Along the way, I picked up these cool things about the growth mindset at Amazon ##### My stakeholders have a huge say in my work — Amazon promotes you when you have a fair degree of influence on the business you support. I've broken some barriers when it comes to how I influence. ##### Amazon empowers me to unblock things for my team — My nature is to fly solo and conquer the world. I laughed when my wife constantly reminded me that managing people is critical. I ran from this responsibility for the longest time. Today, it's a big part of my day. I thrive on Hire & Develop. ##### Raising my hand is massively rewarding — I am a consumer tech journalist at heart. That's what I thought. So, I did the next best thing — PR (External) for consumer tech brands. Today, I was promoted in Internal Comms for Amazon #Operations. I would've never applied to these jobs if I believed tech writing was all I could do. Dabbled in 3 different career paths in 26 years of work. ##### Index on going wide and deep — When professional growth comes fast, your career and interests will plateau to a point that no employer can fulfill. If you can't see it, I assure you it's coming. Between a helicopter ride to the summit and a slow climb, choose the latter even if you don’t succeed. The feeling on top is fleeting. The scars of ascent will guide you forever. Growth is always a subset of going deep and wide. A big thanks to Leslie Letts for shaping me into who I am today. Grateful to all the business leaders who supported me on this journey, both past and present. To my team — it's been an absolute privilege. You have taught me to be better, do better and lead better each day. It is always Day 1.

Spencer joins Recom after leading commerce and affiliate partnerships at Amazon, where he worked with some of the world's largest publishers, platforms, and commerce partners to build and scale new ways for customers to discover and purchase products, including emerging AI and agentic commerce experiences. Throughout his career, Spencer has operated at the intersection of commerce, media, technology, and partnerships, building and scaling new business models, strategic partnerships, and emerging commerce experiences. His work has consistently focused on helping companies adapt to shifts in how consumers discover products and how brands connect with customers. At Recom, Spencer will lead our Social and Agentic Commerce strategy. As discovery increasingly moves across social platforms, creators, AI assistants, and agentic shopping experiences, he'll focus on expanding how Recom helps brands reach and convert customers across these emerging channels. We're excited to have him on board and even more excited about what we'll build together!

I’m grateful for my time at Amazon and for the opportunity to work alongside so many talented people, partners, and teams. What drew me to Recom is the opportunity ahead. The way consumers discover, evaluate, and buy products is changing quickly, with social platforms, creators, and agentic experiences becoming an increasingly important part of the shopping journey. In this new role, I’ll be focused on building on the great work Recom already does for brands like JBL, Doona, NEST New York, and Philips, while creating new ways for brands to reach customers across social and agentic commerce. I’m excited to get started and looking forward to what’s ahead.

Sriram Ravi liked thisSriram Ravi liked thisHow many Day Ones does a decade have? A few years ago, my husband Nimit casually mentioned that it rains diamonds on Jupiter. My brain took 0.3 seconds. Jupiter = peak sale event. Diamonds = rewards currency. 'Is that the plan? Diamond GIFs bursting on app launch during Diwali sale?' It did not occur to me once that he meant the actual planet and real diamonds. Nimit looked at me, looked at the road, and chose not to engage. This is either deep professional conditioning or a cry for help. After ten years, I genuinely cannot tell. :D Ten years of Amazon will do this to you. The Leadership Principles have a way of escaping the workplace. My husband does not always want Ownership reminders. My children do not need Highest Standards applied to their playtime. My parents have had to learn and be curious more often than not. But to be fair, not all of it has been bad. Somewhere along the way, I hope, these principles made me a better person and a better leader, making me think differently about accountability, harder about context and think about the person behind the work. That last one came from Ganesh, my second hiring manager. I was already in a role with limited growth when he said, almost incredulously: "Hiring someone is not just giving them work. You are managing someone's career." It was a completely different way of thinking about management for me. I had come from a much more work-centred manager-employee relationship; you had a job, I had a job, you did yours, I assessed it. It was almost a reset from me on how a manager should be, a few years before I became one. It changed the way I hire. It changed the way I lead. Ten years have also meant two maternity breaks and two surgery absences. Every time, my teams carried on competently, quietly, without drama (mostly!). And when I returned, they gave me something even more generous: time to find my rhythm again. The real reward though has always been the people. The younger crowd with their extraordinary energy and magnificent nonchalance. The chaos of sale events, OP cycles and 6 pagers when everyone runs on caffeine and collective faith that somehow everything will come together. Senior leaders who amaze you with their thinking across a hundred perspectives at once. And my peers, the ones who made the chaos feel like camaraderie. And then, because life apparently decided the symbolism needed one final push. My family is four people. Amreen. Meer. Zarek. Nimit. AMZN (I promise this was not planned!) Nimit has been informed it is either destiny or a very successful branding exercise. He remains unconvinced about the former. Ten years. A head full of Leadership Principles. And a husband who now thinks twice before mentioning anything about space. Sriram Ravi liked thisSriram Ravi liked thisFrom dreams to dignitaries — Chara’s tech journey takes center stage at BRICS There are moments in life that stay etched forever — the first paycheck, arriving in New York in the 90s with just a dream, the joy of children being born, and even the painful ones like accidents or losing loved ones. Last weekend was one such unforgettable moment. A couple of months ago, we received an invitation from GoI to showcase our innovation at BRICS. Initially, I underestimated its significance, being fully immersed in sales, manufacturing, and deployments. But as the day approached, it became clear this was far bigger than I thought. Day 1 saw central minister Shri Prahlad Joshi and senior officials visit our stall. Security was tight, and we refined our pitch late into the evening. Day 2 was the real test. New Delhi was under a massive security blanket, and the anticipation was palpable. Then came the moment: Prime Minister Shri Modi, accompanied by world leaders representing half the planet’s GDP, stopped at our stall. Despite a brief mic glitch, I delivered our pitch on Chara’s technology, traction, and possibilities — with timely support from Harish. Our Honorable Prime Minister Shri Modi himself, pitched our work to the leaders. It was surreal. Within minutes, they moved on, leaving us with adrenaline and pride. This milestone belongs to the entire Chara team. Every day feels like a battle — engineering, sales, factory, finance, and support thrashing out details in stand‑ups. Special thanks to Unnathi Pai for flawless event execution and Harish Lalchandani for training and anchoring me through the pitch. We are deeply grateful to GoI for platforms like this, in New Delhi and earlier in Nice, France. Such opportunities are invaluable for deep‑tech startups, which are never easy to build. Thanks also to our investors who believed in us long before rare‑earths became fashionable. As we ramp up deployments across applications and regions, our mission remains clear: to make this world a little greener. Cheers. PS: The event was impeccably organized — from security to food (and yes, the coffee!). Experiencing the intensity of world‑leader security firsthand was eye‑opening. Living in Seattle and Tokyo was a huge adventure for us. I loved the pace, innovation and high standards, and I was lucky to learn from some incredible people. Thank you to my mentors Matt, Geoff, Kiran, Oana and Tom, and to all my team members and colleagues; I'll be looking on with pride.
