Athletic strength is more than just the weight on the barbell. We need to see strength training in; - lifting weights - throwing med balls - jumping / landing - sprinting - agility / change of direction - collision - isometrics Expand your perspective, help your athletes.

Coach’s will continue to wake up to this idea. There is a need for heavier weights in many cases, but there’s even more who need better eccentric strength qualities.

We should be more concerned about how we progress exposure to GRF’s & overload eccentric qualities than the amount of weight that we can add to a bar Strength coaches bout to unfollow for sure

PSA: A plyometric isnt always the "most intense" Yes, a DJ can be very intense. It's a great tool for potentiating with a rapid eccentric action. Attentuating plyos (or "myos"?) can also be very intense and better serve braking actions. Select on why, then build intensity.

PSA: the SSC continuum is not a progression. BW drops are NOT the start & box drop plyos the finish. You can do extensive Shocks & Springs. Both potentiating & attenuating can be low level or intense. Your early extensive phase should have both, not just slow landings. 1/3 🧵

REMINDER: “Fundamentally you’re coaching people” Seems some have forgotten and think they are coaching data, machines or theoretical situations. It’s always about the people!

Brian Ashton's Philosophy👇 🗣"As a coach you’re coaching people that happen to have a talent for playing rugby. Fundamentally you’re coaching people. You’ve got to take care of the technical/physical side. And the emotional & mental state of players.”
