Another New York Climate Week under my belt! It was fantastic catching up with friends and colleagues and I can’t help but see this event as a reunion of sorts for those working in the climate finance field. One thing that was clear this year: interoperability and standardization are now hot topics in the carbon market! The announcement by Carbon Data Open Protocol (CDOP) of their new framework is a fantastic signal of the work being done here, as is work by Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) on a standardized dMRV framework. At Carbonmark, we’ve been viewing standardization as a critical component to addressing fragmentation in data, liquidity, and carbon credit issuance and verification processes between market stakeholders. As a platform connected to multiple registries, it’s always been a challenge to have these systems utilizing bespoke data schemas and technical systems that cannot talk to each other. We're thrilled to see more market stakeholders begin to address these challenges. Of course, there is one other component of this conversation that we’re excited to hear more about: #blockchain as market infrastructure. We’re proud to work with partners like EcoRegistry, which was named Best Registry Provider 2025 by Environmental Finance, and that share our vision of how the carbon market should work.  The pace of change in this space is astounding, and recent announcements by Stripe, Chainlink Labs, Swift, and others are making it clear that transaction settlement for digital currency, along with real-world assets (RWAs), are moving toward blockchain layers. Like other asset classes, the carbon market stands to benefit immensely from greater security, traceability, transparency, and settlement time once market activity starts using these transactional rails. This, ultimately, is the reason for Carbonmark’s existence.    We’re well-positioned to accelerate this direction of travel and look forward to another year of building – until the next New York Climate Week. At Stand, we build models to understand and mitigate climate risk. Our work depends on an ecosystem of publicly available environmental data, now subject to risk of federal funding cuts. To protect that data and support climate research, we are introducing a Climate Data Commons. This federal data—such as those from NOAA, USGS, the U.S. Forest Service, LANDFIRE—are the backbone of climate risk science. We, along with researchers across the country, are increasingly concerned about its long-term stability and reliability. Internally, we’ve been working to aggregate, clean, and centralize these datasets as part of our internal pipeline. We now hope these will become important tools to support the ecosystem, ensuring the availability of datasets that power billions of dollars of climate research. 🌾 I'm always excited when an Acumen Resilient Agriculture Fund (ARAF) impact study crosses my desk for a review. The resilience indicators built into these scorecards always yield juicy insights -- we can see at a glance if climate vulnerability is driven by particular farming practices, like tilling, lack of access to an enabling service, like credit or extension -- to help companies identify resilience-building solutions. This new report from Acumen and ARAF brings that work to life. It draws from conversations with over 5,700 farmers across 11 enterprises to understand what climate resilience really looks like on the ground. Why do so many climate-tech companies with breakthrough technologies struggle with website messaging? They put climate first. I've been working with climate-tech companies on their messaging strategies, and I see that so many of them are stuck in the "green trap." They lead with vague claims about decarbonization or reimagining their industry -- thinking that's enough to win customers and investors. But it's not. Technical innovation alone won't cut it. You need a website that clearly explains what your technology does, who it's for, and why they should care about your solution. Companies like Rondo Energy and Upstream Tech nail this. They skip the vague statements and drill in. They show how their solutions solve specific problems for specific customers. Do you need a huge marketing budget to pull this off? Nope. You just need to get clarity about your product, your audience, and what your product enables your audience to accomplish. Then build your message around that. Companies that can't communicate their value clearly won't survive -- and every single climate tech company that dies is a real loss for the planet. If you want more info on this process, I got you. DevRelCon 2025 in NYC was an eye-opening event for me, proving that, while I'm now back in the world of traditional Developer Relations, those traditions are dramatically changing and evolving in an age of AI. I took notes for all the sessions I was able to attend, soaking up all the knowledge that these professionals were kind enough to bestow. Yes, it's an exciting age for DevRel as we welcome completely new kinds of developers into ecosystems rapidly evolving due to AI. But it's also a fraught space for the type of traditional outreach activations that I've been doing for years (speak/write/code/help); much of what we do will be ingested first by LLMs, rather than humans initially. Creating high-quality, authentic content optimized for both human and AI consumption is key. 🎥Embracing Platforms: Platforms like YouTube are becoming increasingly important for DevRel. Learning how to create engaging and educational video content is a valuable skill. 🎓Developer Education/Outreach: Supporting the next generation of developers is vital. This includes providing accessible learning resources, engaging with students in classrooms and online, and fostering a supportive learning environment. 🧬Staying Authentic and Human: In the age of automation, human connection and authenticity are more important than ever. DevRel should focus on building relationships, understanding developer needs, and providing genuine value. 🎡The Flywheel Effect: Building a DevRel flywheel, a system that creates self-reinforcing momentum, is a key to creating lasting results. Focus on activating community, gathering product feedback, and engaging with the field to drive continuous improvement. I look forward to what's next!
