Christopher Stallings shared thisI'm speaking at an American Hospital Association conference next week about something I noticed early in my career. And it's held true; customers of excellent sales people rely on them for more product and more services, often in adjacent, or even left field areas from the original need. This same dynamic can be executed profitably at scale with the right people and tools enabling companies to react and even predict new customer jobs-to-be-done. After talking about one of those tools, I'll address developing and surfacing differentiators as a way to grow customer trust and earn more share of care. #SHSMD #ProductManagement

Christopher Stallings shared thisThe One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) — is an opportunity for health systems. Timing is key. A mix of short- and long-term strategies — including some competitive quick-wins — can align with the OBBBA rollout. Let’s start with the biggest impact: WORK REQUIREMENTS are estimated to drive $326B in Medicaid enrollment reductions (that’s 30% of the total $1.08T target). What you don’t hear in the press: 👉 90% of those impacted won’t lose coverage due to ineligibility. They’ll be tripped up by procedural friction — paperwork. That’s solvable. Teams that lead with Product thinking, Revenue Cycle know-how, and Marketing muscle can create seamless, automated and even user-less pathways. Add in community partners (workforce, education, volunteer orgs) and we can solve for 80–90% of the remaining 10%. This isn’t a compliance burden — it’s a patient engagement opportunity. ✅ Health systems that apply successful strategies used to scale digital products will thrive where others brace for loss. 🧠 Curious to hear how your health system is approaching this. P.S. The 80-hour/month requirement doesn’t apply to: • Children • Seniors • Pregnant women • Parents/caregivers of kids under 6 • Medically frail individuals • Full-time students • Former foster youth (up to age 26) Which makes bridging the digital divide even more achievable. #HealthcareInnovation #MedicaidRedesign #DigitalHealth #PatientExperience #ProductStrategy #OBBBA

Christopher Stallings posted thisMy 7 year journey at Banner is coming to an end and I am grateful for the time spent with incredible people solving challenging problems, in particular for my Consumer Digital team. We were given many of the industry’s most difficult problems and I’m so proud of all we accomplished together: building a 4.7 star consumer app, consolidating patient texts into one trusted phone number, making care easier to find and schedule, consolidating search, building pre-filled digital forms (and getting rid of hundreds), creating a touchless check-in experience, decreasing no-shows, introducing waitlist texts and second opinion requests, using AI to determine appropriate care settings, granting family access to records and tools in minutes, and giving patients the ability to text facility CEOs. I will miss working with you, partnering with you, and tackling the many unsolved healthcare challenges with you. I wish you the best as you strive to make healthcare easier so life can be better. It has been an honor to work alongside you.

Christopher Stallings shared thisWhy is waiting in the emergency room one of the worst experiences any of us can have? I can’t think of a more anxious, unknown, unexplained, uncertain, unoccupied, seemingly unfair, often alone, wait. According to Columbia professor David Maister, it has all of the ingredients to make waiting feel longer than it may actually be. So when Patrick posted that we had solved this problem at Banner, I couldn’t have been more excited. This product had everything you want to see in product management. Lit review, primary research, a wizard of oz productless launch, automation, leadership and front-line partnerships, scaling to over 30 hospitals, not to mention all the business insights. Take any one of those elements out and we would have compromised at Patrick’s expense. #PatientExperience #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth #ProductLeadership #HealthTech #HealthcareProductManagement Banner Health, Lamont M. Yoder, Jeff Johnson, Chris GarciaChristopher Stallings shared thisRemove friction & manual processes in the ER and wow was my reaction. The end result: Dramatically improved communication and customer experience. In the most stressful places ….. yes, the Emergency Room. This is me under the influence of some pain pills and hat hair. This past Saturday afternoon, a home improvement project turned into an ER visit. Bone bruises, sprains, hyper extended toes and TBD on my foot and knee - but all is expected to be ok. Not exactly how I planned my weekend afternoon and evening. But here’s what surprised me: Banner Health has redefined the ER experience. The moment I arrived, I received a link to engage with a bot. And unlike most useless Bot technology, the Banner Bot gave me real-time updates—where I was in line, when pain meds were coming, when X-rays were reviewed, and when the doctor would return. Our nurse was 100% in tune with every update I received. Not only was I the patient in tune, she was as well. The efficiency was unlike anything I had ever seen in medical care. Every update was precise. I was so impressed it distracted me from the unknown extent of the injury and what it could do to disrupt my weeks to come. Thankfully, I am functioning from my office and we are not missing a beat. Most of us compare ER visits to a trip to the DMV—long waits, no communication, endless frustration. Not here. Despite being busy, Banner Gateway kept my wife and I informed at every step. We never felt forgotten, never felt stuck thinking we would be waiting until sunrise. While I hope I don’t need to return, if I do, this is exactly where I’ll go. 💡 Where you find friction, use technology to remove it. It’s out there. The impact is immediate—and unforgettable. Well done Banner! #HealthcareInnovation #PatientExperience #DigitalTransformation #BannerHealth #HealthTech #CustomerExperience #InnovationInHealthcare #EmergencyRoom

Christopher Stallings liked this💙💙💙Christopher Stallings liked this365 days ago today, I started a completely new journey with Pennant, senior living, and Arizona. No senior living experience. A lot to learn. And absolutely no idea how much this year would stretch me. I have never worked this hard in my life—and I’m not sure I’ve ever been this fulfilled. Looking back, I can tell much of the story through our values. Customer Second. Take care of your people first so they can take incredible care of the people we serve. This year taught me that culture is never a side project. Your team feels everything, and so do your residents. Accountability. Sometimes leadership means saying: I missed it. I avoided it. I should have handled it sooner. Now I need to fix it. Accountability has been incredible—and uncomfortable. Passion for Learning. I swear I’ve learned a dozen things a day for 365 days and still have moments when I feel like I know nothing. Senior living has stretched every skill I’ve built: operations, finance, sales, maintenance, marketing, culture, leadership…and HR. HR is still a work in progress. They actually bought me a book about things I probably shouldn’t say. 😂 Love One Another. Sometimes it’s a hug. Sometimes it’s grace. Sometimes it’s a hard conversation. Sometimes it’s being the punching bag—figuratively, of course. 😂 I’ve fallen in love with so many of our residents, including a 90-something-year-old woman who still looks at our mountain view with absolute wonder every day. She reminds me not to get so busy fixing things that I forget to notice what is already beautiful. Intelligent Risk Taking. Starting this job probably qualifies. There isn’t always a perfect answer or playbook. Gather the information, trust good people, make the decision—and own it. Celebration. I’m learning this one. My brain naturally moves to the next problem. My to-do list starts with a dozen things and somehow ends with two dozen. But today I’m celebrating residents who hug me and say, “Thank you for making us feel heard.” Residents asking me not to leave. One particularly tough gentleman telling me he’s proud of me. Those are wins. Ownership. This may be the value that speaks to me most. Own the problem. Own the mistake. Own the solution. Own the outcome. I haven’t gotten everything right this year. Not even close. But I’ve shown up. I came into senior living with no industry experience. After 365 days of learning, laughing, failing, fixing, hugging, building, and cleaning up messes—both literal and figurative—I know something I didn’t know a year ago: I belong here. 365 days down. Still learning. Still laughing. Still taking risks. Still owning the outcome. And hopefully in year two…I’ll remember to eat lunch. #taketheleap #seniorliving #leadership Mountain View Retirement Village Pennant

Christopher Stallings liked thisChristopher Stallings liked this"Jeff, fix your jacket." My dad told me that over and over as he was taking a couple candid family photos recently. I fixed it, but every time I reached back out to put my arms around my family, I messed it up. Again and again. "Dad, just take the photo." There are a lot of things I try to do well in my life, my work, and my "sphere of influence." Aiming for perfection with one thing often ruffles something else. And that's okay. Rather than focusing on how my jacket looks in this backyard family photo, I'm focused on simply being together in my backyard with my family. This is especially true as Brooke Holman and I gathered everyone together, including Whitney Holman from her PhD program at Texas A&M University, Lauren Holman who we work with daily in our law firm, Intellectual Strategies, and Josh (who is too quickly gaining on me in both stature and strength), to send Audrey Holman off to the Australia Adelaide mission for our church, where she'll be working hard as we miss and celebrate her. I'm reminded of a comment made by John Huntsman Sr (founder of Huntsman Corporation and a major donor to medical institutions, universities, and the arts) to a group of business students (and me, surely the lone engineering student in the room) when he said he was planning to write a book with only three words: "Lucky, lucky me." I don't have the status, wealth or influence of such an accomplished man and family, but I often reflect on whether I could write the same book in an authentic voice. Looking at this family photo, today I can sincerely write: "Lucky, lucky me."

We talk about healthcare interoperability like it’s the goal. It isn’t. The goal is better treatment and healthier patients. Data only matters when it changes decisions. What’s uncomfortable is how limited evidence we have that HIEs improve clinical outcomes: even ~15 years into large-scale exchanges. A lot of the literature is observational, results are mixed, and we rarely measure downstream clinical impact. After building on top of HIE data with Abstractive Health, my take: it’s never been about the data. It’s been about how it gets used. If exchanges mostly move documents, it’s not surprising outcomes are hard to prove. I’d love to be measured on treatment impact. Clinicians want that too. Which raises a bigger question: why do we measure connectivity as the finish line instead of treatment impact? Part of the answer: in health data exchange there’s a principal-agent problem. Clinicians are the principals, and exchange networks/companies are the agents acting on their behalf. What you sell and how you market it shapes what you get optimized for. If you market better access, you'll often attract buyers who want data. If you market better care, you'll often attract buyers who own outcomes. I’m still not sure what the right measurement looks like. But what feels missing is an incentive structure tied to treatment. Maybe we need an independent third party to score HIE vendors on that. “When ‘Neutral’ Isn’t Really Neutral” Fitch’s 2026 outlook for hospital financial performance uses that word — but the underlying signals suggest something more nuanced for those working at the intersection of technology, operations, and care delivery. Margins remain tight. Cost structures are still elevated. Capital decisions are under greater scrutiny. In that context, technology choices carry more weight than they did even a few years ago. What I’m seeing (and hearing) across the industry: --> Digital investments are increasingly expected to show clear operational and financial impact --> Data is becoming the connective tissue between clinical, operational, and financial decision-making --> Patient experience is no longer separate from cost and access conversations - it’s central to both The interesting shift isn’t toward more technology, but toward more intentional technology - fewer initiatives, better aligned, and measured by outcomes rather than activity. 2026 may look “neutral” on paper. In practice, it feels like a year where disciplined execution and smart digital alignment will quietly separate leaders from laggards.

Provider Attribution is the foundation of Value-Based Care, yet it is often based on historical data or primary care physician (PCP) assignments that are outdated or simply wrong. This lack of accurate, real-time attribution creates critical problems for Payers: The Provider Trust Killer: Providers argue over which patient counts toward their quality metrics and shared savings pool, leading to endless, manual reconciliation meetings a direct result of your Payer system's lack of clear, codified attribution rules. Risk Score Distortion: If members are attributed to the wrong entity, the provider is unable to close care gaps or capture accurate risk (HCCs). This means your MA plan's overall RAF score is artificially suppressed because the data needed for coding is flowing to the wrong place. Wasted Outreach Budget: Your Care Management team chases members who are no longer under that provider's care, leading to wasted administrative expense and poor member experience. The Solution We specialize in designing the Attribution Governance Framework for Payers. This involves defining the clear, automated, and auditable business rules leveraging updated encounter and claims data to ensure members are correctly assigned in real-time. We turn messy provider data into a compliant, trustworthy engine that drives VBC success and financial reconciliation. Want to have your Business Analysis done right? Why your EHR "AI-Ready" data might be your biggest liability……. We are moving into an era where "buying a model" is the easy part. The real challenge—the one that determines if your AI actually works in the ER or just fails in the lab—is overcoming Representational Debt. This is the technical "interest" we pay when we try to use data built for billing and storage to drive intelligent clinical decisions. Most hospital IT teams find that their EHR data, while massive, is fundamentally "noisy" for AI. If we want to build systems that doctors actually trust, we have to solve three core engineering problems within our data pipelines: The Ontological Gap: Moving beyond Billing Codes Most hospital data is structured around the Revenue Cycle (ICD-10/CPT codes). The problem? These codes are "proxies" for payment, not clinical ground truth. We need orchestration that bridges this gap by extracting actual clinical intent from unstructured physician notes and lab trends. Temporal Resolution: Unlike a stock market feed, patient vitals might be recorded every minute during a crisis and then not at all for twelve hours. Standard AI models hate these gaps and often "hallucinate" averages to fill them. A truly Time-Aware Pipeline doesn't just fill gaps; it treats the time between events as a vital piece of information. Data Leakage: Data leakage occurs when a model accidentally sees "the answer" in the training set before it's supposed to. We must engineer strict Temporal Fences in our data orchestration to ensure the AI only sees what the clinician saw at that exact micro-second. The Expert Take: A "Foundation Model" is only as effective as the Clinical Feature Store supporting it. In 2026, the hospitals that see a real ROI won't be the ones with the biggest GPUs; they will be the ones with the most sophisticated Data Orchestration. The Question for CMIOs, CIOs Is your team spending 80% of their time on the model, or 80% on the data pipeline? #HealthIT #HealthcareAI #DataEngineering #CIO #CMIO #MLOps #DigitalHealth #HealthcareIT #UShealthcare Nutek Healthcare

If you are an EMR without an open/"public" API strategy... because you've arguably been following the Epic playbook for years... well, that playbook just changed. (I need to clarify that said strategy should not require doubling the price either in order for clients to "pay to play") Health tech of the future is (finally) going to look very different than it does today. I have a vision for this. For the first time, I can actually say that I think Epic might be getting on board with it ;)

The future of healthcare isn’t more digital, it’s more intelligent. A recent C-suite survey by Sage Growth Partners highlights a striking contradiction that health systems are preparing to invest heavily in new virtual care and core platforms, while most existing digital investments are underperforming on ROI. At first glance, this looks like a capital allocation issue but it isn’t, It’s an architectural one. Over the past decade, healthcare systems have digitized interfaces, portals, dashboards, telehealth screens without digitizing decision making. The result is now more tools, more clicks, more data and very little intelligence. Digital platforms only capture activity where AI create understanding. That distinction matters. Most virtual care solutions fail not because clinicians or patients resist technology, but because the systems themselves are passive. They wait for humans to interpret data, reconcile inconsistencies, and decide what to do next inside workflows that are already stretched thin. This is where AI changes the equation but only if used correctly. AI should not be another “layer” on top of existing platforms. It should become the operating layer beneath them. When AI is embedded at the core, it can: • Detect breakdowns in access, throughput, and follow up before they show up in patient dissatisfaction scores • Surface actionable insights instead of raw metrics • Orchestrate workflows across care settings instead of fragmenting them • Reduce cognitive and administrative load so clinical judgment is applied where it matters most In other words, AI turns digital health from a collection of tools into a coordinated system. The organizations that will see ROI over the next decade won’t be the ones that buy the newest platform. They’ll be the ones that ask a harder question first. Where do we need intelligence not more software in our care delivery model? Until that question is answered, replacing platforms will feel productive but deliver little but With it, AI becomes a force multiplier improving experience, efficiency, and outcomes simultaneously.

The real-payoff of AI is now becoming more apparent inside #PayerOperations . Here are the three shifts I found most compelling: 1️⃣ From efficiency to proactive member safety: Payers aren’t just automating claims anymore, they’re using AI to identify at-risk members before emergencies hit. So instead of reacting, they’re intervening early. That’s a strategic shift. 2️⃣ Bridging the member-provider gap: We often think of member engagement tools or provider portals as separate. But now, AI agents are playing as a shared intelligence layer, helping members understand their care and giving providers deeper insight into member status simultaneously. 3️⃣ Moving past pilots into enterprise-wide adoption: It’s not just “we tried AI in one department” anymore. Some health plans have hundreds or thousands of AI use-cases live right now. That means AI’s becoming foundational, not optional. Now, if you’re a #PayerLeader in #compliance, #audit, or #memberops… Here are a few questions for you: ➡️ Which of these shifts feels most urgent for your organisation right now? ➡️ What’s holding you back from moving beyond “pilot” to “used everywhere”? ➡️ Are your AI initiatives actually reducing manual work? Or just giving your teams more dashboards to manage?? I'd genuinely like to hear your thoughts. #HealthcareAI #PayerLeadership #HealthcaseCompliance #PayerOperations #MemberOperations #AIInHealthcare #HealthPlans #HealthTech #DigitalTransformation #AIAgents Craig Giangregorio Steven Georgiadis Amy Cornett, MA, CHC Brenda Wade
