Robert Prigge liked thisRobert Prigge liked thisWild stats making the rounds this week at Socure - 1 in 343 job applicants is linked to a North Korean IT worker scheme and Gartner now projects that by 2028, 1 in 4 candidates in tech hiring pipelines will be entirely fabricated. Today, we're seeing 1 in 6 applicants showing signs of identity fraud, up from 1 in 20 in 2024. Deepfake video in interviews is the primary attack vector, with tools now available for under $20/month. AI-generated video is now indistinguishable from live candidates in standard Zoom/Teams calls. CISA's January 2026 advisory (AA24-365A) flagged "Lazarus Job Fraud 2.0", workers use real-time face-swap tools during interviews, with tells limited to inconsistent accents and GitHub repos tied to Pyongyang-linked domains. Standard background checks don't catch or stop this. Robert Prigge liked thisRobert Prigge liked thisI recently contributed on behalf of Tide to the latest whitepaper produced by The Payments Association on the origins of APP fraud. The research shows that the majority of APP fraud originates way before the payment is actually made, usually on digital platforms and facilitated by telecom companies. It calls for shared responsibility across the entire fraud chain, including: ▪️ Stronger verification requirements for advertisers ▪️ Clear timelines for removing fraudulent content ▪️ Real consequences for platforms that fail to act ▪️ Improved intelligence sharing between tech firms and financial institutions It also looks at where other jurisdictions like the EU, Singapore and Australia have made progress towards this, and what we can learn. Robert Prigge liked thisRobert Prigge liked thisSecurity teams have spent years hardening human identity controls – MFA, password policies, phishing training. But as our digital footprints evolve, attackers have noticed and they're increasingly going around human identities altogether. In 2025, SpyCloud observed tens of thousands of non-human identities (NHIs) – API keys, tokens, service accounts, and secrets – exposed in criminal underground data. That includes 60K+ API keys tied to payment and remittance platforms, 36K tokens for AWS, Google, and Microsoft infrastructure, and hundreds of credentials from AI platforms including OpenAI and Anthropic. Non-human identities are attractive targets for a reason. They're persistent, they're often over-privileged and they rarely get rotated. And because they're designed to operate without human interaction, anomalous usage often goes undetected until the damage is done. As AI tools and automation deepen their integration into enterprise workflows, NHI exposure will only grow. Security programs that haven't inventoried, governed, and monitored their machine credentials are flying blind. I’ve been fortunate to work on some incredibly exciting projects across a number of leading global brands, with some brilliant people. I’d be here all day if I tried to thank everyone individually, but I do want to call out Mark Matthews and Clive Bourke in particular. Your mentorship over the past few years has made a real difference, and I’m grateful for the opportunities and experiences you’ve given me. Wishing the whole Daon team the very best as you continue to grow. Now for a couple of weeks off, before a very exciting new chapter begins.
