuine curiosity and his willingness to listen. Whether it’s employees, buyers or sellers, he consistently seeks out feedback and, more importantly, turns that feedback into action. Great conversation with Stephanie Mehta on why listening to our community continues to shape how we lead, innovate and build at eBay. And I especially love the question Jamie asks at the end of so many conversations: “What’s your advice for me?” check it out in the week's #modernCEO.Matthew Harrington liked this“Feedback is a gift.” Lots of executives profess to want feedback but Jamie Iannone, president and CEO of eBay, seems to really embrace it. In this week’s #modernCEO he speaks about the importance of listening to employees, buyers and sellers on the platform—and acting on their advice. For more on how he does it (and why) please check out this week’s newsletter. https://lnkd.in/gxY_8C9Q

Matthew Harrington liked thisMatthew Harrington liked thisAbout ten years ago, I left the Gates Foundation to pursue a career in tech. I'm delighted to be rejoining the Foundation, this time to help shape its AI communications strategy across global health and development. The last decade, across organizations including Microsoft, Google, and Edelman, taught me the same lesson in different forms: technologies that need public trust to scale earn it by making the stakes and the benefits tangible to the people affected by them. That's the challenge ahead, and I'm thrilled to be part of the effort to meet it. Meeting that challenge takes the right people around you, and that's what gives me the most confidence going in: colleagues and partners doing some of the most consequential work in the sector, at an institution whose mission I firmly believe in.

Matthew Harrington liked thisMatthew Harrington liked thisOne of the most important parts of my job is listening. Not just to the executive leadership team or the people I see every day. But to employees across the organization, at every level, every function, every geography. It makes me a better leader, and I think it puts us in a better position to succeed as a company. Some encounters arise organically, in the elevator or down in our atrium, but it helps to plan them out, too. For the past two years, for example, I’ve been having quarterly lunches with different groups of employees, around 10 at a time. Members of creative and commercial teams, new joiners and mid-career directors, retail staff and our fantastic employee resource group leaders. All are invaluable opportunities for me to take in a range of perspectives, opinions and suggestions I otherwise might not hear – about the business, about how people are feeling about their roles and futures, about things we can do better. I’d put our market and store visits in a similar category. They’re a chance to hear from the people who are closest to our fans, gather ideas from different geographies, understand how we can better serve our store teams, and see how we’re showing up to consumers around the globe. Across the lunches and market visits, I've heard suggestions that we’ve integrated into the business. There’ve been times I’ve been challenged and had to reconsider assumptions. There are constant reminders that important feedback and great ideas can come from anywhere and anyone. I’m so grateful to everyone who takes part in these gatherings, and for their candor. I truly hope they get as much out of the exchanges as I and the company do!

Matthew Harrington liked thisMatthew Harrington liked thisHi there. A few weeks ago, as I left WPP Media, I told people I was shortly going to be a Global Client Lead at a large independent agency — leading one of their largest and most important global relationships. I couldn’t say where or on what yet because comms were still flowing and it wasn’t my information to share in detail. Now, I’m proudly able to say I’m at Edelman - as MD, Global Client Lead of the Samsung relationship. The canvas is as expansive as can be. The agency and team are ridiculously strong in all the right places for where the market is (and is headed.) And the partnership between Edelman and Samsung goes back dozens of years, providing a platform for great and effective work going forward. Bring it on! 👊 Huge thanks to Smita Reddy, Matthew Harrington, Courtney McCraw Bigelow, Lisa Sepulveda, Kirsty Graham, Liz Barenholtz and Greg St. Claire for a thorough interview process that ensured this was a great move — and for such a warm welcome.

Matthew Harrington liked thisMatthew Harrington liked thisA belated thank you to my friends and former colleagues at Edelman for the opportunity to join a meaningful remembrance on the 25th anniversary of 9/11. We shared what we experienced and what we did, individually, as a company and as a city in the days, months and years that followed. A story of rebuilding that I’ve since shared with my two sons. I spoke briefly about how we supported one of our clients, Cantor Fitzgerald, in the immediate aftermath. Six hundred fifty-eight Cantor employees were in the office that morning. A quote that has been attributed to Arthur Ashe summarized, to me, our collective effort: “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” It feels especially relevant today.

I had the privilege of discussing Verizon’s national AI skills-building initiative with Verizon’s CEO Dan Schulman and New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill. Dan and Governor Sherrill discussed the future of the American economy and the importance of AI skills training to build the resilience and future of our extraordinary American workforce. They discussed the power of public-private collaboration and the opportunity for the private and public sectors to work together to empower and support people through this period of change. This work will help to ensure that technology serves the best of human potential—fueling creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial endeavors. Matthew Harrington liked thisMatthew Harrington liked thisThe longer an organization’s history, the more important one question becomes: what should change, and what should never change? Technology evolves. Industries transform. Expectations shift. Staying relevant means evolving with them. But enduring relevance also depends on knowing what makes an organization distinctive and worth carrying forward. I’ve been thinking about this as we approach October 1, when we celebrate Founder’s Day at Edelman and the entrepreneurial spirit of Dan Edelman, who founded the company 74 years ago. It’s a theme I recently explored with Lisa Sepulveda, our Global Chief People & Culture Officer, during her visit to Milan: how do we stay true to our heritage while continuing to evolve and innovate? For Edelman, part of the answer lies in the values that have travelled with us through more than seven decades: The relentless pursuit of excellence. The freedom to be constantly curious. The courage to do the right thing. The commitment to positively impact society. What strikes me is not simply that these values have endured, but how relevant they remain in a world that keeps changing. Curiosity pushes us to explore what is changing. Excellence keeps raising the standard. Courage enables us to make difficult choices. And our commitment to positively impact society reminds us that the work we do can make a difference beyond our organization. For those of us working in communications, there is something particularly relevant here. We spend a great deal of time helping organizations navigate transformation while protecting #trust, reputation and identity. Heritage can be a powerful asset in that process, not as something to preserve unchanged, but as a foundation for what comes next. I particularly connected with Lisa’s reflection on the importance of celebrating the past, the stories, the work and the relationships built over the years, while always looking ahead. That is exactly what Founder’s Day represents to me: a moment to honor what brought us here and to keep imagining what we want to build from it. Thank you, Lisa, for the conversation. #FoundersDay #Leadership #CorporateCulture Edelman Italia

Complex, unforgiving markets with the potential for crisis have elevated professional communicators to the C-suite. As evidenced in the below Wall Street Journal coverage, communications counsel has now become indispensable to executives. On the heels of the 2026 CAGNY Conference, I'm revisiting #MetricMonday to touch on “message pull-through,” a highly underrated data point that communications professionals can use to demonstrate their strategic impact on business outcomes in key moments. Last week, more than a dozen CPG leaders shared their key business narratives with analysts, management teams and media, with each hoping to drive home their most relevant, positive, and timely points. Amid all the presentations and keynote speeches, each company and its senior leadership was likely left with one key question: “Did they believe our story?” One way to assess that is by examining "message pull-through" to underscore: 👉 How many of your key messages appear in earned media, social media, organic search, analyst reports, and LLM query results. 👉 Whether your competitors more effectively positioned their messages across the same channels. 👉 How those messages were interpreted without being recast into new narratives. Keep in mind that any read-out on message pull-through shouldn’t start and end with a percentage, as that number alone doesn't offer much context. I recommend pairing this data with sentiment scores measured over time and applied to each narrative theme. This helps reveal how narratives grow or contract in key moments. If your company presented at CAGNY 2026 and wants to understand how your message came through in subsequent coverage, feel free to reach out.
