No referral request. No awkward ask. Just a simple, "You should talk to Seth." As much as we're taught to ask for referrals (and we should), moments like this remind me that the best referrals usually come from consistently showing up, being helpful, earning trust over time and doing good work. A few years ago, it wasn't unusual for a strong consultant to land their next opportunity within 30-60 days max! Lately, I'm talking to more and more talented consultants who've been on the market for 4-6 months. What's changed? 📈 Companies are still trying to figure out what AI means for their teams and future hiring plans. 📈 Organizations are asking existing employees to take on more before approving additional headcount or consulting spend. 📈 Many roles now require a broader mix of skills than they did even a year ago. The consultants finding new opportunities are learning new technologies, staying curious, building their network and expanding their skill sets. My family is why I work hard. My family is why I spend hours on the road 4 days a week. My family is why I make that extra cold call to the contact who will probably tell me no but may turn into a yes 3 months from now. My family is why I keep going when things get tough. These LLMs impress me on a daily basis when they provide me with a flawless looking answer with the energy and conviction of a tenured professor... and occasionally make up a source, a statistic, or a law that doesn't exist. With a smile. 😀 AI is incredibly powerful and it's helped me out A TON at work. But I have to treat it like a brilliant intern, not an oracle: ⚠️ Always verify facts, figures, and sources ⚠️ Don't copy-paste financial information or calculations without review ⚠️ The more critical and specific the task is, the more you double-check DO NOT blindly trust your cute little LLM or agent. Seth White liked thisSeth White liked thisTomorrow is my 19th birthday! To spread the joy, I thought I’d share one piece of advice for every year of my life! 1. When you’re starting something new, don’t be afraid to ask for help! Whether that's learning how to walk or figuring out a new position at a job, nobody will ever look down on you if you ask for help. 2. Take care of yourself! It's so easy to get caught up in all the stuff going on around you, but don’t forget about yourself! 3. Separate your personal life from your work life. When you’re working, you’re working; when you’re not, don’t let it get in the way of enjoying yourself. 4. The same thing goes for school: dedicate time to classes and work, but make sure to set aside time for yourself. 5. Call your family and friends! Life gets busy, but never too busy to call up somebody important to tell them how much they matter to you. 6. Talk about your feelings. It's easy to bottle stuff up, but when you do that, those emotions become a lot bigger of an issue than they were before. 7. A shared happiness is twice the happiness; a shared sadness is half the sadness. 8. Get out of your comfort zone! It's basic, but it's true. People never get to experience some of the best things in life because they were too afraid to try. 9. Say goodbye to social anxiety. People miss out on making friends or asking that cute girl out because they’re afraid of the social repercussions. But at the end of the day, you really do miss 100% of the shots you don't take. 10. If you’re having trouble organizing your thoughts, journal. During hard times, journaling has helped me clear my head and take a new perspective on whatever it is I'm dealing with. 11. Be more efficient and pragmatic; break down all your big tasks into small, achievable steps. 12. Be spontaneous! You never know where it might lead you! 13. Read. Reading is essential. Reading allows you to learn about anything you could ever think of, so pick up a book! 14. Stay active. Getting up and moving around is good for the mind, body, and soul! 15. If you don’t already know a second language, learn one. Not only can it be potentially helpful for travel or meeting new people, but it also allows you to see from a new perspective. Also, it's always good to learn something new ;) 16. Be kind. Simple and cliché, but so important. Try to make somebody’s day. 17. YOLO! 18. Be hopeful. Life will try to bog you down, but the second you lose hope and the second you give up, life wins. You control life, not the other way around. 19. Don’t compromise your values for anyone! People are going to tell you that sometimes you need to look the other way to succeed, but I will tell you that those people are wrong. Don’t be staid, but stick to what you think is right. Seth White liked thisSeth White liked thisDays 2 and 3 of Pradeepa’s 5th Women’s Leadership Retreat ❤️ Day 2 began on a breezy morning, with the soothing sound of wind chimes surrounding us on the backyard patio. In that peaceful setting, we moved into looking inward, exploring our inner selves, and gaining greater clarity about who we are being. Opening up in such a safe and trustworthy space made me feel so much lighter. We listened to one another and shared our thoughts and feelings without judgment. It was a beautiful reminder of how powerful it is to be heard, understood, and accepted for who we truly are. On Day 3, the final day, we brought all our reflections together and focused on creating the next version of ourselves. We created our personal affirmations and declaration documents—reminders of who we are choosing to be in each and every moment. When we remain committed and consistent with our declarations, they can take us to greater heights. At the heart of it all was one powerful reminder: BE YOU. Although we can share our reflections and experiences on LinkedIn, the true magic and transformation of this retreat can only be felt when you are physically present, fully engaged, and deeply immersed in the experience. I am always grateful to Pradeepa and this wonderful group of women for creating a space filled with trust, openness, meaningful connections, and beautiful memories. This is my second time attending the retreat, and it already feels so meaningful and special. The session began with a deeply powerful question: “Why am I here?” That question opened the door to meaningful conversations about self-awareness, judgments, authenticity, being truly YOU, loving yourself more, and honoring who you are. Each of us is unique in our own way, and there is so much beauty in recognizing and embracing that uniqueness. Having a mentor or coach who walks beside you and helps bring out the brilliance within you can make such a difference and Pradeepa Narayanaswamy does this wholeheartedly, with 100% commitment. ❤️ Thank you, Pradeepa, for bringing together such a wonderful group of women for this retreat: Sofia Garza, Ramya Uppuluri Hephzibah Sheethal Thadamalla , Jynene Redfield , and Tanmayee Jangidi. I’m so happy to have found new connections, to share this space with them, create beautiful memories together, and build stronger bonds. I’m looking forward to the next day and a half—to reflect, gain deeper self-awareness, find greater clarity, stay true to who I am, and create the next version of myself. ❤️

I was reminded of that yesterday, standing on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange as Capital Group rang the Closing Bell. It was a memorable experience.
