Shaya Kara shared thisI'm so proud to have partnered with the Golden State Valkyries and Project Glimmer to bring the first-ever Confidence in Motion, presented by Sephora to life. What I'll remember most isn't the program itself. It's the transformation. What began as a room full of young people stepping outside their comfort zones became an evening filled with connection, courage, and self-discovery. Throughout the night, we watched participants take risks, try something new, share their stories, and encourage one another. By the end of the evening, you could feel the shift. They walked out standing a little taller, harnessing their confidence, owning their power, and carrying forward the support of a community that believed in them and each other. ✨ A huge thank you to the people who brought all this to life: Piper Berger, Tayllor Washington, M.S., Gabbie Anderson, Veronne J. Clark, MPS, Chrissy Shea, Jenni Figueiredo Bingham, Catalina Jacobs, Jordan Gentry, Kim Tarantino, Kelli Hallmark, Casey LaBarbera, our incredible Sephora volunteers, and the epitome of confidence herself, Ari Waller!Shaya Kara shared thisWe recently hosted Confidence in Motion at the SEPHORA Performance Center for a day all about self-expression, connection and empowering the next generation of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ community members to show up as their fullest selves. 💜 From affirmations and panel conversations with Valkyries Collective member Goapele and members of the Valkyries and Sephora staff, to mock media day, Zumba, breathwork and beauty tips, we built confidence together from the inside out. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and co-founder of USF’s Institute for Nonviolence and Social Justice. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences are with Clarence’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. “Clarence Jones brought to USF not only his extraordinary experience as a civil rights leader but also a lifelong commitment to justice, human dignity, and nonviolent social change. Through his teaching, he inspired a new generation of students to engage deeply with Dr. King’s legacy and the enduring power of peaceful protest. In collaboration with SEPHORA through Act To Change, I was able to work on a video representative of the beauty I find in recognizing community and an individual’s cultural connection (https://lnkd.in/gwK9S7CV). The video follows how Korean culture has woven its way into America with things like color analysis, something popularized in Korea, recently finding its way into the U.S.. Visually watching a moment of Korean culture in LA felt symbolic of where I find my place culturally as a Korean American born and raised in Los Angeles. It’s beautiful how meaningful a connection to culture can be, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to recognize this beauty, both within myself and with partners like Sephora who celebrate AAPI brands. Thank you to the Act to Change team and Soukprida Phetmisy for making this happen and for setting scenes for AAPI representation, especially this May. Additional thank yous to Shaya Kara, Matthew Reyes, and Sephora for making this all happen!
