Ryan Buchanan shared thisAlice Tang, founder of Women's Million Dollar Conversations, is a gem in Portland. She lifts others up and is incredibly generous with her time, talent, and treasure - financially supporting The Script Founders with a personal check and personally talking to our founder cohorts on how she built an incredibly strong network from absolutely nothing. Alice's story is amazing - hope you take a listen. Special shout out to Shari Dunn + all Script Founders: Alexis BralyJames, Anna Madill, Lili C. Ryan Buchanan shared thisAnyone who's ever met JT Flowers knows that he's a brilliant, creative force of nature. He helped Albina Vision Trust put in motion $850 million of real estate development in transforming NE Portland over the next 5-10 years all through public and private funding. JT just started a new chapter with founding his non-profit, Article V - which is a testament to bridging the urban-rural divide around the state with some pretty incredible economic development projects in four towns - Oakridge, Harney County, Jackson County, and his hometown of East Portland. JT shares openly about the origin story of this idea - it started in a dark place for JT losing 5 of his closest people in his life - extremely depressed - he got a dog and moved to Oakridge and lived there for a couple of years. To hear the rest of the story, check out the video. #WeBelieveInOregon #WeBelieveInPortland Friendly reminder, we'd love to see you tomorrow at the big We Believe in Portland event, launching at Wonderlove Bar and Food Cart Pod at 11am Friday! In JT's story, big shout outs to Winta Yohannes, Rukaiyah Adams, Ford Foundation, Northwest Health Foundation

Ryan Buchanan shared thisThe energy was electric at The Script Rebuilding Wealth Summit here at Thesis HQ on Thursday night. Thank you to our incredible speakers Tyrone Poole, Camille E. Trummer, Zanele Mutepfa Rhone, and Arlan Hamilton - y'all brought the passion, the vulnerability of your stories, and a whole lotta wisdom on all the things that wealth is - wealth is community, it's freedom, it's rest + so much more. Much gratitude to my co-founders Su Embree and Ben Sand. Such a special event with nearly 175 folks - most of whom were founders. Amazing! The Summit couldn't have happened without support of KeyBank + Josh Lyons, Panoramic Capital Partners + Grace Buchanan + Nick Hubert, Vista Capital Partners + Tana Thomson, Alice Tang ChFC®, Bill Pierznik + Macro Law Group, The Oregon Community Foundation + Marcy Bradley, Salt & Straw, Winderlea, OnPoint Community Credit Union + Kaysha D., Prosper Portland, Multnomah County, and OneApp! Ryan Buchanan shared thisSuch an incredible night last night!Ryan Buchanan shared thisI ended my day on the topic of Wealth by The Script. A Full day of Health & Wealth! And we all need both to flourish. The event started with wonderful opening happy hour at Thesis’s beautiful auditorium. Catching up with wonderful friends and the Script network. Gina Daley, Cinthia Manuel, MBA , Verenice León-Hurtado, Cathey Armillas, Phil C., Shari Dunn Emi Day, AIA Ken Tomita Ly Thuy Mai The opening keynote by Tyrone Poole was so charged with emotions that almost made me cry and laugh out loud. It’s certainly not easy to be an entrepreneur and he had shared vulnerability about his experience. I will repeat my words of affirmations until I embody them! I’ve had such a pleasure to have known Camille E. Trummer for past few years. Watching how much she has grown gives me so much inspiration as a mother of young kids who care deeply for creating the better community and society for our next generations to come. And the event ended with the awesome Zanele Mutepfa Rhone interviewing Arlan Hamilton. Zanele has such a beautiful soul and great event producer who had put together this event. Also, she did an amazing job bringing out all the greatness out of Arlan! So many great nuggets from Arlan about building wealth from absolutely nothing. I truly agree with Arlan that education and knowledge is the greatest wealth that will stick with you no matter where you are. I started my entrepreneurial journey with a library card and when I borrowed Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. Then I borrowed as many business books as I can borrow at a time and kept on reading and reading. Still, I love learning and listen to podcasts and audiobooks all the time to gain knowledge. I’m sending my deepest gratitude to Su Embree, who has been the most amazing mentor to me for the past four years. And Ryan Buchanan for always leading the way and being our North Star for us so we don’t get lost in the storms of entrepreneurship. 🌟 Thank you! #wealth #entrepreneurship #portland

Ryan Buchanan shared thisJosh Lyons, President of KeyBank Oregon + SW Washington, and his team are going all in on supporting women's sports (key sponsor of Portland Thorns FC) as well as women founders (key sponsor of The Script Founders that is 80% women founders + our upcoming Script Rebuilding Wealth Summit that is nearly sold out next week). Josh describes how inspired he was after meeting Melody Brown and learning about how she was creating an Academy of certified textured hair care professionals that led to a community of hair care specialists building wealth for the first time in their lives. Keybank was able to offer $20k grant to Melody and $2.5k grants to 9 other women founders that year. We also talked about Portland and how our beloved city has made a small, incremental recovery, but we really need to shift our mindset towards public/private working together for a more transformational recovery where we are truly thriving (top 2 things being a Safer Portland + tax reform). Not sure how long that will take, but it should be our goal. We Believe in Portland! Remember to register for next week's event: https://lnkd.in/eBRtJ3Gv

Ryan Buchanan shared thisTwo days ago is when I first met Mel Dorman, founder of Seller Finance Academy here in SE Portland. I was so blown away by Mel's calm in a whirlwind of growth of starting her company just over a year ago and building a 1.5 million person following on social media from nothing and creating a whole movement across the country around seller financing of homes. So intrigued by the community of entrepreneurs and wealth builders that she is creating. I knew I wanted to do an interview and highlight Mel as part of my We Believe in Portland video series. Shout out to Aubrey McCormick for the intro to Mel and to Jenelle Etzel for the community she's created at Living Room Realty! Jenelle has also help change the lives of a bunch of founders in Portland, including in The Script Founders. Register: https://lnkd.in/gxz9j9du

Ryan Buchanan shared thisNick Hubert and I have collaborated on a bunch of Portland community organizations, so it's no surprise that he + his wealth management firm Panoramic Capital Partners immediately decided to sponsor The Script Rebuilding Wealth Summit. Nick's path veered from investment banking at 21 years old to wealth management + purpose after being diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease at that time. He shares his personal story around money and taking the scary leap to start Panoramic a couple of years ago. More importantly, Nick mentors my daughter Grace Buchanan on a daily basis at Panoramic CP, so our families are kind of intertwined professionally. Shout out to these community orgs: Praxis, Humans For Housing, We Believe in Portland, We All Have a Name, Rip City Forever (Erin Hubert, Marshall Glickman, Chris Dudley, Joth Ricci, Dan Lavey), and We are Rip City (Jim Etzel). Huge thank you to TJ + Vista for sponsoring The Script Rebuilding Wealth Summit. https://lnkd.in/eZ-7f7F6 TJ has spoken at a couple of the different Script Founders small groups and has some sage advice for founders. Ryan Buchanan liked thisRyan Buchanan liked thisOne of my worst investments was in a media company built around a concept similar to LeBron James’ Uninterrupted. The idea made sense to me. Athletes were starting to take more control over their stories and build direct relationships with their audiences. I believed in the opportunity, and I put a good amount of money into it. It didn’t work. Looking back, I don’t think the concept was the problem. We’ve seen athlete-led media become a real business. Our timing was off, we didn’t have the infrastructure we needed, and we didn’t have the right group of people in place to execute it. I also have to be honest about my part in it: I wanted it to succeed too quickly. I’ve made some terrible investments because I was focused on getting an immediate result instead of being patient enough to understand what I was getting into. That’s one of the biggest lessons Warren Buffett has taught me: great things come to you with patience. The other is to pay close attention to the people involved. Who is actually building the company? Do they have the experience and resources to execute? Are they people I trust when the plan stops going according to plan? I’ve also gone through multiple financial advisors over the years before finding a group I was comfortable with. That process taught me that I can’t hand somebody my money and stop paying attention. I need to educate myself, ask questions, and stay involved in the decision. I’m not passive with my finances. I still invest, and I’m still willing to take risks. The difference is that now I’m more patient about the opportunity, more careful about the people, and much more involved in understanding how the business is supposed to work. That failed investment was expensive, but it changed how I evaluate every deal that comes after it. What’s an expensive lesson that changed the way you make decisions?

All to better understand what the best AI tools are available for ourselves and our accounting firm clients. We’re headed up to Northern Ontario, renting a house, and locking in as one team so we can get on top of the latest AI tools. Including a Quanto Hackathon to unlock each other into 10x operators. Yes, Claude is awesome. We’ve also seen Astra from ChatGPT do serious work. And Grok Bot is becoming the personal solo-leveling layer for life and work agents. Not every accounting firm can pull their whole team offline to live together and get into flow. That’s exactly why we’re documenting this. Over the next week we’ll share what we learn with our accounting firm clients and you our LinkedIn accounting community as we go through these 72 hours in a cabin together. The classic road trip, on route fuel stop: Tim Hortons (the Canadian equivalent of Dunkin’ Donuts). Ryan Buchanan liked thisI love fall in Oregon. It’s the changing colors, of course. But it’s also the cooling of the days and nights after the heat of summer, the return of the rain, and that feeling that the air itself has shifted. Seasonal transitions are my regular reminder to hit pause, reset, and notice what is happening around me and what may need attention within me. So many of our organizations, communities, and institutions are moving through significant shifts right now. And that can be hard. Even necessary growth can leave us grieving what was familiar, uncertain about what comes next, or simply tired of adjusting. But nature reminds us that every season serves a purpose. Sometimes we need the heat to break. Sometimes we need the rain to wash away what has accumulated. Sometimes we need to shed what no longer serves us so there is room for something new to grow. And sometimes we simply need permission to stop doing things the way we have always done them. A new season can bring fresh thinking and innovation. It can keep our organizations and our lives from getting stuck on repeat. It can create space to consider what we should carry forward, what we should release, and what deserves another way. Maybe that is one of fall’s greatest gifts: a reminder that we do not have to wait for everything around us to settle before we reset ourselves. Every season gives us another chance to begin differently. Of course, I may be a little biased—October is my birthday month. 🤗 Shout out to all my October birthday Queens and Kings. 👑 Regardless, I invite you to join me in leaning into what is unfolding and making room for what comes next. 🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂

We got a tour of the reservation, learned about the history and future plans of the Tribe and saw the importance of Arts and Culture with every building we entered. Salish Seasons is a voluntary evaluation and treatment center supporting the community and surrounding areas of the Peninsula. It’s the first and only tribally owned and operated evaluation and treatment center in Washington state. Between holistic treatment offerings, combining western best practices and culturally appropriate services, there is a 24/7 staff to ensure clear communication and support for all of their clients. Excited for the opportunity to show up and support alongside scores of community partners who have helped get these crucial services, available to not just tribal members, but the broader community.

With moral clarity, he articulates why he cannot support councilors who call for the abolition of the Portland Police Bureau, endorse violence against public safety officers, and believe the destruction of businesses is an acceptable form of protest. Capital only matters if small business owners can actually reach it, and too many still can't. We're proud to be part of Circle Foundation's first domestic grants, announced today at the Clinton Global Initiative. Their support helps us build Credit Compass 2.0, a tool that gives applicants a clear, honest picture of where they stand and a real roadmap to get loan-ready, so more owners can access the capital they qualify for. Grateful to Circle and Circle Foundation, and congratulations to Pacific Community Ventures (PCV) on this shared milestone for the CDFI sector. #SmallBusiness #CDFI #AccessToCapital

Circle Foundation is announcing its inaugural domestic grants to Accion Opportunity Fund and Pacific Community Ventures, two leading CDFIs working to expand access to capital for underserved small business owners. These grants support AI-enabled infrastructure that can help mission-driven lenders reach more entrepreneurs, improve visibility into borrower readiness, and strengthen how impact is measured across the sector. For AOF, that includes Credit Compass 2.0, which gives applicants a clearer view of loan eligibility and a practical roadmap to improve readiness. For PCV, that includes the Radiant Data Hub, bringing AI-enabled analytics, predictive modeling, and impact storytelling tools to CDFIs. This is Circle Foundation’s first domestic philanthropic chapter and reflects its broader focus on advancing financial resilience through systems-level investment. Most nonprofits wait too long to focus on major gifts. Q1 is the moment that separates reactive fundraising from strategic fundraising. This is the time to: ➡️ Identify your top 20 to 50 prospects. ➡️ Schedule discovery conversations. ➡️ Build individual donor pipelines before urgency sets in. Major gifts aren’t built in the fall scramble. They’re built in quiet, intentional conversations early in the year. #NonprofitThoughtLeadership #StrategicPlanning #Q1Priorities #MissionInMotion #StartStrong #ExecutiveCoaching #MindfulMoment #CreativeSolutions #consulting #nonprofitconsulting #nonprofitconsultant #nonprofit #nonprofitfundraising #fundraising #communications #philanthropy #dyk #womanownedbusiness #businessowner #drummerconsulting
