⚡ A Real Challenge in Databricks My notebook was running perfectly fine for small data last week. However, it abruptly gave an error when I tried to use the full dataset:  👉 * "Executor Lost" or "Out of Memory" 💥 I initially believed that my code was faulty. But what's the actual issue? The cluster didn’t have enough resources for that workload. ✅ The Smart Fix: 1️⃣ Autoscaling Clusters: Let Databricks add/remove workers based on load (no more guesswork on size). 2️⃣ Optimize File Format: By moving from CSV to Parquet, memory and cost were saved. 3️⃣ Partitioning: Instead of processing all the data at once, divide it up into smaller, more manageable portions. 4️⃣ Delta Cache: To speed up processes and reuse data that is frequently used. 💡 Takeaway: Sometimes, the cluster configuration or the data format—rather than your code—is the problem. I was responsible for designing and implementing end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Databricks, seamlessly integrated with Azure Data Lake, SQL Managed Instances, and Power BI for real-time analytics. 📌 Key Contributions: 🔄 Built dynamic data ingestion pipelines using PySpark and Databricks Notebooks, processing structured and semi-structured data from multiple sources 🧠 Designed reusable and scalable ETL workflows using Medallion Architecture (Bronze → Silver → Gold) to ensure clean, governed, and analytics-ready data 🔍 Applied complex data transformation logic with Python/SQL to meet business-specific KPIs 📊 Enabled self-service BI by curating Gold layer datasets for analysts to use in Power BI dashboards 🔐 Integrated with Unity Catalog for fine-grained data access control and governance ⚙️ Automated pipeline deployments and monitoring via Azure DevOps CI/CD and alerting mechanisms This modern data stack drastically reduced reporting latency, improved data quality, and allowed cross-functional teams to make better data-driven decisions. 🔁 I believe in continuous improvement and collaboration. 🚀 From Learning to Building: Hands-On with Databricks & Synapse In my previous role, I worked extensively on Databricks and Azure Synapse, building pipelines, transforming data, and delivering insights. Now, while exploring new opportunities, I decided to showcase my skills by building a project based on a tutorial I recently followed — link to tutorial. That’s why implementing data quality checks and testing frameworks is crucial for any modern data platform. 💡 Why Data Quality Matters Poor-quality data leads to inaccurate analytics, bad decisions, and costly rework. Ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency across your data lake and warehouse builds trust with business users. 🔹 Data Quality Techniques in Azure Pipelines Validation Rules in ADF → Pre-load checks (record count, schema validation, null checks).
