I went into this training expecting something quite different. Based on the title, Building Net Positive Companies: Driving Sustainability in Your Business, I anticipated a discussion focused on how organizations can create a positive impact through innovation, community investment, workforce development, and responsible business practices.
Instead, much of the content centered on a particular view of sustainability and the state of the world that I found to be overly critical of certain industries, including energy. Having worked in the energy sector, I've seen firsthand how our industry contributes to economic growth, energy security, technological innovation, and meaningful community outcomes. Those perspectives were largely absent from the discussion.
While I appreciate the importance of sustainability and environmental stewardship, I felt the course presented a one-sided narrative and included political undertones that detracted from what could have been a broader, more balanced
