External Laundry A Small Detail That Plays a Big Role in Food Safety 🧺 Something we don't always think about in food manufacturing is the role of externally laundered workwear. Once clean workwear arrives back on site, the process doesn't simply end there. From a Technical and Food Safety perspective, there are several important controls to consider: 🔹 Is the laundry provider approved? 🔹 Is the workwear transported in a way that protects it from contamination? 🔹 Is clean clothing kept separate from used or contaminated clothing? 🔹 Are garments supplied in a clean and suitable condition? 🔹 Are collection and delivery processes controlled? 🔹 Are damaged or unsuitable garments identified and removed? 🔹 Are the laundry company's procedures and records reviewed as part of supplier assurance? These controls may seem like small details, but in a food manufacturing environment, clean protective clothing is part of the overall hygiene system. It is a good reminder that food safety doesn't only depend on what happens directly on the production line. Sometimes, the most important controls happen before we even enter the production area. #FoodSafety #FoodManufacturing #Technical #Quality #Hygiene #FoodIndustry #SupplierAssurance #TechnicalTeam

A ring may be small. The food safety risk it creates isn’t. In a food production environment, we often focus on major hazards such as microbial contamination, allergens, foreign materials, process failures. But sometimes, the risk starts with something much smaller: A piece of jewelry. A ring, watch, bracelet, necklace, or earring can create multiple risks during production: 🔴 Physical contamination — jewelry can break, fall, or become a foreign object. 🦠 Microbial & allergen traps — small gaps can collect dirt and microorganisms. 🧤 Glove damage — sharp edges can tear gloves and compromise protection. 🧼 Hygiene challenges — jewelry makes proper cleaning and sanitation more difficult. And the risk doesn’t exist in just one area. It can appear during raw material handling, processing, packaging, inspection, and storage. That’s why a simple rule matters: No jewelry in the production area. Before entering production: → Remove all jewelry → Wash hands properly → Dry hands with a clean disposable towel → Put on the required PPE according to the site SOP → Enter the production area ready for safe food handling It may feel like a small discipline. But food safety is built from small disciplines repeated consistently. Because removing jewelry isn’t simply about following a rule. It’s about protecting the product, the consumer, and the trust behind the brand. 💬 For food safety, QA, production, and hygiene professionals: What is one “small” GMP rule in your facility that people often underestimate—but can create a big food safety risk? Simple Rules Save Lives: Food Safety Training for Floor Teams 🧼🏭 Training entry-level operational staff on food safety doesn't require dense textbooks or complex jargon. When language barriers or basic literacy levels are a factor, clarity, repetition, and visual standards are everything. Here is the straightforward, 4-part framework we use to train floor workers on Basic Food Safety & Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs): 1. Personal Cleanliness Rules Clean Attire Always: Fresh aprons, clean boots, hairnets, and beard covers on before stepping onto the floor. Handwashing Standard: 20 seconds with soap before work, after restrooms, handling waste, or touching the floor. Zero Accessories: No watches, rings, jewelry, or loose pocket items. No Consumption: Strict prohibition on eating, drinking, chewing tobacco/gum, or spitting in operational areas. 2. Color-Coded Tool Rules Strict Separation: Use designated tool colors for specific zones (e.g., Red for drains, Blue for food contact). Never place floor tools on processing tables! Proper Storage: Tools must stay off the ground and be hung on wall hooks immediately after use. 3. The 5-Step Cleaning Method Scrape: Remove solid waste & scraps. Rinse: Wash off loose dirt with clean water. Soap & Scrub: Use detergent and elbow grease to remove stubborn grease. Rinse: Clear all soap residues. Sanitize: Spray sanitizer to eliminate invisible germs and let air-dry naturally. 4. Chemical Safety Guidelines Follow Dosing: Extra chemical doesn't equal better cleaning—it leaves toxic residues. Use dosing pumps. Label Everything: Never store soaps or chemicals in unmarked bottles or buckets. Protect Yourself: Goggles, heavy rubber gloves, and rubber boots are non-negotiable when handling chemicals. Keeping safety messages simple, visual, and practical protects product quality and builds a strong food safety culture from the ground up! How do you simplify hygiene training for your factory floor teams? Let’s discuss below! 👇 #FoodSafety #QualityAssurance #GMP #Sanitation #Manufacturing #FoodIndustry #HACCP #Operations

🧼 YOUR FACILITY MAY LOOK CLEAN — BUT IS IT REALLY FOOD-SAFE? In food manufacturing, cleaning should never be judged by appearance alone. A production area can look spotless while hidden risks remain in: 🔹 Drains and drainage channels 🔹 Hard-to-reach equipment areas 🔹 Food-contact surfaces 🔹 High-level structures 🔹 Cracks, joints and crevices 🔹 Areas where food residues and moisture accumulate Effective cleaning is about more than removing visible dirt. It requires the right procedure, correct chemical application, adequate mechanical action, appropriate contact time, trained personnel and consistent verification. At DreadzM Solutions, we understand that professional cleaning is part of your broader food safety and hygiene system. Our services include: ✅ Routine cleaning & sanitation programmes ✅ Deep cleaning ✅ High-level cleaning ✅ Equipment sanitation ✅ Once-off hygiene projects ✅ Post-cleaning inspections ✅ Hygiene compliance support Clean is not just what you can see. 🧤 GLOVES DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN CLEAN HANDS. One thing that has always bothered me when observing food-service and food-processing environments is seeing workers wearing gloves while moving from task to task and touching multiple surfaces. The glove may look clean—but what has that glove touched? A worker can touch: 🚪 Door handles 📱 Phones 🗑️ Waste containers 🧰 Equipment 🧼 Cleaning surfaces 💵 Other objects ➡️ And then return to handling food. At that point, the glove itself can become a vehicle for cross-contamination. Food safety is not simply: “Are you wearing gloves?” It is: “Are you following the correct hygiene and task-transition procedures?” 🔎 That means organizations need: 🧼 Proper hand hygiene 🧤 Appropriate glove use 🔄 Glove changes when required 🍴 Separation of clean and contaminated tasks 📋 Documented sanitation procedures 👀 Effective supervision 🎓 Employee training 🔎 Verification—not just paperwork 📊 Measurable food-safety performance And this is exactly why I believe Enterprise Excellence needs to go beyond checkbox compliance. A regulation can require gloves. But an excellent organization builds a culture and control system that ensures those gloves are being used correctly. Our food systems deserve that level of accountability because what enters the food supply ultimately enters our bodies. 🍎🥩🥗 The White House USDA U.S. Department of State US Navy United States Department of War United States Senate U.S. House of Representatives U.S. Secret Service Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Federal Reserve Board World Economic Forum Israel Defense Forces For me, this is also connected to stewardship: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit…” — 1 Corinthians 6:19 Whether we approach food safety from a scientific, regulatory, operational, or faith-based perspective, the principle is the same: 🛡️ Protect the integrity of what people consume. Don’t just provide the equipment. Train the people. Monitor the process. Verify the behavior. Correct the failures. Continuously improve. That is what real institutional excellence looks like. 🏛️🔐🍽️ #FoodSafety #FoodProcessing #PublicHealth #EnterpriseExcellence #WorkforceTraining #QualityManagement #OperationalExcellence #Compliance #FoodHygiene #RiskManagement #PublicTrust

🧼 PERSONAL HYGIENE: THE FIRST LINE OF FOOD SAFETY In food service, personal hygiene is not just about looking clean—it is about preventing contamination and protecting public health. Simple habits can make a major difference: 👨🍳 Keep hair properly covered. 💍 Remove unnecessary jewelry, watches and rings. 👕 Wear clean, suitable protective clothing. 💅 Keep nails short, clean and free from artificial nails/polish where required. 🩹 Cover wounds properly with a suitable waterproof dressing. 👟 Wear clean, closed and appropriate safety footwear. 🚫 Keep personal items away from food-preparation areas. 🧼 Wash hands correctly and at the required times. These practices support GHP, GMP and HACCP prerequisite programs by reducing the risk of biological and physical hazards entering the food chain. Why does it matter? Because a food handler can unknowingly transfer microorganisms from their hands, hair, clothing, jewelry or personal items to food and food-contact surfaces. One small lapse can lead to cross-contamination, foodborne illness, product loss and damage to customer trust. HACCP is built around prevention. Personal hygiene helps create the hygienic foundation needed before critical control measures can work effectively. The best food-safety systems are not only written in procedures—they are understood, practiced and verified every day. ✅ Clean people ✅ Safe food ✅ Healthy customers ✅ Strong food-safety culture Food safety starts with us. Every shift. Every kitchen. Every time. #FoodSafety #PersonalHygiene #HACCP #FoodHygiene #GMP #GHP #FoodSafetyCulture #CrossContamination #FoodQuality #FoodHandlers #PublicHealth #SafeFood #MuneebAbbasi

CROSS-CONTAMINATION: THE INVISIBLE FOOD SAFETY RISK You may not see it. You may not smell it. You may not even notice it. But cross-contamination can turn a safe kitchen into a food safety risk. In a QSR environment, contamination can happen through: 🔪 Equipment & utensils Using the same knife, cutting board, or equipment for raw and ready-to-eat food without proper cleaning and sanitizing. 🧤 Gloves & hands Changing tasks without changing gloves or washing hands can transfer harmful microorganisms. 🍗 Raw food handling Raw chicken, meat, or eggs can contaminate surfaces, utensils, and other foods. 🧽 Cleaning materials A dirty cloth or duster can spread contamination instead of removing it. 📦 Food storage Incorrect segregation of raw and ready-to-eat food can cause contamination through drips or contact. ### ✅ How can we prevent it? ✔️ Separate raw and ready-to-eat food ✔️ Use designated utensils where required ✔️ Wash hands at the right moments ✔️ Change gloves when necessary ✔️ Clean AND sanitize food-contact surfaces ✔️ Store raw foods below ready-to-eat foods ✔️ Keep cleaning tools clean and properly managed ✔️ Follow SOPs consistently—not only during audits Food safety isn't about finding mistakes after they happen. It's about preventing them before they happen. As compliance professionals, our goal should be simple: Identify the risk → Control the risk → Prevent recurrence. #FoodSafety #CrossContamination #QSR #FoodQuality #FoodSafetyCulture #Compliance #QualityAssurance
