And if anyone knows me, they know my motto is always: Go big or go home. So what better way to celebrate than with a billboard at Nasdaq in the heart of Times Square! Our East Coast CW team, along with Nexstar’s fantastic sales and marketing dynamos, joined us for one of the best field trips of the year — a photo op with our 20th anniversary billboard lighting up the background. Huge HT to Andy Polack for making that one happen! We also got a behind-the-scenes tour of Nasdaq and, of course, couldn’t resist another photo op with the entire team on that iconic podium. Then it was back to the office to celebrate in true New York City fashion: with a pizza party for the team. 🍕 Here’s to being part of an incredible transformation over these past four years and having the privilege of working alongside some of the best in the business. The upcoming 17 live candidate debates across 12 states will feature candidates in closely contested races for the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Governor, and Lieutenant Governor. In many cases, these debates will provide voters with their only opportunity to see the candidates discuss issues face-to-face before Election Day. “The unique reach of our local stations enables Nexstar to provide these types of forums across the states and local communities we serve,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Our ability to give competing candidates the opportunity to reach hundreds of thousands of voters across an entire state in a single broadcast, while giving voters in hundreds of local communities the chance to assess the candidates as they debate the issues head-to-head, is a public service and central to Nexstar’s core mission. When I moved back to Abilene in 2017, I knew I wanted to get involved in our community and specifically with Abilene Young Professionals. What I didn’t know was just how much AYP would become a part of my life. For nearly five years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on the AYP Steering Committee. Along the way, I chaired committees, spent several years leading 20 Under 40, and had the incredible opportunity to serve as AYP Chair. But looking back, the titles and positions aren’t what stand out the most. It’s the people. I joined because I wanted to get involved. I’m leaving with friendships I never expected, memories I’ll always treasure, and a much deeper appreciation for the people who choose to invest their time and talents into making Abilene better. 20 Under 40 will always hold a special place in my heart. Getting to recognize and celebrate people who are doing incredible things in our community was easily one of my favorite parts of serving. There’s something pretty special about getting a front-row seat to the talent, passion, and leadership we have right here in Abilene. Yesterday, I officially rolled off the Steering Committee, and I’ll admit, it was bittersweet. Five years is a long time to be part of something, and it’s hard to walk away without feeling a little sentimental. But I’m also excited. AYP will continue to grow, change, and create opportunities for the next group of young professionals to step up, get involved, and build relationships of their own. I can’t wait to see what they do with it. I may be moving from the Steering Committee to the sidelines, but I’ll still be one of AYP’s biggest cheerleaders. What a privilege these nearly five years have been. 🩵
