We are now building systems in a world where AI writes a significant portion of the code. And this changes the conversation. AI doesn’t clean architecture. It doesn’t define boundaries for you. It doesn’t decide where responsibilities should live. It simply accelerates whatever structure already exists. If your project has clear conventions, strong modularization and intentional design, AI becomes incredibly powerful. It understands patterns. It continues them. It scales your thinking. But if the system is inconsistent, tightly coupled and architecturally undefined, AI will replicate that chaos just faster. In the end, the fundamentals didn’t become less important. They became more important. The tools evolving, while principles don’t.

In 2026, writing code is no longer the hard part. Designing systems is. With AI-assisted development becoming standard, generating functions, tests, and even documentation is faster than ever. The real challenge now is architectural thinking — defining boundaries, controlling complexity, and making sure generated code fits into a coherent, scalable system. AI can accelerate implementation. The recent Context Window conversation between Dan Shipper and Mike Krieger was incredibly validating. It strongly reinforced the trends I'm observing in the enterprise space right now and perfectly captured the exact strategies I've been working hard to champion. If you are building with AI in the enterprise, keep these three things in mind: > 💡 AI changes scaling: Because individuals can build rapidly with AI, premature team scaling results in coordination bottlenecks instead of accelerating development. > 💡 Fundamentals still matter: Agents won't fix bad architecture. > 💡 Keep it focused: It's more important than ever to forcefully restrict scope. If you don't, you risk confusing your initial users with bloated software.

Architecture Is the New Product. AI is handling more of the code scaffolding services, writing endpoints, generating tests. That work is faster and cheaper than ever. What isn't cheap is deciding how things connect, where the boundaries sit, what scales and what breaks. I've been thinking about why so many AI initiatives stall after the demo. AI isn’t magic. It’s architecture. A lot of confusion comes from treating all AI systems as the same thing. They’re not. How you build them shapes how they behave. The old setup was simple: train a model, deploy it, hope the world doesn’t change too much. It works well for narrow problems, until it doesn’t. Then came agent-style systems. Instead of following a fixed path, they work toward a goal. They plan, try things, check results. Powerful, but risky if they’re not anchored in real data. That’s where RAG changes the game. You give agents access to live, trusted information and memory. Now they can reason, act, and stay grounded in reality. What we’re seeing now isn’t a replacement of one with another, but systems that blend all three. Curious how others are thinking about this when designing real-world systems.
