GIFS was at the Canadian Western Agribition today to announce a new initiative supporting Canada’s beef sector. 🎉 A strategic partnership between GIFS and the Canadian Beef Improvement Network is bringing high-throughput genotyping capabilities to Canada. The initiative eliminates the need for Canadian beef producers to send samples abroad for testing. Together, we’re building resiliency by providing the beef industry with a faster, secure, and more reliable pathway to gaining genetic insights and certifying pedigree. “GIFS’ state-of-the-art laboratories, scientific expertise and advanced genomic technologies will centralize genotyping capacity and knowledge within Canada —strengthening the foundation for a more competitive, innovative and resilient beef industry,” said GIFS CEO Dr. Steven Webb (PhD). “By bringing this capability home, Canada can enhance data security, accelerate innovation and productivity, and position its beef sector for stronger performance in global markets.” 🔗 Read the full announcement: https://lnkd.in/gG5TpsMA University of Saskatchewan | FCC / FAC | Canadian Gelbvieh Association | Canadian Beef Breeds Council | Canadian Simmental Association #CWA2025 #USask #CdnAg

Councilmember Andrew Friedson kicking us off at the COG Regional Food Aggregation & Distribution Summit. Our region has a huge amount of farmland, but only a small percentage grows table crops. The summit is discussing market solutions, institutional purchasing and regional food systems. Growing more food regionally is incredibly important moving forward, but the way we get there likely has to begin with market demand for local. It's how we build our resilience as a region.

This fall, the Wisconsin Beef Council partnered with the U.S. Meat Export Federation, a contractor to the Beef Checkoff, to host importers and distributors from Central America and the Dominican Republic for a tour of Wisconsin farms and beef businesses. The visit strengthened commercial relationships, offered firsthand exposure to Wisconsin’s beef production and processing, and highlighted the quality, safety, and sustainability of our state’s beef supply. Within a week of the tour, one packer reported two new orders from participants—an early sign of its impact. The mission showcased the depth and diversity of Wisconsin’s beef industry, from farm to table, and was supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection and the Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board.
