Stasia Mitchell shared thisForty years after EY Entrepreneur Of The Year began, I asked Greg Ericksen, one of EOY’s founders, a question: If you were launching EOY today, in 2026, what would you do differently? His answer: not much. For #EYAlumniWeek, Catherine Franks and I had the chance to reconnect with Greg and hear why. The original team saw an entrepreneurial market that deserved greater attention and went after it. I loved the description of them as “renegades.” What began as a lunch grew into a dinner, then a gala, before expanding across the US and ultimately around the world. EY’s tagline at the time was “We take business personally.” Greg described becoming a trusted adviser as a combination of professional competence and genuine care. EOY gave EY a way to demonstrate both. Today, as an entrepreneur himself, Greg speaks to the future as “high tech, high touch.” Forty years later, the format has evolved. The purpose has not. That feels like a pretty good test of an idea built to last. Greg was also clear that ideas like this need sponsorship from the top. Thank you to Janet Truncale, Hanne Jesca Bax and EY leaders across generations for continuing to back the renegades and give entrepreneurial thinkers the space to build what comes next. And thank you, Cath and Greg, for a fabulous conversation and for finding these amazing photos from the early years!

Stasia Mitchell shared thisAs a business grows, knowing who should make the next decision becomes a decision in itself. That is also where an entrepreneurial mindset matters: preserving speed, judgment and closeness to the customer as decision-making becomes more distributed. What are you most afraid of losing when the stakes are real? Which decision would you make differently? Which decisions remain yours, and which are your people trusted to make without you? These are some of the questions that we rarely say out loud and will be part of “Who Decides What Comes Next?”, the conversation I’ll be moderating at The CEO Forum Group’s Transformative CEO Summit on September 29. Larry Janesky, Shelley Copsey, Cathy Huyghe Still time to register! https://lnkd.in/ekGqKi8Q #Entrepreneurship #EntrepreneurialLeadership #CEO

Stasia Mitchell shared thisFive days at Harvard. Five ideas for leaders building what comes next. I spent last week at Harvard Kennedy School with YPO exploring how leaders navigate complexity and crisis. One idea connected the entire week: Our job is not to predict the future. It is to build the judgment, coalitions, local capacity and trust that help people adapt as the future unfolds. Five lessons made that real for me: 1. Resistance to change is often about loss. People may fear losing confidence, control, competence or identity. Understanding that loss can help change move forward. 2. Better decisions are designed, not simply made. Entrepreneurs need speed. As organizations scale, they also need independent views, tested assumptions and clear decision rights. 3. Never lose sight of the purpose. A line from Wednesday stayed with me: “The most fundamental form of human stupidity is forgetting what we were trying to do in the first place.” In complexity and crisis, clear purpose keeps everyone focused on the outcome that matters. 4. Crisis leadership is a network, not a hero. Clear purpose, empowered experts, several possible paths and honest communication matter more than one leader having every answer. 5. Relationships matter most when trust is lowest. In a divided world, trusted connections between entrepreneurs and CEOs can keep dialogue, ideas and opportunity moving across borders. One question I’m carrying forward: How do leaders preserve entrepreneurial speed while strengthening decision quality and trust as their organizations grow? I’ll continue that conversation when I moderate “Who Decides What Comes Next?” at The CEO Forum Group’s Transformative CEO Summit. The week at Harvard may be finished. The learning is not.

Stasia Mitchell shared thisEvery growing business reaches a point when its next capability decision becomes central to execution. Entrepreneurs can develop existing teams, recruit specialist talent, use external expertise or form a strategic partnership. The EY-Parthenon research on CEO priorities and how entrepreneurs turn discipline into scale found that 25% of the entrepreneurs surveyed identify limited AI and data skills in their existing workforce as the main talent constraint on AI value creation. Another 46% plan to strengthen capability through reskilling and upskilling. Partnerships also deserve closer consideration. Only 32% of entrepreneurs expect to pursue strategic alliances, compared with 57% of CEOs of mature businesses. For founders, CEOs and owners, the decision should reflect the strategic importance of the capability, the time required to develop it, the cost of hiring and the governance needed to protect speed, intellectual property and decision rights. Trusted peers and advisers can help test that decision. A well-structured partner can also provide access to technology, distribution, regulatory experience, specialist knowledge or a new market. Which capability decision could strengthen your next stage of growth? https://lnkd.in/e6p5Em_v

Stasia Mitchell shared thisAs businesses scale and transform, decision-making becomes a capability the organization has to build. An entrepreneurial mindset is central to that work. Leaders need to make informed decisions without complete certainty, while knowing when their judgment is essential and when others should have the authority to decide. That’s the conversation I’ll be moderating at The CEO Forum Group’s Transformative CEO Summit on September 29. Our panel, “Who Decides What Comes Next?,” will explore how founders and CEOs delegate consequential decisions, invite constructive challenge and learn when a decision needs to change. I’m looking forward to hearing how Larry Janesky, Founder & CEO of Contractor Nation and Basement Systems, and Shelley Copsey, Co-founder and CEO of FYLD, have approached these questions as they’ve built and led their businesses. For leaders building, scaling or transforming organizations, it’s a useful question to consider: which decisions still require your judgment, and where could greater decision-making authority help your organization move forward? Stasia Mitchell shared thisGrowth is becoming more selective. The EY-Parthenon CEO Outlook Survey, Entrepreneurs Edition, found that 59% of entrepreneurs say access to growth capital is more constrained than it was 12 months ago. At the same time, 91% say disciplined growth and a clear path to profitability matter more than rapid market expansion. That raises the bar for growth. Capital, leadership attention and team capacity are finite. Entrepreneurs need to be clearer about which opportunities deserve more of each. That can also mean reallocating capital and attention as the evidence changes. https://lnkd.in/e6p5Em_v #Entrepreneurship #Growth #Leadership
-
Stasia Mitchell shared thisAs a company grows, more important decisions move beyond the founder or CEO. That changes the leadership job. You have to know what still needs your judgment, what others should own and whether the people around you can challenge a decision when they see something you do not. On September 29, I’ll moderate “Who Decides What Comes Next?” at The CEO Forum Group’s 6th Annual Leadership Transformative CEO Summit. We’ll explore how founders and CEOs make consequential decisions, learn when they get them wrong and build the trust for others to make important calls as the organization grows. It is one conversation within a broader summit focused on “Making the Important Decisions,” bringing together CEOs and founders from across North America to discuss leadership, growth, and transformation. Join us for the full virtual summit on September 29. Register: https://lnkd.in/ekGqKi8Q Use code EY26 to waive the registration fee. #Entrepreneurship #Leadership #CEO

Stasia Mitchell shared thisI love seeing this momentum! Women accounted for 47% of Gen Z entrepreneurs who started businesses in 2025, up from 38% just one year earlier. Gen Z women who started businesses last year were twice as likely as their male counterparts to be parents. 15% said caregiving was part of what pushed them to start a business. And within that wave, Black women led: 69% of new Black-owned businesses in 2025 were founded by women. They are building because the workplace they were handed did not flex for the lives they were living, so they decided to design something that would. More young women are choosing entrepreneurship on their own terms. The question is whether the ecosystem around them, from capital to mentors to markets, is evolving just as quickly. There is so much possibility in this next generation of entrepreneurs. Cheryl Grise, Louise Hyland, Natasa Nikolic https://lnkd.in/eiyCm5-w #Entrepreneurship #GenZ #EntrepreneurialLeadership

Stasia Mitchell shared thisConversations with entrepreneurs about AI are becoming much more practical. There is no shortage of potential use cases—which ones deserve more attention, capital, and team capacity? For me, it comes down to evidence. A useful AI investment should solve a real business problem and produce an outcome the business can measure, whether that is productivity, revenue, margin, customer experience, or another result that already matters to the organization. This is where I think entrepreneurial discipline matters most. A pilot should earn the next round of investment through evidence. The EY-Parthenon CEO Outlook Survey, entrepreneurs edition, gives that conversation a wider context. Which AI use case has earned the next round of investment in your business? https://lnkd.in/e6p5Em_v #Entrepreneurship #AI #BusinessGrowth

Stasia Mitchell reacted on thisStasia Mitchell reacted on thisI love being back in my hometown of Amsterdam, and recently I got to talk about AI, luxury, and legacy with the Chief Omnichannel & Data Officer at LVMH Group. Gonzague de Pirey has spent decades advocating for what he calls “invisible technology”, and for him, the arrival of AI is no different. I joined him on stage at HumanX to discuss: The New Luxury: Turning Industry Data into AI Advantage, along with moderator Charlie Perreau Head of Tech, Media & Start-ups, Les Echos. Here’s what I find so fascinating: how organizations built not only on exceptional products, but on the experience of shopping with them, are interpreting AI. Tech present everywhere, but visible nowhere” captures the considered approach that global, decentralized organizations like LVMH are taking; using AI to amplify and accentuate what already makes their brands among the most recognizable in the world. AI does not have to be loud. It certainly does not need to shout about itself. The proof is in the experience. If the technology is doing its job properly, you may barely notice it at all. And perhaps that is the most luxurious outcome of all. Pleasure to discuss such a hot topic from a completely different perspective. #HumanX #ShapeTheFutureWithConfidence

The partnership between a CEO and an audit committee chair has never been more critical. The role is expanding far beyond compliance into a key strategic relationship. As Dipti Gulati notes in her recent The Wall Street Journal article, chairs are increasingly "looking forward, asking whether the organization is prepared for what’s coming next." They bring a vital perspective, connecting the board’s expectations with day-to-day operational realities. For any leadership team navigating complexity, this collaboration is essential. It sharpens decisions, strengthens governance, and builds a more resilient organization for our people and clients. https://deloi.tt/4r9p7QA

One of the highlights in Barcelona this week was the discussion with Iris Meijer of Verizon and fellow PwC partner Jeanette Calandra on what it takes to lead in this era of profound change. Iris talked about "Sisu," a Finnish concept that speaks to quiet grit - the inner strength to keep going, even when the path isn't clear and the going is tough. It is a concept that, for me, resonates so powerfully in this Age of AI, where the pace is fast, ambiguity abounds and the challenges - and opportunities - are all around us. Sincere thanks to Iris for such an engaging conversation, and if you aren't following her already I'd encourage you to give her a click! I share a few more thoughts in the video, and I've also been reflecting on two fantastic panel discussions at MWC I had the privilege to moderate this week. I'll be sharing more about those discussions in my next post. In the meantime, to my fellow AI and transformation leaders out there: Keep moving! #AI #MWC #PwC

To remain competitive and drive economic opportunity for all, we must address the critical skilled worker shortages facing sectors like manufacturing. I am excited to share The Nexus Method, a transformative new strategy for workforce development authored by Third Sector Capital Partners own Dr. Joy Coates Managing Director, Post-Secondary Opportunity, and Nick Beadle, Founder & CEO, Jobs That Work https://lnkd.in/gA8gH7KD The Nexus Method integrates skills-first hiring with Registered Apprenticeship, using "advanced standing" to efficiently utilize overlooked talent pools, assessing the existing skills of experienced workers (e.g., software developers, auto technicians), and granting them immediate credit to fast-track them into an apprenticeship. No new legislation required! This dynamic approach offers traditionally overlooked talent an accelerated, structured path to success, through on-the-job experience, mentorship, and progressive wages, resulting in significantly reduced time and cost for training a high-skilled workforce, while intentionally creating pathways for economic mobility and prosperity for all people, no matter their race, background, or circumstance. Gratitude to the Sijbrandij Foundation for supporting this research to align incentives in our public systems with measurable employment and wage outcomes. Looking forward to exploring partnerships to implement the Nexus Method!

Twenty years ago, our founders asked a simple but powerful question: could business be measured differently? Today, the answer is a global ecosystem of more than 10,000+ Certified B Corporations across 100 countries, connected by a shared ambition to drive systemic transformation. Looking ahead to 2046, I hope to see an Africa where purpose-driven businesses are the norm, where impact is valued alongside profit, and where African businesses continue shaping global conversations through our innovation, resilience and leadership. But the future of this movement will not be built by businesses alone. It will be built through connection, collective action and a community willing to keep showing what business can make possible. As we enter the next chapter, I invite B Corps across Africa to reaffirm their commitment to the movement by recertifying against the B Lab Standards V2 and preparing for submission through B Impact: https://lnkd.in/dqDURcPz Explore the certification process: https://lnkd.in/dR5xF84y #BLabAfrica #20yearsofBCorp #PoweredByCommunity #Sustainability

In conversations with TMT leaders, the focus has shifted from what’s possible with AI to what’s required to make it work at enterprise scale. As organizations aim to scale AI, many are prioritizing governance, operational discipline, and capabilities that create long-term value. Despite the noise, sustainability isn’t slowing down. Deloitte's new 2025 Global C-Suite Sustainability Report shows that even in a year of political backlash and market volatility, 83% of executives increased sustainability investments, and 81% are already using AI to support their goals. What stood out most to me was that fewer leaders are now tying sustainability to executive pay or supplier criteria. At first glance, that looks like backtracking. But look closer, and it’s actually a sign of maturity. Companies are shifting from performative policies to strategic integration and embedding sustainability where it truly drives value. Sustainability isn’t a side project. It’s how resilient businesses work. The question isn’t whether sustainability is still a priority, it’s how well it’s built into the core operating model. Are you seeing this shift in your organisation too? 🔗 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eqdYtXgq #Sustainability #Leadership #FutureOfWork #CorporateSustainability #Strategy
