Andrew Williams posted thisPowering the Data Center Buildout: Inside the Rack PDUs This second blog in the series on the electronics inside the data center buildout is on rack PDUs. People describe the intelligent PDU as though it replaced the basic one, but all four tiers are still selling. What’s changed is the mix, because at 130 to 140 kW a cabinet, you can’t plan capacity without outlet-level data. Here's the part I find interesting. Colocation operators bill their tenants from that data, so the accuracy number on the datasheet isn't a marketing figure. It's the basis of an invoice. And that accuracy is built, not specified. It comes from the board, the current transformers, and the calibration of both. Which makes it an odd thing to award on unit price. Somebody is manufacturing your accuracy claim. https://lnkd.in/gkPVBtRY

Andrew Williams shared thisNew Series: Powering the Data Center Buildout As the data center buildout accelerates, I’m introducing a short series on a part of it that doesn’t get written about much: the electronics inside the equipment. Most of the attention goes to chips and megawatts. Less of it goes to the gear that delivers the power and carries the heat away, and how much of that gear is electronics. A coolant distribution unit (CDU) is a good place to start. It gets described as a thermal product, and it is one. It’s also a control system — the controller, the pump drives, the sensing through the loop, the leak detection are what make it work. That’s the part we build, so that’s what I’ll be writing about, starting with the CDU. Let me know what you think. Andrew Williams shared thisLibra Industries Dallas team is ready to support your high reliability PCBA requirements. Give us a call!Andrew Williams shared thisWhat makes a PCBA supplier right for pipeline and SCADA electronics? Start with this: the board is a rounding error against the truck roll. When an RTU fails at a site three hours from anywhere, the cost is the technician dispatch, the line downtime, and the suspicion cast on every other unit from the same build — not the board. That asymmetry should drive every assembly decision: wide-temperature build discipline, conformal coating with verified coverage, solder criteria engineered for decades of daily thermal cycling, and screening that catches marginal units before they ship. It is the segment where lowest-bid PCBA logic collapses fastest. And because utilities deploy fleets and run them for 15–20 years, the real requirement is lifecycle partnership: obsolescence management, revision control across the installed base, and traceability that can answer a 2033 field question with a 2026 build record. Our new article lays out what pipeline, midstream, and utility companies should demand from an EMS partner for RTU and SCADA board assemblies — including the seven questions to ask before qualification. Andrew Williams shared thisWe have immediate available capacity! Please share with your network or reach out to me directly to discuss your needs.Andrew Williams shared thisWire EDM work gets outsourced for three reasons: machine capacity, machine capability and part documentation requirements. Libra Industries operates five Wire EDM machines in Dayton, Ohio. Our state-of-the-art machines cut up to 30 degrees of taper; depths up to 10 inches; and surface finish to 0.2 microns. Our climate-controlled CMM lab handles inspection in-house, and the site is ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, and ITAR Registered. Capacity is available. Andrew Williams shared thisI’m extending a personal invitation for customers / partners in my network to visit our Richardson Texas facility. Please reach out and let’s coordinate a date!Andrew Williams shared thisDFW is one of the fastest-growing robotics markets in the US. Here’s what that means for PCBA. The chassis gets the photos. The boards decide whether the robot ships on time and stays out of the failure queue: motor drives living under continuous thermal cycling, navigation boards running high-speed signals in a chassis full of switching motors, and a BMS where the failure modes are measured in fire risk and fleet groundings. And unlike most industrial electronics, robotics boards are never finished. Rev C is in layout before rev B ships. That tempo means a robotics company’s real EMS requirement isn’t just quality — it’s iteration speed: DFM feedback at the layout stage, prototype turns in days, and an ECO process that moves at engineering speed. Our new article breaks down what AMR and cobot companies should demand from an electronics manufacturing partner — the board-by-board requirements, the scaling trap between prototype shops and volume houses, and the seven questions to ask before you commit a platform. Andrew Williams shared thisAttention DFW! 📍 We’re here in Richardson and ready to support your needs across the DFW area! Reach out today to schedule a visit—we’d love to connect and learn how we can help. 📩 Contact us to get started!Andrew Williams shared thisThe offshore PCBA quote was never wrong. It was just incomplete. For twenty years, unit price made offshoring the default. Then 2020–2022 taught every procurement team in DFW what the quote left out: freight volatility, six weeks of inventory on the water, quality escapes discovered a shipping lane too late, and ECOs that move at the speed of time zones. The disruption ended. The memory did not. Across Dallas-Fort Worth, industrial companies are re-running the sourcing math on landed cost instead of quoted price — and for mission-critical boards, fast-iterating NPI work, and high-mix industrial production, the answer increasingly sits closer to home. Not everything should reshore — and our new article is honest about which boards still belong offshore. But for the work where the hidden costs bite hardest, DFW companies have an option most haven’t fully priced: a PCBA partner in the same metro as their engineering team. And I’m really proud of it. ✨ Manifestation Mommy is a personal passion project about confidence, big dreams, and giving yourself permission to want more (with humor and a little “delulu” energy). I hesitated to share it here because it’s outside my usual electronics manufacturing world, but encouraging people to go after what they want means being willing to do it myself. 👏🏻🍾 So, here I am, sharing something I’m proud of and excited about! If you or a special woman in your life could use a lighthearted read about confidence and how to wield it, you can grab a copy of Manifestation Mommy on Amazon: https://a.co/d/0crqdAai

The machines are the easy part. Joe Egbert, VP and General Manager in Dayton, on why machining capacity moves slower than anyone wants it to. A few months to run a machine that is already set up. About two years to set up a job from a print. Closer to five years for tight tolerance, five axis work in difficult materials. He also covers what that constraint looks like from the buying side, where it shows up as slower quotes, longer lead times and more expediting. Andrew Williams liked thisA significant day for Southern Virginia and the future of American manufacturing. Congratulations to the team at Avio Aero / Avio USA on their groundbreaking ceremony and thank you to the state and local leaders and economic development partners whose work brought this investment to Hurt. Today I was pleased to join Governor Abigail Spanberger, Congressman John McGuire, Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao, and fellow local officials and business leaders in Hurt to celebrate Avio USA’s groundbreaking. This $500 million investment in solid rocket motor manufacturing will expand critical domestic production capacity and strengthen Virginia’s role in our nation’s aerospace and defense supply chain. As CEO of EDM, an employee-owned electronics manufacturer in Lynchburg, I see the broader opportunity: expanding technical careers and creating new connections among manufacturers and engineering partners. For businesses like ours, this reinforces the importance of investing in our people, capabilities, and disciplined execution. A strong domestic industrial base depends on capable manufacturers prepared to meet increasingly demanding needs. Proud to see Southern Virginia helping build the next chapter of American manufacturing.
