About ThePricer

Independent price reporting you can verify.

ThePricer is an independent U.S.-based publication focused on what products, services, projects, medical care, public programs and major events really cost.

Our reporting draws on official pricing, public records, contracts, published rate sheets, vendor and provider quotes, market examples, reputable reporting and clearly identified calculations. We cite the evidence supporting key figures and update older guides as better or more current information becomes available.

ThePricer is funded through display advertising. Advertising does not assign, edit or influence our reporting, and we do not publish paid placements, sponsored reviews, affiliate content or sold links.

What We Do

ThePricer publishes price guides and cost investigations across consumer goods, home projects, healthcare, automotive services, travel, food, pets, education, technology, defense, public spending and other subjects where readers need a realistic financial answer.

Our goal is not simply to repeat a headline number. We try to show what is included, what can increase the bill, how prices vary, which figures are verified or estimated, and where uncertainty remains.

Real price ranges
We report realistic low, common and high costs when the available evidence supports a range.
Full cost picture
Fees, add-ons, regional variation, financing, insurance and indirect costs are included when relevant.
Visible evidence
Readers should be able to inspect the sources, assumptions and calculations behind important figures.
Practical context
We explain what changes the price and where readers may be able to reduce the total without sacrificing what they need.

How Our Reporting Works

The exact research process depends on the subject and the quality of available evidence. A local service price may require provider quotes and regional comparisons. A public-spending investigation may rely on procurement documents, contracts, agency records and comparable projects. A medical-cost article may distinguish provider charges, cash prices, insured out-of-pocket costs and published national data.

  1. 1. Define the price question. We identify the exact product, service, unit, package, location or scenario being priced.
  2. 2. Gather the strongest available evidence. This can include official documents, public records, rate sheets, retailer and provider pricing, quotes, invoices, contracts and reputable market sources.
  3. 3. Cross-check the figures. We compare multiple sources when feasible, investigate major discrepancies and avoid presenting obvious outliers as typical prices.
  4. 4. Build the usable answer. We show the main range, relevant units, assumptions, exclusions and the factors most likely to change the final bill.
  5. 5. Review, publish and update.Editorial review covers sourcing, calculations, clarity and compliance with ThePricer’s methodology. Material corrections and updates are handled through our public policies.

For the complete evidence hierarchy, price-range methodology and quality-control process, see How We Research Prices.

Editorial Independence

ThePricer’s editorial decisions are separate from advertising. Coverage cannot be purchased, and outside companies do not receive approval rights over our reporting.

  • No paid editorial placements: We do not publish sponsored posts, paid reviews, link insertions or affiliate content.
  • No advertiser control: Advertisers do not assign topics, review drafts or influence conclusions.
  • No sold links: External links are included to support reporting and help readers verify information.
  • Conflicts must be disclosed: Editors, contributors and reviewers are expected to identify relevant conflicts and step away when necessary.
  • Corrections are public: Readers can submit evidence, and material factual corrections are handled under our published corrections policy.

Our History and Mission

ThePricer was founded in 2011, originally as TheHowMuchBlog, to make price research easier to understand and verify. The site grew from everyday consumer questions into a broader cost-research publication covering household spending, professional services, healthcare, technology, infrastructure, public programs and prices connected to major news events.

Our mission remains simple: give readers a defensible answer to what something costs, show how that answer was constructed, and explain what could make the real total higher or lower.

We also sometimes translate a price into working time through our Money-to-Time approach, helping readers understand what a purchase represents in hours of labor.

Corrections and Reader Feedback

Prices change, public records are revised, businesses alter their fees and mistakes can happen. Readers who find an outdated figure or factual error can send supporting evidence such as an official price page, rate sheet, invoice with personal information removed or a public document.

Substantive corrections are reviewed and handled under our Corrections Policy. General article dates and update information are displayed on the relevant page.
