New Achievements! Father and daughter upgrades to General class ham radio licenses and my father-in-law to Extra class! 🕰️My father-in-law’s ham journey began in the 1970s. Fast forward to 2023 and my youngest daughter became interested in the hobby… between experimenting with her grandfather and a book she read about kids helping out in a natural disaster using radios. She wanted to help too and decided to get her license. 📻So, at 11 years old with her grandfather as her “Elmer”, or mentor, she began studying for the Technician exam. Her enthusiasm was infectious and soon I was studying with them. In March 2024 she and I earned our Technician licenses. 📡 After 2 years of fun in the hobby we decided to level up…. And my father-in-law decided to finally make a run at the Extra license. We took courses through the Woodbridge Wireless Amateur Radio Club (https://lnkd.in/g9SUFr3M) and sat for our exams this past weekend. The Woodbridge club has been amazing- passionate and knowledgeable volunteer instructors and super professional volunteer exam coordinators. If you’re looking for a relatively low cost hobby the whole family can enjoy… where you are constantly learning and can make friends worldwide… Ham Radio might be the thing for you! It’s never too early or too late to get involved :) 73, KQ4PLA #hamradio #amateurradio #emergencycommunications #weatherspotting #arrl #hamradiooperator #sdr

My father-in-law had card from all over the world from people he talked to over his ham set in his house in La Paz Bolivia. While looking through his wall off cards there was one from Mister Rodger’s. Very cool hobby?
Congratulations to all three of you, Hart! 2026 is my 30th year licensed. Hard to believe! It's funny how many others in cyber I recentlt learned are also hams. Catch you on the air sometime! 73 de K3TRM

Awesome! What fun! I've long wanted to find time to go down this particular path. If folks are around Kernelcon next week, there is actually a 1-day workshop to get you the skills needed for the exam (and a bunch of HAM and other RF stuff going on in the Village area after).https://kernelcon.org/training#ham-radio-workshop
