By now the novelty of #AI has worn off. And just like with other technologies, just a few people use it on a bigger scale (almost everyone can read, but why are just a few writing books?). And even then we make the same mistakes over and over—implementing technology without thinking about the underlying foundation … the process. And, like in the past, we miss out on the opportunity to create something new and better. This is something that our current guest, Dr. Volker Stiehl, wants to change with his “Progressive BPM” approach. I'd say it's more than "process intelligence" that is usually missing in AI-First / Fast-approaches. It's also * the depth of the transformation: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/warum-jedem-mitarbeiter-einen-ki-agenten-geben-noch-keine-bormann-jni2e/ * the complex organisational dynamics (that goes beyond IT, BPM, AI / ML, etc.): https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/das-anti-ai-first-pro-automation-manifest-peter-bormann-dqw5e/ * AI cybersecurity In short, "AI First / Fast" is often deeply flawed.
I am looking forward to see you in person today, Dr. Volker Stiehl !
Roland Woldts right. AI is a fancy automation tool. That's the problem. Automate a process nobody has mapped and you scale the disaster. Hand it to an AI that can skip steps and it scales the disaster and improvises new ones. AI didn't create that problem, but it made it impossible to ignore. Same reason J-M Erlendson's idea of vibe coding a faster parallel process makes me nervous. Do that on top of a process nobody understands, and you've rebuilt the confusion at speed. And Volker nailed it. Live the processes. Rarely have I seen a process map that matches 100% of what the floor actually does. The one that matters is the one people actually run, not the one in the big fat folder.
