Pamai Cano liked thisPamai Cano liked thisOver the last year and a half, folks in the Native Hawaiian economic development, education, health and housing sectors heard a kāhea. It was a kāhea to work together, to be more present in the federal landscape together, to stand up for Hawaiians together, shoulder to shoulder. So was born a pūʻulu made up of representation from the 8as' Native Hawaiian Organization Association, Native Hawaiian Education Program grantees, Hawaiian Home Lands, Papa Ola Lōkahi and Native Hawaiian Health, and the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs. We came together to try and pull off a day on the Hill where we could learn from folks in Congress, share with people in Congress and build pilina among us in the process. We didn't just try. We made it happen. I'm proud to have helped take this event across the finish line — to help carry the torch that our varied kūpuna took to Washington many times over the last century and a half, to answer the kāhea. p.s. Big mahalo to my fellow planning committee members for making this vision a reality.

Pamai Cano liked thisPamai Cano liked this30 years in coffee, and the last few years have tested us like nothing else. Tariffs. Volatile shipping costs. Real uncertainty independent from the usual highs and lows of the coffee market. As a private business, we paid $370,000 in tariffs straight out of our savings to keep the roasters running. Today, our business has begun to stabilize, and we're focused back on growth. Our retail cafes — from Oak St. to the airport — continue to thrive, and our wholesale business is fueling countless small businesses throughout the Pacific Northwest, including hundreds of restaurants through US Foods. Through all of it, we're incredibly thankful for the partners who have stuck by our side — from the farms we source from to the businesses who've trusted us as their roaster for decades. We're grateful to still be here, thanks to you. Special thanks to Portland Business Journal for telling our story. Pamai Cano liked thisPamai Cano liked thisAfter years of service to Hawaii's employers, we celebrate the retirement of long-time HEC Labor Relations leader, Ken Kawamoto. Over the course of his career at HEC, Ken built genuine, trusted relationships on both sides of the table — with unions and with employers alike. That kind of credibility isn't given, it's earned one negotiation at a time; doing what you say, providing effective guidance, and following through. And it's a big part of why HEC's members have been able to navigate hard moments with confidence. As Ken steps into this next chapter, he leaves a Labor Relations team that reflects his high standards — capable, and deeply committed to continuing to serve Hawaiʻi's employers into the future. So while the faces around the table may change, our members can count on the expertise and responsiveness they've always relied on from HEC. Ken, thank you for your years of dedication, the trust you built across our community, and the mark you've left on our team. We wish you all the very best in retirement — you've more than earned it. Congratulations, Ken! #Hawaii #LaborRelations #Retirement #ThankYou

Pamai Cano liked thisPamai Cano liked thisUlu is a canoe plant carried to Hawaiʻi by our voyaging ancestors as a source of sustenance, resilience, and abundance. Its story reflects this year’s Hawaiian Council convention theme: Ho’olōkahi…symbolizing the strength and unity needed to make a journey. Hoʻokūpaʻa…nourishing through generations, represents steadfastness and resilience. Hoʻoholomua…move forward with purpose. As our ancestors prepared for their voyage, they chose what would sustain future generations. Today, we embark on new journeys. The NOHO HOME by Jalene Kanani Ulu design in this collection, is symbolic of the nourishment we need to carry forward our culture, our values, our commitment to one another as we prepare for the next journey forward and lay foundation for generations yet to come. The Hoe pattern, represents the canoe, and paddlers headed in the same direction in unison but also in their own lanes or area of kuleana as we holomua. Launching exclusively at Native Hawaiian Convention and then online and in-store at Na Mea Hawaii Store at the Bishop Museum #Creative #artist #hospitality #founder #storytellingbrand
