Philip Krim reposted thisPhilip Krim reposted thisMontauk Capital portfolio company Perimeter Compute's launch out of stealth was covered in today's edition of the Axios Future of Energy newsletter, highlighting Perimeter's "intriguing idea [to] harness excess power in office buildings to run AI models, which requires less energy than training them." Thanks to Ben Geman and Amy Harder of Axios for the feature. Link in the comments to read more.

Philip Krim reposted thisPhilip Krim reposted thisToday, we're launching Perimeter Compute to the world to deliver the shortest path to data center-capable GPUs at the edge. With AI inference demand skyrocketing and large-footprint data centers facing regulatory and supply chain hurdles, we provide a faster alternative: we deploy within existing, powered facilities to get companies inference compute in weeks, not years. Plenty of players are chasing distributed and edge compute. We are doing something different: delivering a technical and financial solution from day one that fits within existing and underutilized space without the need for costly CapEx. We partner directly with real estate owners and operators, creating immediate value for them and our customers. And, our inference hubs are equipped to provide enough capacity to run even the largest frontier-class models at the edge. I’m so grateful to be building this with an incredible, best-in-class team: Maxx Garrison, Gregg Fischer, PE, CEM, CEA, and Jacob Petterle, alongside our partners at Montauk Capital. If this kind of work is your jam, we’d love to talk. A huge thank you to Catherine Boudreau of Latitude Media for covering our launch – check the link in the comments to read more.

Philip Krim shared thisDan Teran is a giant. Thanks for allowing everyone else to stand on your shoulders. Congrats!Philip Krim shared thisFriends - I am excited to announce that we've closed a $75M Gutter Capital Fund III and TODAY we are opening up applications for Elbow Grease II, the second iteration of our small-batch, founder-led accelerator in the heart of New York City. We started this firm out of a love for founders, and we're doubling down on Elbow Grease for the same reason. There has never been a more exciting time to build a company, and I can't think of better people to build with than my partners James Gettinger, Richard Hughes, Vince Li and Carli Casteel. Check out the full announcement and *stunning* new Elbow Grease website here. We worked with a group of NYC based artists to give you a break from the AI slop. https://lnkd.in/eiHfqWU8 DT p.s. thank you to our partners at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and Mercury for backing an accelerator that puts quality over quantity 💪

Philip Krim reposted thisPhilip Krim reposted thisThe grid increasingly needs power that runs around the clock, not just when the sun shines or the wind blows. Geothermal has long been that potential resource. The challenge has been engineering it reliably enough to finance and operate at scale. Today, Montauk Capital is unveiling Birch Geothermal, a next-generation EGS developer focused on the problems first-generation systems surfaced but didn't fully solve: reliable long-term output, resource efficiency, and the consistency required to attract infrastructure-scale capital. Birch is led by Mike Matson, Matthew Minnick, and Koenraad Beckers -- a team with deep experience across subsurface science, reservoir simulation, and commercial energy delivery. We're excited to see what they build. Learn more on Substack via the link in the comments.

Philip Krim reposted thisPhilip Krim reposted thisEvery industrial revolution has been built on infrastructure... The next one just happens to be in orbit. As the space economy expands, the limiting factor won't be ambition. It will be access to the foundational resources that make sustained operations possible. Chief among them is power. At Mantis Space, we're building the energy infrastructure that will enable the next generation of space capabilities, from persistent sensing and communications to orbital manufacturing, space based compute, and beyond. We're honored to have been featured by Forbes and to have had the opportunity to sit down with Alison Coleman as she examines the companies building the infrastructure for a trillion-dollar frontier. Thank you to our team, customers, partners, and investors who share our conviction that the future of space will be built by those solving the fundamental challenges first. Philip Krim reposted thisPhilip Krim reposted thisMartha Stewart is entering the AI-agent wars through the mudroom. It all started at Easter brunch on her farm, where Stewart met Kyle Rush—her neighbor and an AI engineer—and realized he was describing what she says she’d imagined for years: software that notices the leaky ceiling, expiring insurance policy, or too-high utility bills before the homeowner does. That idea is now Hint, an AI home management startup cofounded by Stewart, home-services veteran Yih-Han Ma, and chief technology officer Kyle Rush. The company raised $10 million in seed funding led by Slow Ventures, Fortune learned exclusively. 🔗 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eXWzHqPy

Philip Krim liked thisPhilip Krim liked thisBest AGM yet. Took us 5 years to get the format right. Last week, so many of our LPs spent time with us, virtually and in person. We shared lots of numbers. But, I'm proudest of 55. 55 of our LPs didn't just re-up from Fund I to Fund II; they increased their commitment. The people who know us best are leaning in, especially in this illiquid market. The economy is just an aggregation of relationships. In funds, relationships are one of the last remaining moats. Maybe anywhere. To our backers, thank you for the trust. Especially you 55.

Philip Krim liked thisPhilip Krim liked thisAfter 3.5 fantastic years at MIT, Im excited to share that I've joined Lila Sciences as Senior Director of Product 🚀 Lila is building Scientific Superintelligence: advanced AI models paired with autonomous labs that run the full scientific method, from hypothesis to experiment to insight. Our goal is to accelerate discovery across materials science, chemistry, and life sciences. I decided to join Lila for a few different reasons. First, scientific AI may be one of the defining technologies of our generation: I feel very compelled by the opportunity to be a part of it, and ensuring that we do it responsibly. Second, for the opportunity to work with world-class scientists, engineers, and product builders: I have been so impressed by the caliber and friendliness of my new colleagues. Finally, better materials and energy technologies are among our biggest levers for helping this planet. This has been the recurring theme of my career ever since leaving energy policy to go invent new materials at MIT 16 years ago, and it continues to inspire me today. I spent the past few years exploring ideas for my next startup; along the way, I realized I was even more excited to join an existing team with an important mission, huge momentum, and top-tier partners. I couldn't be more thrilled to be part of the Lila team! #LilaSciences #MaterialsScience #ScientificSuperintelligence #AI #Innovation

Philip Krim liked thisPhilip Krim liked thisWhile we continue to add more carbon-free energy to the grid, keeping existing megawatts running is equally critical. Calvert Cliffs has been running around the clock for decades, and this week we made a commitment to keep it running for decades more. Here's what our agreement with Maryland-based Constellation Energy does, plainly: Keeps Maryland's largest source of carbon-free energy online. Calvert Cliffs produces about 80% of the state's carbon-free energy, enough to power more than 1.3 million homes. Adds new capacity to the grid. Constellation is upgrading the plant to add 190 megawatts of new nuclear power, enough for about 147,000 U.S. homes, expected online between 2030 and 2032. Protects the people who do the work. Hundreds of skilled, well-paying jobs, many of them that anchor the local economy. This is what paying our own way looks like. The energy Calvert Cliffs produces keeps flowing to the regional grid that serves Maryland and neighboring states, just as it does today. We're a large energy user, and we think large energy users should help keep critical infrastructure strong for everyone connected to it. Grateful to the Constellation team who has operated this plant well for decades, and to our energy team for making smart, carbon-free growth possible. Philip Krim liked thisPhilip Krim liked this"How much did we spend on energy at this site last month?" It sounds like the easiest question a CFO could ask. Surprise: for most corporate energy buyers, nobody really knows the answer. The answer is almost never on a single bill. One site's month total can be five invoices from three different companies: a utility delivery bill, a third-party supply invoice, a community energy block tucked inside the utility bill, a solar invoice with export credits, and a gas bill that has to stay out of the electric number. Each one comes in a different format, with different charge names and different billing periods (which month does a Dec 7 - Jan 8 bill belong to?). Some of those charges are governed by public tariffs. Others are governed by private supply contracts and PPAs that only the customer has. Clear Current calls our approach "AMIA"- Account-Month Invoice Aggregation. It assembles every invoice for an account, every month, into one true cost and one true consumption. Here's the catch: you can't add up numbers you haven't checked. If you count a corrected invoice twice, or file a tax as "energy", the total is wrong. So answering "what did I spend?" first requires answering "was every one of these bills right?"- against the public tariff and the private contract. This is the foundation for everything else we do in enterprise energy: budgets, tariff-switching, on-site solar ROI, carbon targets, forecasts, etc. If you get the month total wrong, every decision built upon it is wrong too. That's what we're building at Clear Current. Over the next few weeks I'll share some of the more interesting engineering behind it. If you manage energy for a multi-site portfolio: how long does it take your team to answer that question today? What's your confidence level in that answer? #EnergyManagement #UtilityBills #AI #EnergyProcurement
