Drop Me A Line!

About

Born in the '80s.  Child of the '90s.

Hi, I'm Jeff!

I grew up in the suburbs north of New York City in the '80s and '90s, when Saturday mornings meant cartoons and "going online" wasn't a thing yet.  I was born in the mid-'80s, so on paper I'm a Millennial.  Really, though, I'm an Xennial: part of that small group between Gen X and the Millennials who grew up mostly offline and came of age just as the digital world took over.  We saw a lot change, so it's no wonder so many of us love looking back on the "good old days."

Around the turn of the century I went to college on Long Island.  That's where I met my beautiful and brilliant wife (I was peeking over her shoulder for "help" during a test), and I pretty much never left "the island"... until a few years ago, when we moved north for more space and a chance to live up to our state's motto about freedom.  These days the best part of life is watching our child grow up and make the kind of memories I still treasure.  It's great having someone new to tell my "old" stories to!

How YesterYear Retro started

I read nostalgia blogs for years before I wrote for one.  In 2019 I entered an essay contest on The Retro Network with a piece about 1990's Dick Tracy toys, and I won.  I had so much fun writing it that I kept going, and YesterYear Retro was born on October 9, 2019.

Some of my articles also run on The Retro Network, but most of my work lives right here.  YesterYear has been mentioned in Sports Illustrated, BuzzFeed, Yahoo Lifestyle, SitcomsOnline and more.  A major TV network even borrowed from my work once, without giving credit!

What you'll find here

YesterYear is my tribute to the people, places and things that made growing up so memorable.  Each post mixes my own memories with some old-fashioned "book report" research.  My goal is simple: to bring back those "I totally forgot about that!" moments.  Nothing beats getting an email from a reader who rediscovered a long-lost memory because of something I wrote.

Pull up a beanbag chair and enjoy the trip down memory lane!

The fine print

I don't get paid by anything I write about.  If a post is ever sponsored, I'll say so clearly and still give you my honest opinion.  For advertising or sponsorships, CLICK HERE.
