I still remember sitting down with Matt Mooney when the vision shifted to AdventHealth West Florida Medical Group to renovate and open a brand-new residency clinic in just eight weeks. It was an ambitious goal, but through teamwork, dedication, and countless hours of hard work, Glenda Vasquez and I helped bring that vision to life. Together, we completed the project and proudly welcomed the inaugural class of residents to AdventHealth Tampa. Watching these physicians grow over the past three years has been an incredible privilege. Their passion, resilience, and commitment to patient care have helped shape the program and leave a lasting impact on our organization and community. As they begin the next chapter of their careers, know that you will always hold a special place in our hearts. It has been an interesting, meaningful, and incredible journey so far, and I'm so grateful for the 2 years I spent at #AdventHealthZephyrhills, my brief stint at #AdventHealthNorthPinellas, and finally, the past 7 years at #AdventHealthTampa. I am thankful for the wonderful leaders I have worked for over these many years, including Doug Duffield, #RandySurber, Jason Dunkel, Denyse Bales-Chubb, #BruceBergherm, and now #ErikWangsness, who have supported me on my career journey as we worked together to achieve great things to support the continued growth of AdventHealth West Florida division. What a fantastic week at the 50th Annual Florida RIMS Educational Conference in Naples. From reconnecting with friends across the risk management community to learning from some of the brightest minds in our industry, this year's conference was a great reminder of why this profession is so special. The conference brought together risk leaders from across the country to share ideas on emerging risks, catastrophe preparedness, supply chain resilience, alternative risk financing, workforce challenges, and the future of our profession. I was honored to participate in the panel, “Supply Chain in a Volatile World: Keeping Goods Moving When Everything Goes Wrong,” where we discussed how supply chain resilience is no longer just a logistics challenge. It is an enterprise value protection strategy connecting operations, safety, sustainability, finance, technology, procurement, and risk management. We shared lessons learned from managing hurricanes, supplier disruptions, technology outages, workforce challenges, and insurance volatility while keeping products moving for customers across Florida. Shout out to my co-panelist Matt Kletzli, CPCU, ARM-E and our amazing facilitator Janelle Griffith! It was also great to see our friends from Coca-Cola Consolidated and Mark Byers, who presented “Built to Manage: The Modern Risk Toolbox,” focused on strengthening risk management programs and supporting safer workplaces. Great insights and practical strategies for risk professionals looking to elevate their programs. Of course, no Florida RIMS conference would be complete without the networking events. From celebrating the conference's 50th anniversary, to dancing the night away at the Sock Hop, to a few memorable sightings of "Diet Coke Fish," the week was full of laughter, friendship, and great conversations. The Sock Hop definitely reminded us all that risk managers know how to have fun too! Thank you to the Florida RIMS Educational Conference Committee, sponsors, speakers, and attendees for making this milestone year such a success. I left with new ideas, new connections, and even greater appreciation for the incredible risk management community we have built together over the last 50 years. Recently, I reached a point where the weight of responsibility became overwhelming. In a moment of complete honesty, I broke down in front of my leader. I felt embarrassed. I questioned whether I had shown weakness. Instead, I was met with grace. Rather than criticism, I was reminded that even the strongest leaders need someone to help carry the burden. I walked away encouraged, restored, and reminded that God often uses people in our lives to strengthen us when we no longer have the strength ourselves. Scripture tells us, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2) Leadership isn’t about never struggling. It’s about remaining faithful through the struggle, trusting God when the path feels heavy, and allowing Him to work through others to lift us up. That experience changed me. It reminded me that the best leaders lead with humility, extend grace freely, and recognize that every position of influence is ultimately a stewardship from God. My prayer is that I become the kind of leader who points people toward hope instead of fear, encouragement instead of criticism, and faith instead of doubt. If you’re carrying more than you think you can bear today, remember this: God is not finished with your story. Sometimes He allows us to be emptied so that only He can fill us again. “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. How can a marketing team enhance hospital safety? It begins with creativity. Interdisciplinary Bedside Rounds (IBR) is a proven strategy that improves hospital safety and boosts patient satisfaction. Research shows that IBR is effective. However, integrating a complex new workflow like IBR into the fast-paced environment of hospitals is challenging. It's a significant change, and busy clinicians often resist additional mandatory training. Recently, a VP of Patient Experience posed a question: "How do we discuss IBR without boring people, especially when they are so busy?" Enter the Creative Team! 🎥 The answer was not a typical PowerPoint presentation. Instead, we harnessed the power of creativity -- and fun! -- to reframe IBR, making the concept relatable and the rationale personal. When introducing a complex operational change, it's essential to go beyond data. Engage your creative thinkers to transform a "must-do" task into a meaningful initiative that encourages providers and clinicians to think and work differently.
