If you're looking for a Staff+ SRE who is a math wizard and can both locate and solve the problems you either didn't know you had or thought weren't fixable, this is the person for you. They're an excellent communicator and writer to top it all off. And, one of my best friends. I would hire them in a heartbeat if I had the role for them. I've worked directly with them, tangentially with them, and over the years can vouch for all of the great work they've done. "Kubernetes is the obvious choice building automated and standardized development environments" is something I believed for a long time. After all, what are development environments if not horizontally scaling workloads? It took a long time for us to accept that development environments are just very different things compared to production application workloads. Kubernetes isn't built to handle non-predictable workloads. With this move we become more suitable for Kubernetes development than ever. You can now run an entire Kubernetes cluster in your workspace - all because we forgo Kubernetes under the hood. The biggest tooling communities of that era met there and exchanged ideas , some tools disappeared, some new tools appeared , but the idea behind CfgMgmtCamp is still the same. We bring the Open Source Automation communities, whether they identify as Platform Engineer, K8s Engineer, Yaml Engineer or even devoops engineer to Ghent for 3 more days of tech fun right after #fosdem So write down the dates 3-4-5 february 2025 .. I've not seen many roles come through that are a great fit for me. My sweet spot is working with infrastructure and other cloud native tools. Please let me know if you want to talk about roles like that. I'm also open to other roles related to community and content. Developing relationships is a strength of mine, and I've had extensive experience with brand awareness for early-stage companies. Angel Rivera liked thisAngel Rivera liked thisToday is my last day at HashiCorp after nearly 8 years ❤️ I joined as the founding release engineer during a very different chapter of the company and had the privilege of growing alongside it from startup days, through IPO, and into acquisition. The scale, complexity, and impact of the work over that time has been both intense and deeply rewarding. What started as fixing a couple broken CI pipelines grew into a platform that now enables hundreds of engineers to ship 600+ releases in the last year, containing over 20k artifacts, to customers. More than anything, I’m grateful for the people. HashiCorp is full of thoughtful, talented, and kind humans, and it’s been a privilege to learn from and work alongside so many of you over the years. Thank you for helping me grow as both an engineer and a manager. I’ve learned so much, and I’m proud of what we built together. While it’s bittersweet to close this chapter, I’m excited about what’s ahead. I’ll be taking a short break to recharge and enjoy the holidays before what comes next.

It showed how the world keeps moving even when our tools pretend it is still. Drift is the gap between what we think exists and what is actually running. https://lnkd.in/eiXWtBur Today’s post looks at a different problem. A plan tells you what might happen, but the world [usually] moves again before you use it. By the time you hit apply, the snapshot is [usually] already stale. One illusion is about state, the other is about time. Both posts come from the same idea. Infrastructure changes too fast for static tools. Drift shows it during execution. Angel Rivera liked thisAngel Rivera liked thisI’ve spent years building Infrastructure-as-Code tooling — at Terraform and Pulumi — and I’ve felt the same frustration many of you have. You run the plan, check the diff, apply the changes… and somehow, things have still drifted. For a long time, the whole ecosystem, vendors and users, believed the same thing: if we just declared enough, planned enough, and reconciled enough, we could make reality match our intent. But reality doesn’t work that way. Drift isn’t a failure. It’s reality asserting itself — a reminder that infrastructure doesn’t freeze when you stop looking at it. The real problem isn’t that the world changes — it’s that we keep building tools that expect it to stay still. I wrote about it here → https://lnkd.in/gfBWbEsJ

The architecture of IaC is wrong for AI use (and if we’re being honest, it’s not great for people either.)Angel Rivera liked thisI see one company after the other racing to build AI to generate Terraform code, but I think that’s completely missing the point of AI in infra. It’s not only because Claude Code running in VS Code, with or even without some MCP server will do the same job just fine. No, not only. More fundamentally, if often feels like optimizing how fast you can dial a rotary phone. You’ve made it faster, but why not just tap the screen? Terraform was a means to an end, not the end itself. It gave us a way to declare and manage infra state safely, even if the syntax wasn’t the star of the show. The real power was in state, change control, and rollback. HCL just happened to be the wrapper. So when you have AI write Terraform, you're still stuck in Terraform’s world: Monolithic state files Plan-apply cycles Endless provider quirks and argument gymnastics Yes, the hammer swings faster, but you're still only allowed to hit nails. The real opportunity to speed things up a lot with AI is skipping the code entirely. AI understands "I need a database for the app I’m just developing” without the need to funnel that intent through 30 lines of HCL, a PR, and a bunch of approvals. Think about it: You don’t write Python to talk to ChatGPT. You describe what you want, and AI figures out execution. Infra prototyping should work the same way. But we’re forcing AI to be a faster typist instead of a smarter agent. One path makes config generation faster. The other makes it irrelevant. That’s the real choice: AI as a productivity boost vs. AI as a paradigm shift.
