Travis Bowie liked thisTravis Bowie liked thisThe best lesson I learned at RSA about AI governance didn't come from a keynote. It came from a booth. I used an AI photo tool at RSA. Print #1 kept my hair and outfit... and turned me into a man. Print #2 got much closer to my actual face, but it was still off. Somehow had me standing on one leg. Funny conference moment? Absolutely. But it was also a very real reminder that AI can look polished, convincing, and useful while still being wrong in the ways that matter. That is exactly why critical thinking, risk judgment, and ethical reasoning matter even more in risk governance as automation, AI, and agentic AI become embedded in how work gets done. In risk governance, the question is not just, “Did the model produce an output?” It is, “Is this output reliable enough, explainable enough, and defensible enough to influence a decision we can trust?” That is still our job. One of my biggest takeaways from RSA was this: AI can accelerate work, but it should not replace judgment. The human differentiators matter more: judgment, synthesis, influence, and ethical reasoning. Governance has to connect to value at risk, opportunity cost, and real business decisions. From a governance and ERM lens, that means creating visibility before claiming control, pairing speed with peer review, making assumptions traceable, and putting real guardrails around who, or what, is taking action. That becomes even more important as AI agents and non-human identities start touching workflows that used to require human review. Not every control reduces risk directly. Some controls improve decisions. Some create visibility. Some reduce variance. That distinction matters. My takeaway: The future of cyber risk management is not more data or more automation for its own sake. It is better, more defensible decisions. And that still requires humans at the wheel. Again. 🏀 Walking away from competitive sports years ago taught me that the team you're on and the game you’re playing doesn't define you—it shapes you. I’m leaning on that lesson today as I move on from PayPal. Serving as Chief of Staff to the President and CEO and sitting on the Executive Leadership Team was a career defining experience. I was in the room for the hard calls, forged connections and engaged stakeholders methodically, helped set strategy and run plays for a company operating at tremendous scale. I loved reading the court and doing everything I could to help the team win. Alex Chriss-- Thank you for the front-row seat in a bold and mission-driven transformation. I learned from the very best, and it’s been the privilege and honor of a lifetime. To the Office of the CEO and my close partners at PayPal: You are the heart of this company. The work you do can be invisible to most but indispensable to all. Thank you for your partnership and making the hard work worth doing. What’s next? An intentional break—my first since my son (now a college sophomore!) was two. I’m not sure what the next play is yet, but I know it will be at the intersection of strategy and people. I can’t imagine a time in our history where engagement matters more and it’s where I come most alive. I’m sitting in this moment comfortably, confidently, and very patiently — but with a healthy dose of pre-game jitters because I love the game and there’s still a lot of it to be played! 💪🚀💙

Today, as I close this chapter, I can say it became one of the most formative experiences of my career. I got to see the business from so many angles — starting in strategy, moving into business development, and most recently leading SMB products. Along the way, I helped launch novel partnerships in the payroll space, turned around payments products that genuinely matter to small businesses, and helped scale offerings that make it easier for entrepreneurs to get paid and grow. But the work was only part of it. What I'll carry forward most are the people. * Strategy: Alfonso Villanueva and Shahar Ziv for taking a chance on me early on. * BD: Kurt Campisano and Mona Shah for providing a masterclass in negotiation. * SMB: Michelle Gill for giving me the opportunity, Brad Jones for modeling what smart, strategic, and empathetic leadership looks like, and my team — Kerry Meyer Vacca, Stephanie Hall (Hsieh), Emily Gould, and Leigh Goldstein— for inspiring me to be better each day. I’m officially logging off tomorrow and heading toward my next adventure. 🫡 The projects and milestones were meaningful, but what I’ll never forget are the memories I’ve made and relationships I’ve nurtured. I’ve been lucky enough to work with leaders and teammates who didn’t just see me as another colleague on a Teams call, but as a human being. To everyone who went out of their way to make me feel valued, supported, and heard: thank you. You made the hard days easier and the good days even better. A special shout-out to the brave souls who survived “team building” at SoulCycle, Barry’s, and Orangetheory. Nothing says professional bonding like gasping for air together. Thanks for the sweat and laughs! 💪 Another massive shout-out is owed to Jonathan Robins. We continue to see fintechs launch their own chains. First Circle with Arc. Now Tempo from Stripe. In today's webinar, folks asked, "Do we really need another payments chain?" The answer depends on where you are in your journey. At Dynamic, we’ve seen this play out across every type of builder (fintechs to consumer apps to onchain infra teams). The truth is: there is no single “right” chain. There are only tradeoffs. - L1s (like Stripe building its own): Maximum control, but higher setup fees. You own the infrastructure and the overhead. - L2s & rollups (like Robinhood's choice): More agile, but built on shared foundations. Optimized public chains (Solana, Stellar, Spark, etc.): Fast, cost-efficient, and ready to go. They're great for teams that want to launch quickly without reinventing the wheel. My recommendation: Start with what’s performant and proven. Chains like Solana Foundation, Stellar Development Foundation, and Lightspark get you to market fast. Founders: every rule (about fundraising and everything else) is artificial and meant to be broken. For example, consider the “rule” that the lead investor should invest at least X% of the entire round. It’s BS. For example, the amazing Kirsten Green led Bonobos’ $30m Series C round with $1m (and helped the founder raise the remaining $29m). Ignore the so-called rules. Do the right thing for your company. Be the exception.
