When one household wastes less, the impact is small. When thousands do, the numbers change. Freshwise scales food savings through everyday decisions — turning kitchens across Canada into climate contributors. Scale starts with participation. https://freshwise.ca/ #FoodSaved #FreshwiseImpact #ZeroWasteCanada #SmartLiving #ClimateSmart

Food systems shape more than what’s on our plates. They also shape economies, livelihoods, and resilience. From farmers to processors to markets, every link in the chain matters. Strengthening food systems means improving incomes, increasing access to nutritious food, and building climate resilience at scale. Food waste is not just a household issue. It is a climate, resource and social issue too. A strong reminder from #UNEP: simple habits like planning meals, storing food properly, using leftovers, understanding date labels and composting can make a real difference. Small actions at home can help cut waste and support a healthier planet. #FoodWaste #Sustainability #ClimateAction #ZeroWaste
As a whole, humans throw away more than 1 billion tonnes of food every year. This is a tremendous waste of resources and a major driver of climate change. But there is plenty that can be done to ensure that food ends up nourishing rather than polluting. Seven ways to cut food waste: https://lnkd.in/g8pWmezG #ZeroWasteDay

I never would have that more than 1 billion tonnes of food is being wasted every year. What is even more shocking is the fact that this food could have been used to feed people, or even reduced to protect our planet. You can actually make a bigger difference and impact on the environment, by taking the time to : - Plan your meals - Storing food properly - Sharing any leftovers We must be more responsible by limiting the amount of waste we create! #ZeroWasteDay #SustainableConsumption #ClimateAction

Today is #ZeroWasteDay. In hospitality, food waste is one of the few areas where climate impact, cost and daily operations are closely linked: Food waste accounts for up to 40% of a full service hotel’s carbon footprint and cost the European restaurant and food service sector more than €35 billion annually, while remaining a constant operational challenge in balancing production and demand. That also makes it one of the most effective areas to work with. Because improvements don’t just reduce waste. They reduce emissions, lower costs and strengthen how operations are run day to day. Therefore, monitoring food waste is more than just tracking waste. It is a way of working systematically with performance across climate impact, cost and operations. Check out some tips from UN Environment Programme below on how to reduce food waste in practice.

A few things to consider from UN Environment Programme on today's International Day of Zero Waste (which is also Meatless Monday Official). 1. Plan Meals & Stick to your shopping list. 2. Store food properly to maintain freshness. 3. Measure your food to cook only what’s needed. 4. Get creative - Turn leftovers into new, exciting dishes. 5. Compost food scraps when possible. 6. Grow your own fruits and vegetables. 7. Designate an “eat me first” shelf in your refrigerator for perishables.

Food waste is undermining food security and compromising progress toward a zero-waste, circular future. Nearly 19% of all food available to consumers is wasted every year, accelerating climate warming emissions and draining valuable resources such as land, water and energy. Reducing food waste is a top climate solution, and a smart choice to protect resources and save money. Food waste is not only an environmental and economic issue; it also exacerbates food insecurity and weakens resilience at a time of global instability. 🥔 UK Food Waste Action Week (9–15 March 2026) 🥑 Eve Parr has pointed out to me that this week marks Food Waste Action Week. Here are some statistics she has shared with our Climate Champions group here at Kennedys Each year households throw away: 🥗 4.4 million tonnes of edible food (I'm sure most of it is salad!) This creates 16 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions! 🌎 So what can we do? Plan meals Use leftovers Buy less! Now does anyone know what to do with that huge bag of spinach in my fridge that's starting to turn!??!
