Michael Buzinski shared thisThis is my workstation. There are many like it, but this one is mine. Why do I need 5 screens? I'd like to say because I am a big picture guy and it helps me quickly conceptualize the complexities of revenue engine operations. But the truth is probably that my ADHD works better when I can quickly reference multiple pieces of information at one time. When I'm on the road, I travel with a 2-screen extention for my laptop for the same reason. I feel like I easily get derailed if I have to switch between tabs on a single screen. I've been caught deep down unforseen rabbit holes for an hour and forget what I was supposed to be doing when working from one screen. Does anyone else have this kind of issue?

Before this new chapter begins, I want to thank the team at the Arctic Club Hotel and Oxford Collection. It was a privilege to represent a place with so much Seattle history. I’m grateful for the colleagues, clients, and community partners who made my time there meaningful. I’ve always believed hospitality starts with people: taking care of your team, building lasting relationships, and helping guests feel that they belong. I’m looking forward to bringing that approach to Motif, getting to know the team, and building on what they’ve created. Here’s to new beginnings in a city I’m proud to call home.

Production is never the star. When it’s done right, you barely notice it at all. Your audience shouldn’t remember the microphones, the lights, the screens, or the transitions. They should remember the event. The speakers. The energy. The moments. The experience. Great production doesn’t steal the show. It makes the show unforgettable. And makes your reputation even stronger for the next one.

When you want to connect with someone who’s hurting, sometimes you have to sit with them in the pain, in the problem, before they’re ready to hear you. - That means not having an answer. - That means not offering a solution right away. - That means even if YOU think you know exactly what would make their pain go away, they may need you to understand what they’re feeling first. That’s what Ted does in this epic scene. He doesn’t know what Alice needs, he doesn’t even know what the issue at hand is, so he asks what he can do to help. And when she can’t answer, he sits beside her. When you want to build trust, connect first. Let the person know they’re not alone. Then, when they’re ready, you can talk about what comes next.

Michael Buzinski liked thisMichael Buzinski liked thisThink about your number one client. The one you’d hate like hell to lose. Now imagine somebody you’ve only talked to a couple of times asking you to introduce them. You’d want to know a few things first. Can they do what they say? Do they follow through? Will they take care of your client? Because if it goes sideways, you’re the one who brought them in. So how long would it take for you to feel comfortable making that intro? What would you need to see? For me, it’s seeing someone keep a promise and then help others without asking for anything. That’s what I want people to think about when they’re networking. A lot of people show up, have a good conversation, exchange numbers, and hope somebody brings their name up later. Then they get frustrated when nothing happens. But you’re asking somebody to open a door they worked hard to get through. You’ve got to give them a reason to feel good about doing that. Spend enough time with people that they see how you operate. Follow through. Get to know their business. Help when you can. Keep asking yourself: “How do I earn that referral?” You know what it would take for you to trust somebody with your best client. Give other people the time and reasons to build that same trust in you. What do you need to see before you’ll make that intro?

Michael Buzinski liked thisMichael Buzinski liked thisStop chasing what you want. Start choosing what you deserve. When something doesn't make sense or feel right, your first instinct shouldn't be to react. It should be to pause and understand. The best communicators ask questions before they make conclusions. They don't assume. This was something I used to really struggle with in my early years. I assumed everyone thought like me. In The Four Agreements, one of my favorite books, not making assumptions is one of the core agreements that convinced me why this habit is so toxic. Learn to trust yourself enough to ask the question you want to ask. Questions are power. Remember… The job needs you just as much as you need it. The deal is just as valuable to them as it is to you. The date is looking for connection just as much as you crave it. The game of life (see what I did there?) is all about perception. (By the way, I isolate scenes out of context. I'm fully aware of what happens in this movie, but this specific moment from Michael Douglas is worth studying.) Watch the scene again. He doesn't rush to fill in the blanks or let his emotions take over. He pauses, takes a breath, leans back, and asks, "What is this for?" That one question slows the conversation down, creates clarity, and keeps him from making assumptions. Not to mention, it looks kind of gangster. You know something? Now that I think about it, maybe that's the real prison. Not the uncertainty itself, but the stories we tell ourselves before we ever ask the question. The stories we never put in check.
