Morgan Chittum shared thisFirst byline for Fortune ! I dug into the Goldman Sachs succession race and COO John Waldron As one source put it: “His DNA is just that of a more Midwestern, English major. I mean if you told me that he was an English lit professor at Oberlin College, I'd say, ‘Okay, I can believe that.’” https://lnkd.in/gUbjQzw7John Waldron is ‘one of the most non–Wall Street people’ you’ve ever met—but is in line to be the next CEO of Goldman Sachs | FortuneJohn Waldron is ‘one of the most non–Wall Street people’ you’ve ever met—but is in line to be the next CEO of Goldman Sachs | Fortune

Morgan Chittum shared thisTrading has been a bright spot for Wall Street banks in 2026 – and Goldman Sachs is no exception. I spoke with Goldman’s global co-head of equities, Kevin Kelly, about what’s fueling that growth, driving stocks, and where markets could be headed next. Morgan Chittum reposted thisMorgan Chittum reposted thisFriends, a longer note with an important TL;DR: I was also laid off by McClatchy, ending my time as a columnist and editorial board member at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. But I hope you’ll read a few reflections on my time there while I plan for what’s next, and maybe share with your circles. I’m not shocked at the layoff because, well, look at journalism. Regardless, I can’t thank all the people who saw enough in me to hire me, especially Monica Richardson and Rhema Thompson Bland, who recruited me for a big role 1,400 miles away from my hometown. The experience was entirely worth my while. I’m disappointed! I loved serving a local community and hoped that if I left, it would be entirely on my terms. I thoroughly enjoy probing the politics and culture of Fort Worth and greater North Texas’ power structures, leading with rigor and accountability while remaining rooted in empathy for those marginalized because of their race, faith, and orientation. Fort Worth is a bellwether for the future of American democracy, and even its most hyperlocal shifts anticipate national trends that affect everyone reading this. I implore all my colleagues to serve Cowtown well, even if this layoff takes my career in a different direction. I’m grateful. I’ll be able to focus on my 2025-26 Eugene C. Pulliam Fellowship for Public Service Journalism, examining the relationship of climate and transportation through the lens of organized sports. I’m eagerly pursuing a new home for my project to meet our June 2026 publication goal, and I'm confident that my legwork will guarantee an impactful, highly regarded story. I’ve had a handful of encouraging discussions on this front! But I remain open to meeting anyone interested in partnering. I’m proud of myself for discovering deeper levels of my versatility. As a lifelong New Yorker, my first time setting foot in Fort Worth was the literal day before I started. Likewise, I explored subjects I had never touched journalistically, and chased them with a distinct level of research and reporting for the columnist role (I’m allergic to hot takes), breaking news and reframing public conversations on the issues of the day. I’ve sat through heated city council meetings, confronted political and religious extremists, and walked the block with distressed communities. No job description, beat, or location intimidates me. All I need to excel is decent wifi, coffee, and a Lexis sub. Finally, the ask: I’d love to meet with anyone who is interested in adding a writer who can provide correspondent-level accountability-driven journalism, whether that’s 1) continuing in regional and national politics/government 2) returning to full-time sportswriting 3) executing (more) award-winning long-tail and quick-turn investigative storytelling 4) something I haven’t yet conceived! Surprise me. I’ll also be freelancing and am open to any publication with a transparent pay structure. Let’s stay in touch! Shoot me a DM or email: holler@bwd@nyc.

Morgan Chittum liked thisMorgan Chittum liked thisA big CNBC Sport scoop: The English Premier League soccer club Liverpool is selling a one-third stake in itself to consortium involving Jeff Bezos at a $7.1 billion valuation -- and I'm told there's language in the deal that could make the consortium the controlling owners in the next 12 months at a valuation around $8 billion. The consortium is made up of Amit Bhatia, who is the primary partner in the deal and a former co-owner of the Queens Parks Rangers soccer club, and includes K5 Sports and EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin. Eduardo is a co-founder of Facebook. I'm told Bezos is investing more than $1 billion through K5 Sports, which is writing the biggest check among the partners. The consortium is calling itself 1892 Holdings. 1892 is the year that Liverpool F.C. was officially founded. What could be an equity investor's strategy in the current times? A sustained escalation of military conflict between the US–Israel alliance and Iran, marked by the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, presents a severe external shock to the macroeconomic stability of most countries dependent on energy imports, including India. As one of the world’s largest crude oil importers, India sources a substantial portion of its energy needs from Gulf producers. A deep structural reliance on the region for energy security and worker remittances arguably leaves India exposed to any prolonged instability. With Brent crude moving higher, India’s trade deficit is likely to widen, particularly if disruptions to the Strait of Hormuz persist, given its role as a critical transit route for energy supplies. Note that 20% of the World supply goes through the Strait of Hormuz and most shipping companies would currently be standstill, given that safety of the vessels is at risk, even if insurance is available at 2.5x the normal rates. A sustained oil price shock would expand the current account deficit and exert pressure on the Indian rupee amid a broader global flight to safe-haven assets and potential capital outflows. Hopefully we dont hit the 2010-2014 period of over $100/bbl Therefore, suffice to say that the economic impact of rising oil prices on India is multifaceted, influencing everything from inflation to long-term GDP growth. A circa $10/bbl average rise in global crude would widen India's Current Account Deficit (CAD) by 0.4% of GDP, placing significant pressure on the rupee as well. The fiscal implications could also intensify. To contain inflationary spillovers, the government may be required to adjust fuel taxes or absorb part of the price increase, potentially straining fiscal balances. Oil shocks rarely remain confined to energy; they tend to transmit into logistics, fertilizers, and consumer goods, reversing the recent moderation in inflation. For equity markets, the view is a bit nuanced. If the conflict remains transient (1–2 weeks), mirroring past episodes in Oct-2023 and Jun-2025, it paves the way for a sharp market recovery once de-escalation signals emerge. Remember, markets hate uncertainty, but history shows sharp rebounds when risks prove transient. However, until then, short-term volatility may present tactical trading opportunities. A prolonged conflict alters the risk-reward balance. Banks remain a strong sector to watch at dips, simply because the interest rates are unlikely to go lower, and if FIIs were to come back to India, their first entry would be in the BFSI space. And domestic consumption names at decent valuations might be a pocket to watch. As per a brokerage note, the most vulnerable sectors/stocks in the near term are OMCs, Airlines, Infra/capital goods with heavy Middle East order books and select consumer durables. Happy investing. And safe investing.

During last week’s the SEC’s “Roundtable on Preparations for 24-Hour Trading,” panelists generally conveyed substantial confidence that the technical infrastructure for 23×5 trading will be ready by December 6th, but they noted that technical readiness is only the first chapter. The bigger question is whether overnight trading develops sufficient liquidity, execution quality, resiliency, harmonization and price stability to attract institutions and support issuers as well as retail and international investors. For public companies in particular, the issues worth watching are overnight volatility protections, the timing of material disclosures, corporate-action procedures – and whether issuers should develop new monitoring and escalation practices for significant overnight events. Thanks to Cooley’s Luci Altman, Liz Dunshee and Siana Lowrey, here are 11 things to note from the roundtable in this blog #corpgov https://lnkd.in/ejpNY7Vi
