The FAO's agenda at its 80th anniversary is a pivotal one, marked by a critical transition from celebrating past achievements to confronting unprecedented 21st-century challenges. While rightly honoring its legacy in reducing hunger and improving agricultural practices, the agenda is sharply focused on the future. The core message is that the traditional models of food production are no longer sufficient or sustainable. The central theme is the urgent need to transform global agrifood systems to be more Efficient, Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable.

The results of this pilot phase indicate that ECOWAS countries do not trade sufficiently with one another. Reducing food import dependency in the region therefore calls for concerted efforts by all countries to fully implement all community policies and regulations to facilitate cross-border trade and advance regional market integration, said Dr. Ousmane Badiane, Executive Chairperson, AKADEMIYA2063. The deployment of the ECOWAS Agriculture Trade and Market Scorecard will help fill the data, knowledge, and policy gaps, strengthen mutual accountability, and encourage countries to effectively and coherently implement existing regional strategies. When it comes to food, Prairie farmers and food manufacturers put roughly $35 billion on the table. In fact, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba collectively contribute 94% of Canada’s exports in key agricultural commodities like wheat, canola oil, canola seeds, lentils, peas, and beans. That’s why PrairiesCan is proud to support the many agricultural producers, processors, and innovators that are turning in-demand produce and value-added foods into resilient supply chains, high-quality jobs, and agri-tech solutions the world needs. Recent examples include: ➡️ Over $4.2 million to support Saskatchewan’s agriculture sector: https://lnkd.in/gUz3BFNu ➡️Over $1.8 million to accelerate Alberta’s value-added agriculture sector: https://lnkd.in/g4Ftd85Z ➡️$5.6 million to help Manitoba value-added ag businesses scale up and optimize their processes: https://lnkd.in/emP4dCXq This year’s #WorldFoodDay calls for global collaboration to build a peaceful, sustainable, prosperous, and food-secure future for all. When farmers, governments, Indigenous partners, industry, researchers, and communities work together, we can transform agrifood systems. We can grow more with less, cut emissions, improve water use, and work towards a future where everyone has access to high-quality food. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gXd-FPH2
